JSU don't let these folks stop you. Man when AAMU first announced it was going to build our stadium them ofays came out the closet the same way. We still built Crews so screw them. We caught slack all over this state for wanting our own stadium. Ask MD I'm sure his was fighting in the trenches for us.

CEE......................These people mean NaDa.

On the real....................They funny as hell.
'Specially Sperm..........................This dude act like he will be executed if this go through at any point.

Point is JSU wants a new stadium because all the other schools in MS got their stadium funded by the state, right? Oh, JSU also needs a stadium on campus.

No Sperm, you are missing the point and also, you don't know enough about this to understand why this is going to happen. The white folks are backed into a corner on this, not us.

Also, we had an on-campus stadium like everyone else...its was ancient and time for remodeling but that is not why we don't have one. In the 70's the area around the JSU campus was booming and JSU was growing into the great HBCU that we are today. We had no room to expand and build our science building so the state made the agreement with us to play in Memorial (for which they had plans to build) so we would have a place to put our science building. Now whether they used money that would have gone into building building JSU a new stadium (which I also heard rumors of) but that is why we don't have one...academics over athletics.

Whatever dude......................Your opinion is highly sought after by the people in charge here.

BTW: I still wanna know how UAPB figured out what no other HBCU has been able to do.

Get you alumni and business to donate over $20 plus million to build your 1-AA facilities.
That's what you need to lay out here in detail....................Every school in the SWAC could use that business model.

Until then.....................Bump your gums and I will continue to laugh.:lmao:

Guys, why are you entertaining these naysayer?s about the reality of JSU getting an on campus stadium? Here are few facts that may shine a little light on the discussion, 1) These arguments have been and are being discussed currently in the House sub-committees in both the Finance and Appropriations and have garnered support from ranking members and will be supported in February when these measures are presented to the committees and subsequently to full body for consideration. The economic impact study that most are not aware of supports the building of the project from both sides i.e... Memorial Land (UMC Expansion) and West Jackson revitalization initiative. So please stop pandering to these nobodies that have no say in the matter anyway.

We just luv punishment I guess.:lmao:

But on the real.....................What you said up there is what everyone THAT LIVES IN MISSISSIPPI and have HOMETOWN KNOWLEDGE of what's going on have said.
You just went into depth with it.

Heck...................I give 2 names from the House that is spearheading these talks...........JUST TO NAME 2.

Reeves...............Republican.............Ole Miss Grad.
Flaggs................Demo....................JSU Grad.

A certain poster won't understand this either.

Again....you are missing the point.
JSU does not want a stadium "just because."
JSU may NEED a new stadium because the state hospital may need the land to complete its growth. It may be more profitable to the State to use the land the stadium is on and then build JSU a new stadium. Thats the issue here.

Now certainly if every other public university had its stadium built using tax dollars, then you would think its fair that JSU gets the same treatment. You do understand that JSU grads pay taxes too. Our taxes were used to build Ole Miss, MSU, Alcorns and on and on. So now that it may be our turn, why would you object tax dollars being used? Dont fall for the okie doke bruh.

Tigerpride, you are the ONLY one who has given a reason WHY the things are why they are now. Read up the thread, and you would THINK that JSU was simply left out, while others got a stadium built. From what you are telling me, there was an AGREEMENT made long time ago. Well, that was 30 years and times have changed and it sounds like its time to REVISIT building JSU a stadium at this time.

Staggalee83, you live in MS and all you do is post your opinion on the SWAC SportsBoard. Do you think the people who give out the money read this board? You are of less help of getting JSU a new stadium than me. So who is really bumping their gums? You can continue to laugh, however my school has Golden Lion Stadium on its bricks, yours has Memorial. :lmao:

TP did give the inital reason and now that is a mute point since there is land to buy around campus thus the campus is growing. The new baseball facilities were moved to the athlectic complex for expantion and the stadium would fit right in there. The only thing that would not be in that area would be the athletics assembly center. That's the next topic after the stadium.

Are you really this dense?
We have another KOFTHEJUNGLE on here.
Diverting like a 747 going around storm turbulance.

The people that give out the money are the one's THAT ARE PUSHING THIS PLAN.
You the one on here, THAT DON'T LIVE HERE, and don't know shat about this place talking like you know everything.:lmao:

And as for that last part...........................That's where you are in fantasy land.
NOBODY HERE CARES WHAT UAPB HAVE.
You invaded this thread like people in Jackson are actually interested in UAPB.

And for the 3rd time Mr. LIE teller:

Lay out the business model that allowed UAPB to raise all them millions in a short period of time to build all them facilities.
Cause I have not seen 1 UAPB poster co-sign that lie.

The reason why this WILL eventually happen is because the land Memorial Stadiam sits on is a helluva lot more valuable than Memorial itself. The $$$ to fund a stadium for JSU is peanuts compared to what the state can make off that prime real estate beside UMC. What's 40 to 50 million when you stand to make many times that?

Memorial is smack in the middle of THE primary hospital complex in the state. This ain't that hard to figure out.

This is what the "NEGATIVE PEOPLE" don't realize.

Former Jackson State head football coach Dr. Roderick Paige (1964-68) coached the first Tiger game in Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in 1967. JSU?s alumni field, an on-campus facility, was torn down that year at the behest of state and local officials and with the understanding that the alumni field would be rebuilt somewhere on campus. The reason given for its dismantling was campus progress. The time lapse between then and now is 38 years, 38 football seasons and autumns, 13,870 days and seven different head coaches. Its mission has changed from a teacher college and a motto of ?You Shall Know the Truth and the Truth Shall Make You Free? to a university with ?An Urban Mission.?

The institution has embraced four presidents, Dr. John A Peoples to current Dr. Ronald Mason -- but no on-campus stadium has been erected to fulfill the declaration of the specified promise by the Mississippi legislature.

?They (legislature) made those improvements to Memorial Stadium to attract Southeastern Conference (SEC) games and the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) for playing intrastate historically white schools. They made the mistake of authorizing them to expand their on-campus stadiums, and by doing that, there was no incentive for those schools playing their games in the Jackson.

Commentary

What is being done now to urge the Mississippi legislature to build a stadium for JSU as promised to its black citizenry should have been given validity and completed 30 years ago. The state has reneged on its promise and/or commitment.

The Mississippi legislature, last year, commissioned Cooke, Douglass, Farr, Lemons, Ltd. to do a Memorial Stadium study. This investigator obtained a copy of that document. The cost of the needed improvements to Memorial Stadium to comply with current college and professional standards is estimated to be $32,464,200.00.

Of particular interest in this investigation was Option 3 of the proposed hypothesis.

Option 3 -- ?An alternative to minor or major alterations and renovations to Mississippi Memorial Stadium is the construction of a new stadium facility on an undetermined site in the Jackson, MS metropolitan area to serve the needs of Jackson State University. The basis for this design is a facility which will initially seat approximately 30,000 spectators, but expand to 50,000 spectators in 10,000 seat increments. This facility would initially require 10,000 parking spaces with ultimate expansion to 17,000 spaces. Site requirements would be in the range of 190 to 210 acres.

?The facility would include a new playing field; stadium lighting; grandstands; press box; public facilities; retail sales facilities; team and office facilities; scoreboard systems and complete site development for Phase 1 construction. The stadium design shown herein for Phase 1 has a total seating capacity of 30,824, including 2,131 club level seats, 384 suite seats (16 suites), 150 press level seats, 585 handicapped and companion seats, plus 27,574 general grandstand seats.

?Total costs for Option 3 are estimated to be $59,532,800, of which $41,620,700 is a stadium construction cost, $12,500,000 is site development costs (exclusive of land and site utilities costs) and $5,412,000 is soft costs. The stadium construction costs translates to a per seat cost of $1,350.?

JSU officials lobbying for stadium on campus

Jackson State University leaders say they are pushing for a preliminary proposal to construct a new football stadium on campus and hope to get the Legislature's OK in January.

The proposal is part of the university's master plan, with the stadium to be located on city property stretching from Terry Road and Gallatin Street to the edge of the Lynch Street campus in west Jackson, said JSU spokesman Anthony Dean.

"We believe it would be an economic boost for the university and the city of Jackson," Dean said Tuesday.

Dean was reluctant to discuss cost, the amount of land needed to be purchased, the future relocation of residents or other details at this point.

"It is still in the planning stages," Dean said.

A preliminary drawing of the proposed stadium is reproduced in the Jacksonian magazine, a publication promoting Jackson State. Some JSU supporters say a 50,000-seat stadium is needed, while others say it should be closer to 40,000 to 45,000 seats.

The institution has embraced four presidents, Dr. John A Peoples to current Dr. Ronald Mason -- but no on-campus stadium has been erected to fulfill the declaration of the specified promise by the Mississippi legislature.

This problem is easily solved if the legislation that promises a new stadium is on the books. Building a new stadium would simply be a matter of enforcing the law.

What was the name of the bill that was passed promising the new stadium? It would be an interesting read not only for members of this message board, but also the people of the state of Mississippi.

I think the 50K seats and 80M dollar numbers are scaring a lot of potential supporters. In reality the stadium would be closer to 35K seats and the cost would be much less than 80M.

they shouldnt build it if you gonna build it that small, jsu is growing and you must have vision when building this thing will 35000 people hold a jsu/southern crowd or a capital city classic, dont build it if its gonna hold less than 55,000:no:

I'm for building a 35k seat stadium with room for growth to 50k. This will increase season tickets sales thereby fueling the demand for growth.

BTW, I was a student at JSC from 67 to 71 and know for certain that Alumni Field was still standing when I left.

I begin every morning reading the Advocate and the Clarionledger and when I read that letter I remember how stupid the views were of some of the people in the south. Like it has already been mentioned, UM, MSU, and USM used state dollars when there stadiums were initially built. I agree that when it comes to stadium expansions, the school itself should foot the bill. If you don't want to build JSU a stadium because the thought of memorial coming down is so hardening...sell them memorial and allow JSU to make all of the $$$$ from there own games and allow them utilize the stadium in any way that they can. (concerts, band battles, high school championships, classics, and perhaps a bowl game for a Div I-A team) Mississippi should have built JSU a stadium long time ago and since UMC will benefit more than JSU will, I believe the votes will be there. Look for JSU to get a 35K seat stadium by 2012.

The only problem here Vashon is if you decline an offer of 35-40K, you may end up with a lot less. If they decide next year to put the UMC offer on the table again and they inform you that you will get your own stadium that seats only 25K since your attendance averages 22k and tell you to take it or play all road games what kind of problems will that cause. At least if you build a 35K stadium and sell it out 5 times a year, you still bring in $770,000 at $22/ticket, you also get your own parking, and can negotiate your terms with vendors, and you bring revenues back to west jackson. You will make the $$$ to expand in 5 years and add 15,000 seats if you want to give you
50-55K seats.
