Time management new issue for JSU

Jackson State has had trouble, at times, getting plays off on time this season.
The Tigers have been whistled for nine delay of game penalties ? three in each of the first three games ? and have also had to burn a few timeouts to avoid being penalized before the 25-second play clock expired.
It's a problem the Tigers are working to correct, JSU coach James Bell said Monday.
In the first three games, Bell has signaled in plays from the sideline along with backup quarterbacks Brian Green and Jeremy Handy.
"It's a combination of things," Bell said. "We've just got to keep working it out."
Bell said quarterback Robert Kent has sometimes asked for the play more than once.
"Maybe we need to work on his contacts, or get him a shield to keep the grass and everything else out of his eyes," Bell said. "But I think we got that part of it worked out."
KICKING CHANGE: Bell opted to go with Jaime Salazar over Ashcher Ashley at placekicker Saturday night. Bell says he will use the kicker with the highest percentages during the week, and that kicker was Salazar last week.
Salazar's first PAT was blocked; JSU went for two the next time it scored. Ashley kicked most of last season as a freshman and in JSU's first two games this season.
"We had a little kick-off like we do every week. . . it's whoever has the highest percentage," Bell said. "We try to be fair to all of them."
CENTER EXCHANGE: Starter Chris Bates and backup Tremayne Matthews each played at center Saturday. It wasn't because Bates, an All-SWAC pick, was playing bad, or that he was hurt, Bell said.
"If (Tremayne) earns the play, we play him," Bell said. "What we try to do is make sure we're not stuck with guys who are not prepared to play. That's my philosophy, we're going to play guys and make sure they're ready to play."
JSU had two poor exchanges between the center and Kent leading to a pair of fumbles, one inside the Tennessee State 1-yard line.

Word to the wise, to many changes is not good. We learned that lesson last season with the musical quarterbacks.
