Why Birmingham?

Because Rudy Washington wanted the game there.

Because the league peddled itself to several other cities when New Orleans told us "get the hell on" after the contract expired with them in 1999.

When all those other cities told us virtually the same thing, Birmingham came to the rescue and welcomed the league with open arms.

Perhaps when this current contract expires, some of these folks that told us "helllllll naw," will reconsider. If not, I guess we'll be back in Birmingham, or in the basement of somebody's crib.

Of course New Orleans is going to tell the SWAC no. Its the same week as the Louisiana State High School Football Championships. I am quite sure that is the same as Texas and Mississippi. That's why it needs to be earlier.

How much earlier do you suggest? We couldn't play it in Atlanta a week earlier, because the SEC championship game is there. It couldn't be much earlier in any of these other locales you mentioned either. The Big 12 plays its games in many of those southwestern cities on the same weekend. As I posted, when the contract for Legion Field runs out (which I think might be next year,) let's just see how many of these other cities are willing to accomodate us. It's going to be a rude awakening for a lot of folks on the SP.

AAMU Alum I think you hit it on the nose. Due to the questionable weather the game & fans have had to endure it would be great if it could be played in an indoor facility.

Why play in Atlanta when no SWAC schools are in Atlanta. Play in Jackson, Houston, New Orleans, hell even Little Rock and Shreveport. The First week on December is a good week. Or make GSU and SU move the Bayou classic up a week and make it Thanksgiving weekend.

There are no SWAC schools in Memphis either, but folks have suggested playing the SCG game there. Hell, some even suggested that the HQ should be there after NO kick our @sses out!! And as far as the Bayou Classic issue goes, I have to ask again...where have YOU been?

Having the game 2 weeks after the BC is not all that bad. If one of those teams were to represent, you wouldn't want those fans to have to choose between the BC and the SCG because the SCG will lose. Give people time to plan for the most efficient way to get to the SCG, in other words 14 days.

You have Dallas, Shreveport, Houston, Little Rock, and New Orleans as places in the west to choose from.

I would say Dallas or Houston because there are more things to do in those cities. Plus, they have bigger aiports, which will make flight arrangements cheaper.

Mississippi High School Championship games were held the week prior to the SCG.

Then that would coincide with the Alcorn/Jackson State's game.

That's not going to work either.

Why not play the game in the home stadium of the school with the best overall record?

Moving it around to other cities involves much more than folks think. If you don?t have the community support in the form of an Alabama Sports Foundation (or a local convention and visitor?s bureau), it will be very difficult to stage an event of that magnitude. It not only takes money, but it takes bodies to physically handle the operations (hotels, receptions, banquets, etc.),

You have to know upfront if that city would have enough volunteers to assist and also know if their stadium operations folks are competent enough to handle game-day operations.

And when operating an even away from your home base, there are other factors to consider such as costs to house and feed the folks who travel to that site to work that event. You literally have to set up shop in that city and you?ll working out of a make-shift office for AT LEAST four days. It can get very expensive. And a lot of cities aren't willing to put forth a lot of effort unless they are REALLY getting a lot out of it.

Just some food for thought.

It doesn't matter if the BC and the JSU-Alcorn game are the same weekend.

As for the best record to be the home team, it would work, because of promotions, flight arrangements, and hotel accommodations. Then what happens if there is a tie for the best record?

New Orleans is out of the question due the high school state champs being played on the same w/end. Again, why not Jackson or Little Rock or Shreveport. Jackson and Little Rock is the most centrally located areas. Shreveport's I-Stadium is not being used the week of the SWAC champ.

Question, what activities were there to do around B-ham after the game?

Little Rock has high school championship that weekend also. Little Rock would be cool if the SWAC can get a basketball game there too because they could have the game at the Altell Arena, maybe have them play UALR that night.

Do either Jackson, Little Rock or Shreveport have domed stadiums? If not, what will be the difference in playing outside in Alabama, as opposed to MS, LA or AR?

What activities would there be in either of the three aformentioned cities? Just curious.

This bears worth repeating.

To show how much Birmingham was committed to the SWAC, they MOVED the state football championship games scheduled for Saturday to the Hoover Met... a 13,000 seat stadium.

Sperm why do you need 14 days to plan... you have a whole year to plan... seems like you are plannin off of who is playing in the championship game. Like I said earlier.... DONT GO ..... DONT COMPLAIN.

No!

The only indoor option is Houston. If the game is outside, I can not see the game being moved with the next to nothing fee B-ham gives the SWAC. I do not like the ride to B-ham (loved it when I was ATL), but you can not fight old good economics.

WE are stuck in Birmingham because it was free. But free ain't always better. Sometimes you get what you pay for, and thier is a reason something is free. No one will pay to play in Legion Field or to come to Birmingham, that why they kissed our arse to get us to come.

New Orleans wasn't tryin to hear all that poor mouthin, because they know what they are worth (or at least thing they do). I think that at worst case, move the game to Jackson. More folks would even come to Jackson, but idealy, New ORleans or HOuston. But we won't get New Orleans for free, and New Orleans ain't gonna kiss our behinds to come. That would be an investment.
