Tuskegee officials announced Friday that they had begun interviewing candidates interested in becoming the Golden Tigers' new head football coach.

Lots of candidates.

As many as eight coaches could get on-campus interviews at Tuskegee over the next week, as the 12-person search committee tries to narrow a field of more than 30 applicants down to three by Thursday.

Among those scheduled to come in are current UAB assistant George Pugh, former Texas Southern head coach Bill Thomas, current Albany State offensive coordinator Donald Pittman and former Temple assistant Willie Slater.

Notice anything odd about that list?

Moon and Cole must be related somehow. He is definitely in Cole's corner.

I woulda thought Cole interviewing at JSU would get anybody else to take a solid look at him.

I doubt that. Fairly or not, Cole's name has had a negative stigma attached to it for quite a while now. Interviewing at JSU isn't going to change that. There are too many other candidates out there to take a chance on someone like him. What Cole needs to do is look for a REAL assistant's job, bide his time for a few years and hopefully re-emerge as a candidate later down the road. Right now he's only hurting himself by publically applying for and getting rejected by every HBCU headcoaching job that comes up.

There's a lot more to this story that an outsider to Alabama politics just don't understand. Some of the same people who were a part of the ASU witch hunt probally made a call to Tuskegee or had someone to make a call to Tuskegee and that was it for Cole.

but that's probably your new coach...he has served as coach/AD at TSU and that's attractive to Tuskegee

There best bet out of the ones named above is Albany's OC only if L.C. don't get the job. ;)

One wonders how Moon knows whether LC got an interview or not. TU did not releases a list of names who got an interview. Moon did not quote LC saying he didn't get an interview. So how does he know?

Would Josh Moon really lie though? I mean, he was the one that reported Joe Reed running Cole out of town and all the other funny business that was going on over there on that campus. Maybe there's some spinful truth behind his columns.

Good question. In his profession, it is his job to have credible ways to find out this information with an official release from Tuskegee University.

i.e. "Leaks"

OK... so I'm back at 8:20pm, I just got a PM from somebody that's playing a cruel joke on Tuskegee faithful. I can just hear the students under the shed now and the alumni accross the field.

Bill is a good coach and administrator....may not be championship level but he kept the ship floating because it has sunk when he was fired....he's the master of eligibility so he'll probably succeed at Tuskegee...

My knee-jerk was for Tuskegee not to touch Cole with a ten foot pole,,, no rhymn intended. the latest articles/commentaries out of the Montgomery Advertiser have given me pause,, but still,,, i'm just leary of a guy who NCAA investigations seem to follow,, at least at TSU and ASU,, even though he was not implicated in serious infractions in those cases. plus too I don't think he rebuilt ASU,, i think that started under that other guy who was an assistant as JSU,, but ok, he did get the program competitive,, and isn't the last year or two his players? i dunno,,, Tuskegee should at least give the guy an interview though for crying out loud. Our stupid-arse myopic admin can fvck up a wet dream and probably will on this coaching hire. :smh:

Is Willie Slater the former QB at Livingston College now Univ of West AL. If so, he was a player back in the day. A Tuskegee Alum told me they were going to make run at Shaw Univ coach. I guess that fell through.
