Vaccines for athletes that participate in fall sports?

Is there a plan to provide (the willing) vaccines to the fall athletes? Some schools are making available shots for all their students, any word on what's going on in the SWAC and the other HBCUs?

I'm not privy to everyone's plans, but HBCUs in Atlanta are requiring students to get vaccinated prior to the start of the fall semester.

Clarence McKinney pretty much said athletes would need to be vaccinated to reduce the number of games impacted by COVID.

Private schools (I believe) can make this a requirement. State-supported schools would have to be granted permission from their respective state legislatures.

Yup...my wife's clinic offer them free to anyone. They set up shop on GSU's campus and 7 students....yes 7...got theirs.

People want to say don't get it but you need other vaccinations to start pre-school or nursery school.

Some Republicans and Democrats in Louisiana are pushing a joint effort. Their reasoning....New Orleans is suffering. They are trying to sneak it in a movie legislation bill.

These Republican governors are NOT going to go for mandatory vaccination plan for their respective state! Count MS; AL; TX; SC; NC AR: GA; and MO out. They'll likely leave an option in for religious exemptions and follow the same protocol as previously outlined by the CDC "at best". Whether some people opt in or opt out, I can't truly blame them for taking that stance given the uncertainty behind the origin, transmission and subsequent treatment of the virus as currently explained to the World. To that end, I imagine we'll be hearing about the virus subsiding in certain areas very soon which will cause a momentum shift in the psyche of the American public.

My advice to those who are hesitant over taking the vaccine is to talk to their personal physician if they have concerns over the vaccination. My questions are how long will the current vaccine last and if we will have to receive the shots annually like the flu vaccine. The virus is still circulating but mainly among those under 30. That stat along will probably change a majority of college students and parents minds about the vaccine.

All of the football players at Southern have received the vaccine, I believe. And if I am not mistaken, all SU atletes have been vaccinated. I would support any requirement that all students be vaccinated before returning to school in Fall.

But those are vaccines that are proven and have a FDA approval rating. These covid vaccines do not have a FDA approval rating, they only have a emergency use authorization. It'll take years for them to get a FDA approval. There is a big difference between those vaccines that are required for students to take to go to school vs this vaccine.

Those other vaccines were created in some cases 50+ years ago. We tend to do things a bit better today than then! Once this data from this run with the vaccine is analyzed your permanent use designation will be given. Let’s stop thinking in terms of the 1950’s...
