Every November, Grambling State and Southern University meet in New Orleans for the Bayou Classic. It's a showcase of everything that fans find compelling about Division I football: a historic in-state rivalry between two like-minded schools with passionate fan bases, steeped in pomp and tradition, showcased on national television.

But for both schools, and their fellow historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) across the South, the glory of the Bayou Classic is the closest they'll get to the big-time college football we're used to watching every Saturday during the fall.

What is there to resolve??? IMO, SU’s athletics have been in better financial shape than most of Division I schools in Louisiana.

The racial biases.

The article also focused on APR woes and SU in this situation HAS NOT been in better shape than most Division I schools in Louisiana.

You do realize schools are made up of more than just student-athletes. Some schools have come close to being another Morris Brown just to save their athletic program. Now you tell me which schools are robbing Peter (academics) to pay Paul (athletics) because that's not the solution either.

I'll let you look at the ACCUMULATIVE finances of the athletic programs in Louisiana.

GSU is in worse financial shape than SU but has no APR problems...yet in your logic you want to compare SU to other D-I Louisiana schools as a way to look good.

I knew you were going to come back an hour later with a bunch of charts and shit.

Not concerned about all that you posted.

The point of the article was about how HBCUs are collectively struggling in D-I, not which FCS school in Louisiana is in the best financial situation. Now if you believe for one bit that SU is not struggling just like every other HBCU when it comes to the topics in the article then there is definitely something wrong.

Now maybe SU should rob Peter and pay Paul to be the AD and get the compliance office in check to resolve the APR woes.

That's because I'm more worried about SU's total academic program instead of some narrow-minded APR. If one can't keep the doors of their school opened, they don't have to worry about APR. This is the silliest article I've ever read, but some of us continue to fall in those traps set by others worrying about the wrong things. Unlike some schools, I'm glad one of Southern's top ACADEMIC programs (Engineering) continues to thrive even in hard times in Louisiana.

Again, that's not the bases of the article. LOL...

Look man...the article is about HBCU's on the D-I level. Now yes you have point about the issue of not keeping the doors open there would be no APR but again, that's not the point of the article.

SU has severe APR issues. How is SU going to fix that? Should they totally ignore it and worry about keeping the doors open?

SU is currently one of the casualties of that article.

That's not what the article is about.

GSU as a whole is suffering because of state budget cuts, consistent presidential and administrative turnover, and lackluster employees.

Yet, this article is about HBCUs surviving in D-I.

As I stated, the article is silly to me. A waste of time worrying about the wrong things at an ACADEMIC institution.

I can only be critical if the ACADEMIC side has fallen off in order to save its sports. As of now, that is not the case, but I'm pretty sure Grambling people see it the same way. LOL!!!

So su's athletes graduation rate is of no importance? Getting field turf is more important than graduation rates of it's student-athlets?
