What Happened To Sandra Bland?

I heard some explicit language coming from her mouth, but that still doesn't explain why she is dead.

From what I hear this is the 3rd time in three years that someone has been found hanging in their cell in the Waller County jail... Ironically all were charged with "assault on an officer" in addition to other charges...

I'm still gathering information from friends but the entire incident is fishy to say the least. She was pulled over literally less than 200 feet from the PV campus.. Smh!

So basically she was pulled over for not using her signal light?????? Get the fuck out of her Texas State Police!!!!

The Sheriff of Lincoln Parish told his officers to not even worry about the small shit. Like moving stops through a stop sign or simple shit like this.

I can't wait for the autopsy to come out.

Keep us posted.

I have heard (very much unconfirmed report) that she was being arrested for a Harris County warrant, which is why she was out of the car. Don't know how it spiraled south from that point, but a witness (the person who shot the video) claims on FB that she got very belligerent, and did indeed assault the officer on the scene.

From everything I have read to date, though, the arrest itself does not appear to be related to the death in the jail 3 days later. The family held a press conference a few hours ago stating that everything they know about Sandy leads them to believe that there is more to her death. But they also concede that they are open to believing that Sandy did, indeed, commit suicide if presented with facts that corroborate that story. Most of all, the family asked for patience to let the investigation happen and not jump to premature conclusions.

That dude really needs to go on record with his account of the arrest IF it is true.

Sandra Bland: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know
Published 3:35 am EDT, July 16, 2015 Updated 12:50 pm EDT, July 16, 2015

The family of an Illinois woman found dead in a Texas jail cell after she was arrested during a traffic stop is raising questions about how she died.

Sandra Bland, 28, was stopped by a Texas state trooper on Friday and found dead at the Waller County, Texas, jail on Monday, the Chicago Tribune reports. Local authorities in Texas say Bland died by suicide, but her family and friends don’t believe that is the case, and suspects that the true cause of her death is being covered up.

Bland was being held on $5,000 bail after a Saturday court appearance. Her friends say they planned to post her bail on Monday.

Here’s what you need to know:

This is a sad situation. I hope the truth comes out. I don't believe she killed herself either. about to start a new job, etc. Please

The agency that regulates county jails across Texas informed the Waller County jail that it was out of compliance with minimum jail standards after investigating the death of an inmate who authorities said committed suicide there earlier this week.

Texas Commission on Jail Standards Executive Director Brandon Wood said his agency found Waller County jail to be non-compliant with the two areas of the state's minimum jail standards - one with staff training and one with observation of inmates.

"Inmates are required to be observed at least once every 60 minutes and the Waller County Jail did not perform that observation as required," he said.

The jail was also not in compliance with minimum standards for training of staff dealing with the supervision of inmates who were mentally disabled or potentially suicidal, he said, explaining that there were "possible indicators" that Bland might have been suicidal.

Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety identified the trooper who initially stopped Bland as Brian Encinia. State records show the 30-year-old peace officer has been with the department for one year and one month, ever since earning his license. He graduated from Texas A&M, and earned his peace officer license in June 2014 after receiving 1511 hours of training from the agency.

"In the preliminary review of the traffic stop that occurred in Prairie View on July 10, 2015, involving Sandra Bland, we have identified violations of the department's procedures regarding traffic stops and the department's courtesy policy," agency officials said in a statement Friday afternoon.

Texas sheriff involved in the death of Sandra Bland fired from previous post for racism

We have now learned that Waller County Sheriff Glenn Smith, who made the first public comments about Bland's in-custody death, was suspended for documented cases of racism when he was chief of police in Hempstead, Texas, in 2007. After serving his suspension, more complaints of racism came in, and Smith was actually fired as chief of police in Hempstead:

There's part of that happening I was alluding to ^^^^^^^^^^^^. smh
