ULL Message board

Probably so considering that's where my beloved Tau Beta Sigma National BAND sorority and Kappa Kappa Psi national BAND fraternity have its roots.

You can call it lame all you want, but SWAC bands CONTRIBUTE to crowd attendance.

If the band contributes to attendance so much then where were all the people during the last half of the Bell Error? You don't think those die hard Tigers fans wanted to see the band then?

How about the SWAC-MEAC game between Grambling and South Carolina State where around 20,000 people were in attendance? I mean, doesn't Grambling have a good band?

You have to account JSU band was kinda piss-poor during the Bell Error as well.. especially that dayum 04' band...

And no, Grambling does not have a good band..

:retard: they do?!

They clearly want to be more like SU.... Them folks on that board want something done NOW with their band because of SU.. Kinda like how SU did jsu in 99'.. Students begged for changed after what the S did.. and WALLAH..

...oh yea, I saw that slide-in coming...

I guess they wanted to see Bell alot less than they really wanted to see the Boom. Bad football will do that to you.

Trying talking to Bell after games. Boy, if I was not obligated by the student newspaper, I would not have gone to the games either.

You still talking about this?

And hush up, Jared!

Some don't respect the bands neither. Moreso LSU with regards to their rendition of NECK vs SU's.

They don't respect the SWAC.

If someone didn't respect them (Band Director) than they wouldn't be imitating them. they're just to stupid to realize that imitation is the strongest form of flattery.

As far as the band contributing to the attendance of course it does but not as nearly as people who come only to watch the band thinks.

The fact that their is a BOTB every year with two of top schools band and it draws at best 25,000 in a 69,000 sit arena with school out and the city jam pack with with over 6-8 times that amount for the occasion show be clear evidence of that.

But we love our bands and they are a very intricate part of what makes our games special and the envy of the NCAA arena whether some admit it or not.

Half the dome is closed during the battle of the bands. Its always packed to the rafters.

Screw the band. I would rather them be impressed with the football team.
I want BOTH!

I want BOTH too!

Fugg LSU :upset:
We don't need their Respect. They bit off SU's neck just to enhance their game day atmosphere. (Not saying they Needed It, because their games are OVER THE TOP Exciting... but that "swac" touch to their band is just the cherry on top!)

but overall, when our bands perform for the clear people: We tend to Entertain the Majority!

My parents would probably say, "They're LSU. What would one expect?"

Why would they have it open fully when there's only a certain number of tickets that are sold?

Do you actually believe that they would turn down 60k plus watching a BOTB and then the next day have same turnout for a football game?

C'mon naw, lets stop being full of ourselves.

have you or anyone every inquired as to why not? Without an actual memo, policy, etc..are you just assuming as well? ask the powers that be that all arguements will be put to rest with FACT..no assumption..

on a side note what would be the point of putting all those people behind the bands. unlike a game the bands are stationary..so it makes sense to have the existing setup.

In most cases D1-A schools do not visit D1-AA schools. It's too much of a step down for them, whereas Southern shouldn't want to visit a D2 school.

The battle of the bands sells out every year. Where have you been @ Blue lol. Last season I tried to take my lil cousin, when we made it there around 7:30, it was sold out.

Obviously i don't go to the games to watch the bands although I enjoy them.

If 25k is a sellout for it so be it but if anybody thinks that they will get a sellout crowd of adults with only the band performing a 5-6 minute drill you're crazy.

Well just tell us and stop making insinuations. I've been to several BOTB with my girls and if that what's call a sellout than so be it but the fact is you've never seen or heard of a game being cancel and fans say "Well let's just go watch the bands", but you have heard of bands canceling their trip and the game still going on with a capacity crowd.

It's just a simple fact

As for what would be the point of having people behind the bands at a BOTB, the last I looked they bands aren't doing any drills and are in a concert style setting so everything is base solely off of the sound of the bands as far as the fans are concern or did I miss something?

Did you ever ask why HOMECOMING concerts at SU didn't use the full Mini Dome?

Same as concerts in the Superdome....

The performance is performed on the floor... Consumers do not want to purchase tickets to see the back of a marching band nor a Whitney Houston.

On your other note...
I still remember 97 when the band was supposed to go to Florida for the FAMU game....

Ticket sales we down until they started advertising SU band was coming.. then ticket sales picked up and then them summa batches sold our band seats...

It happens brah...

well, im not sure what the first part had to do with my post b/c it clearly not in reference to a band being at a football game or lack that of..so ill skip it.

The bands are seating on temporary stands on the field..the setup is not a concert style/setting. Concert setting would look like this

<img src="http://www.montevallo.edu/music/images/umhbwe.05.jpg" width="260" height="200">

disreguard this white kids  ill find some pictures of su's concert band... *shrugs* i thought it was universal knowledge.

now with that band vs football thing yall have going i'll just continue to laugh at all parties. b/c its as simple as this.. some go to games to watch football..some for bands...some to walk around to be seen.. If the band isnt there how many are there just to be seen & see others. if the football team isnt at the stadium..how many people are their just for the band etc.. the arguement is really sad! Maybe it will end one day & everyone will enjoy the game/band/eye candy and have fun. *steps off soap box

lol sound like some of yall mad that the band get as much love (if not more) that yall's piss poor football teams.

how come the Honda BOTB in the Georgia Dome packs in more ppl than any swac/meac/siaa or whatever foot ballgame?

Well as I said earlier I don't go to watch the band, I go to see a football game and I enjoy being entertain by the band but I'm not one of those that can't get out of my seat becasue it's halftime, so me being verse on what style the seating arrangments isn't really here nor there.

As for as there being an argument as I see it there never really ever was one. Band geeks (some) will contiune to believe that the only reason that the stands are full is because of them (even though they draw no revenue) and football fans will continue to buy tickets and fill the stands to come see if their team will make all the way to the championship.

First of all you're butting into a conversation without knowing the basis of it, secondly if you think having five conferences and a total of 41 schools competing in an event that isn't just a BOTB but a job fair, recruitment fair etc. is the same thing as two shools competing in a sporting event, than clearly trying to explain the difference to you would be like talking to a birther.
