Tulane Football Camp Report:

I just think parking is going to be horrible for the new stadium. I had a hard time finding a space by the Wilson Center until my contact allowed me to park in a restricted area as long as my hazards were on. They better build a high parking ramp on the other side of the baseball field if they want good numbers.

You are right about there young players. They seem to be pretty hyped. Curtis Johnson has them St.Aug and John Curtis deep. The Edward Williams kid from Warren Easton is going to be a beast also. They have 50 some kids from Louisiana on their roster for the first time since 98. I hope they turn the tide in their history. There is no reason why any college football team in New Orleans should suck. There is just too much talent in the river parishes. Even UNO's club football team won a national championship.

Tulane has always had parking issues for long as I know. I read in the paper that they plan to contract with some nearby parking lots and shuttle people in and out to the games. They are strapped for space as I don't see those people that live in those million dollar houses on Audubon Court moving out anytime soon. So UNO really does have some type of organized football program. I saw a picture of a guy in a UNO football uniform and I thought it was a halloween costume.

So did I.........Bear Bryant was one of his Achilles heel but a good coach never the less. Another one was Grambling and Southern still being able to get top notch black athletes towards the latter part of his career. Eddie Rob was large and in charge during the latter years of Mac's era........Particularly in the late 60's and all of the 70's.

I remember the Eddie Robinson Show too. The best part of his show was the introduction. They used start off by showing the band playing and singing their fight song, "Hey, We Are Grambling". Back then IMO, the Eddie Robinson Show was way bigger and better than the Charlie Mac Show. I was really big on Grambling up until I started attending the Bayou Classic in the 70's.

I used to get up on Sunday mornings and watch it too. :emlaugh: I remember it real well. If memory serves me correctly that show was shown in several markets across the country. You're right, Charlie Mac's show was more of a regional set up. That Eddie Rob show was big stuff. I also remember how Howard Cosell used to talk up those athletes on Monday night football. It was really some exciting times for SWAC football.........I also remember the ABC special that Howard Cosell did on Grambling though I was a youngster........I know a lot of the younger people might not know him but Howard Cosell was the premiere broadcaster back then and Muhammad Ali's side kick.

A hollween costume? Lol.

Yeah dude. UNO has had an off and on club football team since the 70's. The funny thing is they have always been good. The only reason why they never played in the NCAA is because LSU didn't allow them to have a program while in the LSU system. As you know, once they broke away from the LSU system, their campus has been on the move. After they recovered fron Katrina, they started a club football team in 2008 and were once again competitive. In 2010, they won the NCFA National Championship by beating Miami Ohio University's club football team. Yes,the same Miami Ohio who has a MAC conference team. UNO plays their home games at Tad Gormley and has had better ticket sells than some FCS schools.

In 2015, they are planning a move to the FCS ranks. They will either be a FCS independent or play in the Southland. It will only be a matter of time before we see a Southern or Grambling vs. UNO in New Orleans at Tas Gormley. If they want to start off with crazy ticket sells and a scary attendance showing for a first year FCS program, I think a SU or GSU game is the way to go.

Yes. They have football, but they will join the NCAA in 2015. I was told that they were going to play division II football in the Gulf Coast Conference before moving to the FCS. We will see what happens.

Nice video. It is just funny to see them at Gormley. If they are successful, I can see them building a 20,000 seat stadium on campus.

The funny thing is I grew up blocks away from UNO and never knew this. I moved to Baton Rouge in 04 and I go home just about everyday and never heard anyone talking about man I'm going to that UNO game. I saw that picture of dude in the football uniform and was like WTH is he going to the halloween party as a UNO football player.

:emlaugh: I saw that a while back when they had football as a club sport. Is it still that way?

No they will go straight to FCS. They are D1 in every other sport, so they would not play DII football.
