What were you doing 10 years ago today when that historic moment occurred?

When Prairie View A&M University broke it's 80-game losing streak vs Langston University 14-12?

It was exactly 10 years ago today when the historic moment occurred. :) It's amazing to see how far we've come while still viewing how far we need to go. Panthers should never ever forget. :read:

Article follows: (kinfolk (KJ) was wrong for the pic though lol)

The longest losing streak in college football history didn't scare Greg Johnson. He knew one win was all it would take to make history.

He left his home state, where he had started to find success, with the goal of making a winner out of the least successful program of the time. When he signed on at Prairie View A&M, the Panthers' streak had already stretched to an NCAA-record 68 straight losses.

Is there anyone on this board in school at pv during that time?
Maybe they can tell what it was like.

Man MH that's my kinfolk man. lol I guess he was overcome w/ emotion. Hell, I damned near cried when sportscenter broke through a game and showed what was occurring live. :emlaugh: There were 2 JState grads in the gameroom and we were watching some game and they gave me a hard time about it. lol Look how the mighty have fallen :read: and look how the cellar dweller has risen from the ashes. :read:

It's hard to believe that it's been 10 years already. Records falling left and right. That October 4th one - 22 year deal is the one I'm most certainly looking forward to. :read:

Don't quote me too much J94 lol but I heard the students on campus went to Blackshear and tore down the goalposts on one end and paraded all around campus w/ it. And, (if memory serves correct), the following Monday was a day of celebratory w/ a pep-rally in the baby-dome.

Number 62 kind of look like Bruce Eugene after the Bayou Classic.

panthro,
There used to be an article that went along with the same pic. The article talked about that, the goal posts, the students going to the presidents house, the prez wife in her night gown, etc.

By the time school president Charles Hines got wind of the victory, joyous students at this country college had deposited a goalpost from the nearby football stadium on his otherwise manicured front lawn.

His wife Veronica joined students in their cheer, "Who're you rooting for? P-V-U!"

Hundreds of students braved ravenous mosquitoes to celebrate outside the school's basketball gym in the hours after the win, though their numbers dwindled as the night wore on.

I know what I was doing...
and who I was doing it to...
And get this...
She went to PV...:ebrow:
Coincidence?? I guess it was. :pimp:

Oh...this the sports board...my bad.

We just beat ASU 34-27 in BR.

It seems like that sooo long ago
That pic just does something to me...its got to be one of the funniest of all time
Truth be told, PV is not much better now than they were them. YOu are just no longer the worst team in the country. There are at least 3 teams worser than yall now.

I was in school in the band at that time. This game was 1 week after the SU game in Beaumont. The band was serving the first week of their suspension for the fight, so most of the band was at Rice Stadium taking in the TxSU-Howard game. When they first announced the score, the game was still in progress, and a HUGE cheer went up from the section beside the TxSU band. They announced the final, and folks started heading out heading back to the yard.

By the time I got to the campus, the celebration was in full gear. Seems like the entire street in front of the Baby Dome was blocked off by people celebrating and swatting dime-sized mosquitoes at the same time. There was indeed a set of goalposts deposited in the front yard of President Hines' front yard.

BTW, GR.....If we ain't that much better than we were then, JennySUe must be one of the 3 teams worser than us at the present...:)

I was gathering myself for my emotional retirement speech. I said that I was not going to cry like some of the others when they retired.

Work. I jumped for joy because I did not want PV to break the losing streak on us (Valley). What was the first SWAC game that PV won? Everybody say that it was Valley but I thought it was Alcorn.

Hell, I forgot! :emlaugh: I think it was Alcorn. 27-0 if memory serves correct. Alcorn went 0-11 that year if memory serves correct.

It was Alcorn. It was a sloppy, rainy day, and both bands were there, but neither performed. That was 1999.

me too frat...i was dating a chick from pv the night pv won......oh we need to head to the barbershop cause she broke me off nice all night:pimp:

#62 was my roomate for a short time after I went back to PV.

On that day I was back in Port Arthur checking out my rival high school's game. The event was such a huge deal that they announced it at the game in this fashion...

"Ladies and gentlemen..........Prairie View A&M University tonight.....has ended its 80 game losing streak!"

At that point I jumped clean off the bleachers. I was actually used as footage when the PV story came up on the 10 o'clock news that night...on all the stations I believe.

Mind you the school who's game I was attending really had no ties with PV. I have never forgotten that moment.

Hell, I forgot! :emlaugh: I think it was Alcorn. 27-0 if memory serves correct. Alcorn went 0-11 that year if memory serves correct.

I remember this game as well. After it rained and Prof would not let us battle Alcorn's band in the Baby Dome I was pissed. So I went back to the Village with a bottle of Southern Comfort (100 proof). About a half bottle latter I heard them win the game over the radio. I ran out on to the balcony and hollered WE WON THE GAAAAAAAAAMMMMEEEEE!!!!!! Somebody hollered back and said what was the score. I don't believe 27-0 was the score I hollered back however. :swink:

Y'all were some "strange" students back then. :emlaugh: Festive, fun-loving, perfectionists :read:, focused, full of spirit/pride, etc... nothing like... let me stop. :smh:

We start winning again and... :smh:

I'll stop the rant. :|

DCG, the 80-game losing streak ended 10 yrs ago. The following year, we ended the drought of losing to I-AAers. :) Alcorn was the victim. Yep, it was raining, no band performances - they were in the baby-dome, if memory serves correct.

:retard:

Ok either it was 10 years ago or 9 which is it. Make up your minds.(old lying azzez men)

Hursh your mouth, girl!!! :D These folks KNOW what they are talking about. PV's first win was against Langston University in '98.

They won their first SWAC game in 2000 when they beat Alcorn. They beat Langston in '98 to officially end the losing streak. When they beat Alcorn in 2000, they ended their SWAC losing streak.

BTW, don't have a fit about that "hursh girl" comment. It's all love sweetheart.

Panthro yall beat Alcorn in 2000. That was the year we went 0-11. It wasn't in '99.
