Where's the buzz over UConn women's winning streak?

It's easy to look at a stat sheet and boast about women ballets shooting better. Then you watch their games and see they get a lot of easy layups. I have accepted as a rule that women can't play defense. Too many easy buckets and uncontested shots compared to men.

It is a great accomplishment, but I have to disagree with the assertion that men's team would be all over the place with an accomplishment. I can remember a few years ago when Florida won their first Men's basketball championship. It wasn't big news because they weren't UCLA or Duke, and some people thought it was a fluke for them to win it. So Florida came back the very next year and won the title again. Was it the main headline for CBS and ESPN? No, it took a back seat to freshman Greg Oden having 26 points and 10 rebounds in a losing effort. I was very mad at how little respect the team got from winning back-to-back titles in the NCAA at a football school. The whole CBS broadcast, they were fawning all over Ohio State's Greg Oden instead of covering this great accomplishment. I could help but think if it were UCLA, Duke, or UNC how much coverage it would have gotten.

When I did watch women's basketball, I used to just watch their titties bounce as they ran up and down the court. Didn't pay attention to the game. Just watched the titties bounce. :(

Now I know this knukka ain't say he watched womens BB for titties! You watching the wrong women's sport! I can see tennis or volleyball, but BB??? Oh well, probably just as many women on the bench watching the same thing you are!!!

:smh:

Not even the historic breasts of Maya Moore and her UConn teammates could get the American public to watch the Lady Huskies win 89.

The game that gave the Huskies their 89th-straight win, surpassing John Wooden and UCLA’s Division I basketball record 88-game win streak, earned a 0.9 rating nationally.

ESPN drew a 1.8 nationally for the Northern Illinois-Fresno State Humanitarian Bowl Saturday night.

I don't think that it matters if 10 people watched the game on TV, the fact that this man has JUNIORS on his team that hasn't lost a game is VERY IMPRESSIVE. It would matter what sport it was, if you have JUNIORS who haven't lost, it is impressive in ANY SPORT. Secondly, it is even more impressive because in a sport like women college basketball, teams HAVE TO seek out the best each year to play. UCONN streak includes wins over the who's-who in the game, including two national titles.

If a SWAC football team went undefeated for two seasons, I guess one couldn't get mad when its said that "It's SWAC football, who cares about SWAC football. NOT IMPRESSIVE"!

Geno has a good chance at the #1 player in the 2012 class out of Texas.

I think the percentage of people watching the game does matter since this thread is examining the attention (or lack there of) the streak was getting.

It says a lot about the interests in women's college sports when more people would rather watch a dog MAC-WAC bowl battle played in Boise, Idaho than a so-called historical athletic event that ESPN had been hyping for the last few months.

While the TV ratings don't take anything away from UConn winning 89 straight games, it goes a long way in determining the value of the streak. .

And if a SWAC school went unbeaten two years in a row, the vast majority of the American sports public would care less about it than the UConn women topping the UCLA win streak.

That doesn't mean either streak would not be impressive. It would mean that those accomplishments just don't peak the interest of most.
