What "some other" folks are saying about JSU stadium plans.......

The only problem here Vashon is if you decline an offer of 35-40K, you may end up with a lot less. If they decide next year to put the UMC offer on the table again and they inform you that you will get your own stadium that seats only 25K since your attendance averages 22k and tell you to take it or play all road games what kind of problems will that cause. At least if you build a 35K stadium and sell it out 5 times a year, you still bring in $770,000 at $22/ticket, you also get your own parking, and can negotiate your terms with vendors, and you bring revenues back to west jackson. You will make the $$$ to expand in 5 years and add 15,000 seats if you want to give you
50-55K seats.

You said it. That's why I find it very WEIRD that Memorial Stadium's attendance counts always appear to be less than the eye can see when JSU plays but when Alcorn is the home team in the CCC, the attendance count is on point. :emlaugh:

How did alcorn pay 25 mill for their facility in 92 and UT Chatt spent 28.5 Mill in 1997 and got a better facility?
Read Story. We need at least 35 K

Some possible options for JSU

NOBODY HERE CARES WHAT UAPB HAVE.

Lay out the business model that allowed UAPB to raise all them millions in a short period of time to build all them facilities.
Cause I have not seen 1 UAPB poster co-sign that lie.

If nobody cares, then why lay out an business model to show you how it was done. That was a dumb statement.

JSU should foot bill for own arena

So, Jackson State University wants its own on-campus stadium ("JSU officials lobbying for stadium on campus," Nov. 29)?

Well, JSU alumni and students should be prepared to open their checkbooks and foot the bill, rather than the citizens of Mississippi!

Veterans Memorial Stadium has just dumped a huge amount of money to improve facilities. What a huge waste of money it would be to change directions now and build a new stadium!

It appears that many leaders in Jackson feel it is a "right" for JSU to have an on-campus stadium of at least 50,000. Why? According to recent statistics, JSU's home attendance continues to fall and 50,000 seats can't even be filled!

In Hattiesburg, the University of Southern Mississippi is undergoing a building boom of athletic facilities. They are expanding their baseball stadium and adding skyboxes and upgrading their football stadium as well, all through private funds.

JSU should be required to do the same and raise the funds internally instead of waiting on another handout from taxpayers.

Legislators to push for state?s own burn center

Two state representatives will push legislation to establish a burn center in Mississippi after a fire Tuesday in Lee County left three small children and two adults fighting for their lives en route to a Georgia hospital two states away.

The state's only burn unit - the Mississippi Firefighters Memorial Burn Center in Greenville - closed its doors last summer over budget and staffing shortfalls after 33 years of operation.

Public Health Committee Chairman Steve Holland and Rep. Willie Bailey both told The Associated Press on Thursday they will introduce legislation this year to establish a burn unit at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

"It is a moral travesty in my opinion that there's not a burn center in the state of Mississippi. How many deaths do you have to roll out, or severe injuries, before you see the reality of that," said Holland, D-Plantersville.

The victims of Tuesday's fire were transported on three separate flights more than 400 miles to Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga., hospital spokeswoman Beth Frits said.

When the Mississippi burn center closed, agreements were made with units in surrounding states, and patients are accepted based on bed availability.

Frits said Thursday that Sinias Grice and Lanazia Hunt, both 2, Natetreuna Hunt, 3, and Carlitha Grice, 26, all were listed as critical but stable. She said Sophia Hunt, 25, was in serious but stable condition.

Calls reporting the fire came in just after 11 a.m. Tuesday, but it was nearly 12 hours later before the last of the patients had arrived at the Georgia hospital, officials said.

"I can't say enough good about the burn center in Georgia," said Lee County Fire Investigator Ed Fugitt. "But our people have to travel a great distance across two states when time is of the essence. And it's such a specialized treatment that we have a definite need for the burn center in Mississippi."

BECAUSE YOU POSTED THAT LIE.
Now not wanting to back it up is ........................WELL............................DUMB!! :goof:

Nobody asked for it.:whatever:
Now back up YOUR words.:whatever:

Diverting your our statements mow.
You ain't getting off that easy.

And BTW: I still ain't seen nobody else from UAPB co-sign that crap as the truth.

It's not in JSU's way....................This is just another example of how BAD UMC and the Hospital complex need that land.
The more pressure UMC put's on the ledgislature for facilities, the better the chance that land will be aquired for UMC's expansion.
That place would generate millions and millions in tax money for this city and region.

There is only 1 place in that area left for them to build.

That 1,000,000 ton concrete roadblock is beginning to look more and more like the WHITE Elephant it is as for developing that area.

Not to mention all the complaints from emergency crews trying to get to the hospitals on game day because of the traffic.

Stagg, you are on it and understand exactly what will happen in January. This is extra fuel to an already out of control fire. How can people on this board not see these things unfolding as we speak?

Question is, why continue to explain it.

We here in MS know the deal.

I like the SWACPAGE torture LS.........................
It's just a few, but some people act like they are mad because JSU is actually DOING what people at HBCU's have been just talking and byotching about for years. :

And that is ........................Expanding our campus in a major way with facilities and new programs for students, cleaning up the surrounding neighborhoods and rebuilding them, putting up A1 sport's facilities, and building places for the student's THEMSELVES................The new $15 million Campus Union, Dorms, Off-campus apartments, and the expansion of the Plaza into a walking "park" in the middle of campus.

This is just the beginning. Blackburn is getting a new school because of the bond we as taxpayers approved. What does this mean for JSU? JSU gets the land that Blackburn currently sits on and there is no telling what they'll put there. I've heard talk about a proposed Law School.

And what about that on-campus apartment complex they built where the cafeteria and campus police used to be. I was walking through that Plaza just prior to the season starting to buy some paraphenalia out of the bookstore. Just walking with my head down and looked up at what I thought would be the cafeteria and saw this big azz building. I'm like WTF!!! Had no clue we were doing it like that. I'm jealous of the students at JSU today. Dixon Hall actually has "DIXON HALL" out front. While I was there it was "XON HALL".

We doing the damn thang and this stadium will only make it that much better.

You're right, they'll see come January.

Even if the only thing that comes out of the January sesson is money for "paper work" on this, the Ledgislature can not close their eye's to UMC's problems anymore.

They have put this off as long as they can and now JSU and UMC is calling them on this situation TOGETHER.
In the past, UMC had project's to finish and land to build on. The childrens hospital took what land they had left. St. Dominic's has build on all the land they have in the area now that the north side of Lakeland Drive has been finished across the street from the main Building in that complex.
Veterans sit in the middle of the two. They have NO LAND.
The only other land UMC have is where the dorms sit for their Medical and Dental school student's and families live.
You know they ain't gonna kick them out.

Now along with the Medical Research Center, UMC is pushing for a BURN CENTER located over there.
There is no other place and with the law's in place on where hospitals can be built to serve "X AREA", there is no other place they can build it in the Metro Area.

Remember the fight St. Dominic's had with CCC when they wanted to continue to build that hospital in North East Jackson on Ridgeway near County Line Road?...................St. Dominic's caused that deal to go down the tubes.

That say's it all.

Its looking good for UMC and JSU. Dayum, I can't believe that Ole Miss and JSU are working together.

Blackburn definitely needs a new school...

Yep, and JSU gets all that land that Blackburn currently sits on. I'm just trying to figure out where they'll put the new Blackburn. The only location I could think of is where the Tin Man operates.

Man...........You Jealous................I damm near cry.:bawling:
When we was there, those apartment's was the spot where KKPSI hung out on that hill under the tree.

Wasn't nothing there but people with them 1/2 gallons of draft beer.
I'm happy for the "New Tiger Generation" though.

BTW: On that WTF tip, I did that when I went up there and saw the building that Mass Cumminications have in the parking lot by the Band Hall.
I looked up at the top and saw a dome.

I'm like.......................WHEN THE HE!! DID JSU GET A TELESCOPE.
