Verizon CFO says grandfathered unlimited plans on the way out

It is I...Yes it is...
Verizon Communications CFO Fran Shammo shattered many a hopes and dreams today speaking at the J.P. Morgan Technology, Media and Telecom conference. During his address, Shammo indicated that customers who have been grandfathered in to the unlimited data plan may soon find themselves pushed into tiered territory, with the debut of the carrier's shared data plans. "Everyone will be on data share," Shammo said, clarifying that, "a lot of our 3G base is on unlimited... [and] when they migrate off 3G they will have to go to data share." Obviously, with many customers clinging desperately to their truly unlimited usage in the shift to LTE, such a move would ruffle more than a few feathers.

As disappointing as this is, VZW still has a better overall network for me, so guess I'll be staying. But after AT&T does this, it will be a leveled playing field I know people who want to come back to VZW, but will not because they are grandfathered there. But once they change their data plans for all customers, they are jumping ship.
 
Cell phone companies are like airlines.... once one company does something the rest follow .

And this is why i'm glad the Tmobile/AT&T merger didn't happen. Sprint and Tmobile do at least attempt to act like they give a shit about the customers.

If they gave a damn about their customers they would expand their network. They are the bottom two for a reason. That's why VZW has more customers than both of them combined for a reason. People care about quality... We have 109 million customers with the highest price plans. Even AT&T... Their 4g is a little faster than our 3G... LTE is MUCH faster. We pump money into our network.

BTW this article isn't totally correct we are going to a pooled data system for family share plans... Instead of 30 for each line data will be shared on family share accounts.

Lol.. are you sure thats the reason you have so many customers or is it due to the alltell deal.

Real talk how many customers do you think AllTell had? BTW they could have joined any company they wanted.... they werent bound by a contract after the merger.

AT&T was the largest.. Verizon then purchased alltell and became the largest.

FACT or FICTION? ( ill wait)

FACT... Did u forget about Cingular and AT&T merged? That was much larger than the VZW and Alltell merger. Alltell was the 9th largest cell company.

So what exactly is VZW doing??? I ask as a 10year VZW customer, who's pretty pissed. First they reduce the NE2 credit and then they completely take it away. Lucky for me I am still entitled to a NE2 credit, but it's only $50. Then VZW institutes a $30 upgrade fee. So there goes most of my credit. So I can upgrade my phone, but now I get charged to do so? And now you want to take away my grandfathered unlimited data of which I do not consistently use anyway, but it's nice to know it's there and besides it's better then what the tiered people are paying. This is what really pisses me off, companies have gotten so large, that they no longer value customers anymore. I understand the bottom line is making money, but you don't make money by losing customers.

but what if you arent losing customers? VZW customers were just spoiled... how many other companies had aNE2 credit? Also how many charge an upgrade fee? If you want to keep your unlimited data plan (which 90% of customers dont use over 4gb a month-FACT) DONT upgrade.... or buy a phone at full retail price. You have options. The whole "you dont value customers line" is bullshit. If you knew how many BILLIONS of dollars VZW spends to update, build and maintain the nations best network maybe you would appreciate it more. We spend 3 times more than any other network on network and towers. VZW isnt only making money, we are spending ALOT of money.

Are you sure about that? Yes, VZW has LTE in way more markets than AT&T, but AT&T's LTE seems to be faster than VZW in the markets they are in.

There are way more people on the VZW network than AT&T LTE.. In your larger markets this graph is correct. But we have over 60 devices on LTE (including phones, tablets, aircards and hotspots) .... AT&T doesnt have nearly the amount. Their network wouldnt be able to handle all of the LTE devices we have out.

I have both AT&T and VZW... for ME its nowhere near close (if this is truely LTE thats on the AT&T iphone)

Of course it's not gonna be anywhere close. No iPhone has LTE. The latest iPhone has HSPA+. We both know that true LTE smokes HSPA+ all day everyday.
 
i know know iphone has LTE... but AT&T is marketing the Iphone as a 4g device and its deceiving customers. There is even a 4g icon on the iphone where the signal is.... when Im not in a metro area... it goes to 3g..... its confusing customers.... I have VZW customers arguing with me saying they know the Iphone is a 4g phone because their friends have it and it says 4g.
 
On December 6, 2010 the International Telecommunication Union aka ITU...changed it so that HSPA+ is considered 4G.

Soooo... with this new standard the iphone shows 4G on it instead of H+ as it did before.

Soooo...with that being said.... AT&T offers 4G HSPA+ and 4G LTE

well this HSPA is slower than my Verizon 3g.
