Excellent at writing and average at best on public speaking.

Average at best for both. Thank god for spell-check. lol

I love to speak in public. I love being in control. :emlaugh: Speech class in school was one of my favorite classes. I can give a impromptu speech real good.

Please don't rely on spell check. It doesn't always pick up all the errors. You can have words spelled correctly but wrong meaning, such as when/win, by/buy/bye, etc.

Well Cee, we knew which one you were better at before you even posted...:emlaugh:

I'm better at writing/spelling...absolutely HATE public speaking, but do well at it when I have to do it...I used to mentor high school students, so that helped me increase my public speaking skills quite a bit.

Re: Which one are you stronger at, Speaking in public or Spelling when writing someth

I struggle with speaking in general due to a speech impediment. So I'm hesitant to give public speeches. I would rather write than talk.

:emlaugh: I knew not to even mention grammar. If they ever get rid of spell check I am done. :lmao:

Gets me all the time, but I am sure you know that already. :shame: :emlaugh:

It used to be spelling by far. However, I've been noticing my writing and spelling skills diminish lately while my speaking skills continue to improve. I worked on speaking for years in my sales career and when mentoring kids. I was a member of Toastmaster's for a while. Now that I teach, getting up to speak in front of people is surprisingly easy to me. I'll say that I'm pretty good at both, but not great.

Better at written communications, but good at speaking in public also.

Both. One thing I cannot do is speak in front of people with a pre-written speech. I have an outline.

Re: Which one are you stronger at, Speaking in public or Spelling when writing someth

I've always been impressed with the public speaking skills of Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, Michelle Obama, John Peoples, Gayle King and Hilliary Clinton.

I think I'm better at writing when using spell check, speaking in public just isn't my cup of tea.

Oh I know. MS Word 07 is good for correcting subject/verb agreement. Outlook is good for spell check and subject/verb agreement also.

Same here.

I don't like being in front of groups, so I don't like public speaking. Writing comes so much more naturally to me........I express and convey better in writing. I absolutely love it.

Due to a previous life, I learned to be good at both!!!

Re: Which one are you stronger at, Speaking in public or Spelling when writing someth

I'm pretty good at both. Then again, I was a member of Toastmasters International. So that had a big hand in both.

Hey Ken, I don't know what your impediment is, but I used to be a fast talker, literally. The pace of my speech was so rapid, folks thought I was nervous. Northerners said I talked so fast they couldn't understand me and Southerners blamed it on me being from the North. But after taking a couple of speech classes at AAMU and then having to do other speaking engagements. I learned to be more cognizant and speak at a slower pace, even in smaller settings. My rapid speaking was a result of wanting to get all my ideas and words out, because I learned at a young age, most people never really listen to others when they talk, and some just liked hearing themselves talk. So to combat that, I spoke fast. Now I don't care, if you hear me you do, and if you don't you don't. The listener is the one missing out.

So if you speak rapidly or even if you stutter, just take a breath and take your time saying what you have to say.
