Why are there fewer American-born blacks playing pro baseball?

We all tend to like different sports, and frequently find the one where our talents work the best for us. There are plenty of black soccer players internationally and a couple on the US national team like Marcus Beasley who are wonderful. Those who play in Europe make NBA type salaries and have even more glamor, I'm not sure how long they last compared to NBA, but I would guess not as long since soccer is a contact sport.

Somehow that acceptance in Europe has to be transfered to the U.S. I don't think that is the case yet. I just got through watching MLS soccer, the allstars verses Mexico (?). The crowd was not too impressive, but I could see it becoming an MTV phenom and the media picking up on it and turning it into the next sports rage,,, especially if black athletes continue to bring black eyes to football and basketball where the media has a FIELD DAY spoofing us (and in many cases, rightly so) as baphoons, rapists, dope heads, irresponsible _uck-like-rabbit offspring producers and generally consumate morons and spoiled money grubbing/blowing malcontents and premadonnas.

MLS crowds are groing fairly fast now that they aren't trying to get their games on TV by playing at weird times. The USA team which has done so very well internationally has a real thing with Mexico, it's hard to find a place where they have a home field advantage, which makes our player pi... upset.

Why would a kid play baseball, where he MIGHT make the majors in 15 years, when he could play hoops or football and make the league in 5? The odds of making the big league roster in baseball are probably better, but it's a longer road, and we, especially Black folks, live in a microwave society.

Regarding soccer, when I lived in Dallas, I went to several Dallas Burn games. The games were in the Cotton Bowl, and they averaged about 15K per game. Many of those fans were Mexicans from the nearby neighborhoods. Now the Burn are playing in Westlake for a season before moving to Frisco. Basically, that's the burbs, and they are FAR from any Black or Brown neighborhoods. There goes the local exposure. Already this season, Burn attendance is WAY down.

I myself play rugby. There aren't that many of us playing rugby, but a few clubs across the country have been proactive in starting innercity youth programs. Most of the high school programs right now are in your suburban and private schools, but there is SO much talent that gets wasted that it's only a matter of time before USA Rugby steps in to encourage more inner city programs, if we want to be serious on the international scene.
