Yeap and La Tech botched their hiring process after Leon Barmore retired. He wanted Kim Mulkey as the coach, but they messed up the hire. Really LSU didn't really turn the corner in women's basketball until they got Seimone Augustus, but once she and Sylvia Fowles left, they have came back down to earth. Keep your eyes on ULL's football program. They will only have their coach for 1 more season before some big school hires him away. Will they make the same mistake?

If Tulane can convince those local players to stay in N.O. and play for them, they should be able to make some noise in the AAC.

Before LSU got Augustus Grambling women Basketball was bigger then LSU.
LSU, you right, was better in most sports then Tulane, LA Tech and the rest of the State but they were know ways the Power House until Saban came into the Picture. In the 90s, they couldnt get any kid in the State. LSU was up and Down in the 90s, which left room forTulane, McNeese, Grambling, SU, Northwestern, to get a few Players that Now wouldnt look any where past LSU..

Do you think the fact that when Tulane de-emphasized football is the reason for this.

At 2 p.m. Oct. 15, 1949, Tulane was perched near the pinnacle of college football.

But 10 minutes into a much-anticipated game against Notre Dame, the Green Wave had been convincingly and permanently dislodged from the ranks of the sport's elite. And that calamitous day has colored -- perhaps haunted -- Tulane athletics ever since.

In the following years, Tulane's program tumbled in prestige and popularity as a result of several decisions -- including a de-emphasis on sports and dropping out of the powerful Southeastern Conference -- that many university officials, albeit through the benefit of hindsight, today consider wrongheaded.

Yes, I believe the aforementioned opened the door. However, Tulane has had tactical problems and scams along the way that kept them from being a consistent formidable foe. Tulane has had more bad times than good times in football. Sure there has been spot success, but for the most part, over the years, their football prowess has been a joke. I have seen them upset LSU a couple of times (with my eyes) but those were very rare occurrences. I also saw Shawn King teams, and of course Mewalde Moore teams led by J.P Lossman and Patrick Ramsey QB(s) play against Southern U. Those were a few of the peak years for Tulane football which have been far and few between. Yes, I remember "Louisiana Jones" too.

Will Tulane football turn around under Johnson? I don't know but wish them well. Where is Tulane Football at the end of 2012 in the Louisiana football hierarchy? It is a 3rd tier program. (1st Tier LSU, 2nd Tier ULM, ULL & LA Tech). Where are they in a non BCS conference? Non competitive. There is a buzz around the 2013 football campaign. However, old JROCK will believe it when he see it and don't have much faith in them. Will they beat Jackson State? Yes. Will they beat ULM and LA Tech? No.....not unless a great metamorphosis has taken place.

True. Many people may not remember when Tulane and LSU played every year. The game regularly drew 70,000 - 80,000 people to the Superdome or Tiger Stadium. Tulane won 24-13 in 1979, 48-7 in 1981 and 31-28 in 1982. Interest in the game waned in the late 80's and early 90's with the growth of the SEC and CUSA and they stopped playing yearly after the 1994 season.

True........Unfortunately that was 3 of the 4 wins that they were able to get in 50 meetings and one of the few peaks they experienced. I do remember a few years when that game was comparable to the Bayou Classic (when it was peaking). However it fizzled out.......

Actually, Tulane is 23-68-7 against LSU. LSU started to become the dominant team they are today in the late '80s and early '90s and the game was no longer competitive. Interest fizzled out. Before that, the game drew huge crowds in New Orleans or Baton Rouge and was competitive though LSU was the larger school and had more resources.

I agree with that your series numbers are close enough (on the first page I provided the series numbers with a link for CFW and the record according to them are very close to yours 22-69-7) Unfortunately 18 of those wins were prior to 1949. :lol: :emlaugh: I only gave you result of the last 50 games in regards to your post (I could have been clearer but took for granted you read the entire thread). If you look on page 1, I have broken it down in several different ways.

The game drew in no due to lsu fans....they played in the 2000s and there were so many bandwagon Tulane fans it was pitiful as the score was somewhat close at first. Any other time the dome is a tomb

LSU and Tulane officials are having informal discussions about playing each other in the 2015 season opener on Sept. 5 in the Superdome, LSU senior associate athletic director Verge Ausberry said Thursday. The teams haven't played since 2009 when the teams mutually agreed to end a 10-year home-and-home contract after four games.

As part of ending the contract, LSU agreed to play Tulane once more in New Orleans. The teams stopped playing annually in 1995 but played single games in 1996 and 2001.
 
I stopped by the Wilson Center Friday morning while on business. I was told that CJ is suspending a few players for the Jackson State game. I also got a chance to talk to Nick Montana, Jordan Sullen, Mike Neu and Chris Davenport. I am 6'4 220 and Davenport made me look like a little boy. He is a big dude. Tulane finally looks like an FBS program. They have size, speed and depth this season. With all of their key transfers along with players like Texas A&M decommit D. Monroe, they should be going bowling. I will be in the dome Thursday night.

I was over there Friday evening as well picking up some tickets for the game. Talked to a few of the freshman football players that were in the sports shop getting some gear. Those kids are looking forward to their first college game. I also chatted with the kid Devin that was injured last year. That stadium is coming along as well.

Yea 5 players are suspeneded for the game but none are starters.
 



I would go when I leave school but that start time and than leaving for Houston about 9am. No sleep so I don't know. Maybe If I get a free ticket I'll go. lol

You younger guys ever heard of Charlie McClendon? He's probably the all time winning coach in LSU history. LSU was prominent nationally in the 1950s through the 1980s. The program went down in the 1990s and Saban resurrected it. Bear Bryant hated playing in Tiger Stadium.

So did I.........Bear Bryant was one of his Achilles heel but a good coach never the less. Another one was Grambling and Southern still being able to get top notch black athletes towards the latter part of his career. Eddie Rob was large and in charge during the latter years of Mac's era........Particularly in the late 60's and all of the 70's.

I just think parking is going to be horrible for the new stadium. I had a hard time finding a space by the Wilson Center until my contact allowed me to park in a restricted area as long as my hazards were on. They better build a high parking ramp on the other side of the baseball field if they want good numbers.

You are right about there young players. They seem to be pretty hyped. Curtis Johnson has them St.Aug and John Curtis deep. The Edward Williams kid from Warren Easton is going to be a beast also. They have 50 some kids from Louisiana on their roster for the first time since 98. I hope they turn the tide in their history. There is no reason why any college football team in New Orleans should suck. There is just too much talent in the river parishes. Even UNO's club football team won a national championship.

Davenport struggled at LSU....will be a better fit at Tulane...

the problem with NO kids has been grades pre-katrina...Pete at SU had a load of them but you had to wait a year for them to qualify...with the school closures, not as much to go around now so once the big schools cherrypick, the level drops off tremendously

But I always said Lousiana 2A, 3A football is better than texas in most cases
