Tyler Perry part II

TP did right to tell Spike to "go straight to hell." Where's Spike's latest work? He need to shut up, too.

If it were not for Spike Lee, there would be no John Singleton, Hudlin Brothers, Ernest Dickerson, Hughes Brothers, F Gary Gray, Rusty Cundeiff, Ice Cube, Malcolm Lee and especially no tyler perry. So he may be in the position to criticize.

Nah, not really. Never OK to tear down another brother, especially in a field/industry where there's so few of our faces.

B.S. Those cats obviously didn't learn from the Spike Lee school of filming and directing.

There's a difference between tearing someone down and telling the truth.

Actually it's an opinion and not truths. Those are Spike's views of TP's work. Not truths. It may be views you AGREE with, but that still doesn't make it the truth. It's an opinion.

Sometimes you have to tear down in order to build up.

Marine Corp boot camp comes to mind. Or urban renewal. Can the same be true with people? Some ideas and mindsets need to be torn down.

Opinion can be true, Crit. Or false. But, it can definitely be true.

TP didn't ask for a lesson from Spike to "build" his empire. Seems to me Spike can learn something from TP, who has his own studio, produced two TV sitcoms, has successful stage plays, a book and makes millions on top of millions in box offices. TP seems to know something about marketing and brand, and he has millions of followers.

No, an opinion is just that: an opinion. You can determine if it's YOUR truth. But it's still an opinion.
There's a difference between facts and opinion.

What you label an opinion can indeed be fact. You labeling it an opinion does not make it untrue.

No Spike Lee = John Singleton= BNTH=Ice Cube= Friday(F Gary Gray=Negotiator) and Barbershop.
" " = Ernest Dickerson = Juice
" " = Hughes Brothers = Videos and Menace II Society
" " = Hudlin Brothers = House Party
" " = Rusty Cundeiff = Fear of a Black Hat, Tales From the Hood, and Sprung
" " = Malcom Lee = The Best Man

With out Spike's success with She's Gotta Have It, School Daze, and Do The Right Thing, it's not a given that those previoulsy mentioned would have gotten an oppurtunity to present their craft. We're not going to get into a disscusion about the actors he has put on the map of all races.

so if spike lee has all that u mentioned why hasnt he gone to TP, voiced his opinion and tried to work together and develop a sitcom that shows "positive role models" like yall say on TV instead of tearing him down on newspapers and TV. i would until he develops a show of that caliber to shut the hell up too.

No. My opinions are facts and your facts are opinions.

Don't y'all know I'm always right?

Seriously, don't we all feel that way? What we believe is "true" and what we don't agree with is "opinion".

Show of what calibur?

Lightening up is the reason why 1 percent of the population controls more than 90 percent of the wealth and countries like China and India are beating the crap out of us.

If a white man produced the same type of movies that TP does, he would have been ran out of hollywood along time ago and protested by the same folks who go and watch TP's movies.

White folk HAVE done it, failed, tried again at times and moved on.

In fact one of them is VERY famous and has made HBO tons of money with his show now in its final season. Doug Ellin wrote and directed the movie Phat Beach with a then unknown Brian Hooks. He went on create Entourage.
Whose Your Caddy was written by a WHITE man-who was ticked at how the film was promooted as black versus white in ads and the FEW folks who saw the film stated it was nothing like that.
Whose The Man with Ed Lover was cowritten by a white man who writes for HBO's Arliss and Big Love.
You guys do know Sanford and Son and Cosby were originally WHITE shows from the UK-the first 6 episodes of Sanford and Son were taken directly from Steptoe & Son.

Folks are getting tired of folks worshiping Tyler like he is GOD. We hear the comments-

"He's employing US" Last time I checked Ice Cube, Arjay Smith, LL Cool J, Luda, Ice T, Regina King, Kevin Michael Richardson, Lee Thompson Young, Raven, The Mowery Twins, Donald Glover, Wesley Jonathan, Tracey Morgan, Jaleel White, Dwayne McDuffie (RIP), Noel Clarke, Nick Cannon, Jamil Smith Walker and others don't get thier paychecks from Tyler Perry. Most of them are on shows with HIGHER ratings than The Tyler Perry empire. 3 took roles there were meant for white actors.

McDuffie did more than Tyler, all he did was create Static Shock, Ben 10 and Justice League. He wrote a bleeping video game and 2 hit DC Comics DTD movies. Yet 95% of the hood have no idea who he is. He's the perfect example of why folks are tired of Tyler Perry. There are other folks busting thier azzes and they are ignored because our own media chooses to ignore them.

How many of these movies came out arond the same time? All these folks and thier casts got the same amount of press no matter how much money that film cost or who was doing it. That is what we have lost in 2011.
If you have somebody that is deemed a black geek dipped in chocolate or a sellout-BET, Black Beat, XXL, Source and other black media will ignore them. John Cena and J Lo's Azz got more coverage in the black media than Lincoln Heights.

It's not like folks haven't tried. You have to SELL that show to a network even if you do the Tyler Perry route. Someone has to BUY it. Even if you have created a hit show or a success project.
Felicia Henderson couldn't get a pilot sold after creating Soul Food the series
Dwayne McDuffie got Static Shock greenlighted with one clause-Static mother had to be DEAD, no gay friend and no female sidekick like in the comic
McDuffie couldn't use Black Lighting for Justice League
Jaleel White took his pilot online

The downside to Tyler's success is networks want copycats instead of allowing for variety.

To some of yall it's not a big deal but to others it is. Because we see the negative side effects of it on our kids and when you don't have PARENTS and COMMUNITY talking and educating thier kids on what they see in the media isn't always the HOLY truth. You get most of the mess that we are seeing now. You get young black boys that think any male not sagging his pants is a homosexual, be an azz in school, smart=white, every black boy wanting to be a thug, rapper or dumb jock and so on.

People want variety and we don't have that now.
Look at your music it's the same 40 songs on black stations. I have to go to WHITE radio station to hear Lupe? LLoyd? Mario?
Books-I have to go to a WHITE neighborhood to get nonhood drama books?
I have to to GQ to read about Donald Glover? Romeo's charity work?
I have to got the WHITE media to learn about other black artists including guys whose art work has been featured everywhere including most of the artwork for certain movies?

Something isn't right about that.
