Top Degree Producers Among HBCUs

What are the default rates for Community Colleges?

I doubt as high. These for profit schools are a scam. Places like Sanford Brown charge kids five times the price for what they can get in community college, where the credit will transfer. Many get stuck when they cant keep paying at the for profit schools and the credits wont transfer.

On tuition that is a fraction of 4 year colleges. It is the TYPE of student, regardless of the school.

Ga St is so large with blacks because there is no public HBCU in Atlanta. If Atlanta had a public HBCU it would be the largest out of all schools. Most of those kids can't afford the tuition at the AUC schools so they go to Ga ST. I will admit it is still a commuter school, but not the same one from the 80's and early 90's. I remember when you couldn't pass classes at the AUC or your school from out of town we came home for the summer and took them at Ga St. They were much easier...........

Old heads will fight you though about this issue. I have met many older alumni who are absolutely opposed to JSU offering online coursework.

Stubborn old heads are going to be the death of HBCU's.

We could OWN the adult/online market, but you can't get some of these people (even internally) to get with the times. :shame:

We'd better do something because more and more black HS grads are choosing PWC's hand over fist.

I agree wholeheartedly.

U of PHX started taking a lot of heat from the govt cracking down. A friend of mine teaching online classes was not allowed to fail people. Even the ones who couldn't speak English. So I treat those degrees with a low regard, especially in interviews.

there was this online school that we caught giving out carpentry degrees. I will have to get the name when I get back to work on Monday but it was brought up in our Friday meeting about two months back.

I hope you're not proud of your graduations numbers and I know you're not happy about your enrollment numbers, so why bring up sTu? :read:

Yo, reason why I brought up TSU? The number and percentage of Southern students graduating is that much greater than TSU, even with you guys having a 10,000 student enrollment. Proof that all the hoopla about having a swollen campus of arses in the seats doesn't mean jack if you're not producing and graduating. Just saying son.

Actually we are producing and graduating....google our programs and alumni. We went from open enrollment to now requiring a 2.5 GPA. Our enrollment dropped to 6900 during a financial scandal that scarred our image, now it's back to 10k plus.

Seeing that SU is in the midst of the same type of change (graduation rate/enrollment/image), you should look at our success (financial/image/retention/enrollment) and not brag about graduating 50 more people than sTu and think that is doing something.

Open enrollment should not exist on the university level. I sincerely believe that. I hope your CDR drops too Txso.

Hmmm...

Not my experience from when I was in grad school. But then again, at Harvard in the late 90s there was an issue with professors not being allowed to fail folks.

I personally know folks who failed UPhx classes while I was there. Ironically, most of them were university employees who thought they could skate through.

So with transfers not being included in university graduation rates, how would sending students to Community College before admitting them to HBCUs actully help our grad rates?

Because you would weed out a good number of those who aren't prepared and doomed to fail from the start.

Grad school and undergrad at U of Phoenix are two very different things. I actually think they run a good master's program.

But it still doesn't raise your university's profile. More folks seem to pay attention to grad rates than any other academic measure.

It would raise your grad rates. That is basically what Southern did by closing its admissions. It forced a lot of those kids who weren't going to finish anyway to go to BRCC.

Hell I failed a class in UPHX MBA program. One of the guys in our group plagiarized his portion of the paper and we(the team) got an F. This caused us all to fail the class. We all were allowed to retake the class. It was all of our fault that we didn't see the plagiarized portion the paper and made the necessary corrections.

I've seen the opposite. Maybe it's the DMV area, but a lot of companies recognized Master's degrees from UofP. I've even been asked about the programs I majored in at the UofP. Having the experience is the first thing and the degrees are the icing on the cake. I know several people in key positions that received Masters degress from Phoenix.
