The view of taking the vaccine or not taking it

I don't get it. Why are both sides arguing over this. Have we really gotten away from being moderate? If you want to take the shot no one should be mad at you. If you don't want to take the shot no one should be mad at you. What's new? Every few years something comes along and folks have to make the decision what's best for them. Why are folks on either side mad at the other?

That is funny you would say this. I was just having this conversation with my aunt who is Muslim about this, she said she not taking the shot because the doctors of the Nation advised against it. I told my aunt I'm taking my second dose April 1st and there was no argument. I told her that my thought on it if I didn't die on my way to PV freshman year when my car flipped over and went off a small cliff and I flew out the backseat through the windshield and the car landed on top of me, then that tells me whether you believe in God or not that I'm not supposed to die until it is time for me to die so if the shot kills me it was my die no matter what.
 



There is a risk in taking any vaccine. That would be understood, and people shouldn't be shamed for having a concern about risk factors. And people -- especially Black people have hesitancy in trusting the medical community because of a long history of poor treatment and racism. That's legit.

But these people who flat-out ain't going to consider taking it because they believe in the power of their immune system (which is complicated) or feel like the pandemic is being blown out of proportion or feel like they rather take their chances with COVID-19 or won't do it because of religious reasons are only prolonging the pandemic. And those people deserve criticism.
 
I grew up when to be able to enroll in kindergarten/elementary school you had to have the smallpox vaccination (left a scar on your arm) then you had to have tetanus, polio, measles, rubella, whooping cough and tuberculosis shots/vaccines. Those shots and vaccinations kept many children from getting sick nor getting debilitating diseases. I think I am missing one more I think.

I understand what you're saying but you can't force people to take something they don't trust. I'm not against it, but if the person who doesn't want to take it believes it will be harmful to their body they have the same right you have.

The vaccines our kids are getting there were test subjects also -

this disease is a little more deadly and doesn't take much to take you out. Just think a night on the town by a youngster without a mask and unvaccinated can come back to wipe out a household overnight

And when they get sick they should not be treated.

People are made to do things that protect the masses all of the time. No smoking indoors because of cancer from second hand smoke is one that readily comes to mind.

Having liability insurance to cover repair costs of the vehicle of the other person.

They should not be treated. You refuse the vaccine then you get sick and not only put yourself at risk but those who have to treat you as well.

Had my 2nd dose yesterday. A little achy today. Tylenol took care of it. This isn't hard. This is what we get when people make opinion out of fact. If you are black, slightly overweight, hypertension, diabetes, sickle cell, asthma... you should be in the front of the line to get the vaccination.
The vaccine is (pfizer & moderna) are mrna vaccines that contain just mrna as active ingredients, something your body already has in it. mrna is used by your cells as instructions to make proteins. the vaccine just tells it to make a protein that is found on the virus. your body recognizes it as foreign and destroys it, but files that information away so if it ever sees it again it will handle business (don't come back on my block!) the mrna itself is degraded the same way it does any other mrna.
some people do have a reaction to inactive ingredients. a friend had a seizure & couldn't take the 2nd dose. 3 of my children have sickle cell. I have a bmi right at 30, hypertension, and asthma. I do not have time to play with covid. While we are talking about personal decisions, name the people you are willing to sacrifice for your choice. Mama, I love you but if I give you the covid that's just too bad for you.

I took my 2nd dose on March 3rd.

That is different from putting something in your body.
 
I know black people who got diabetes, hypertension, and other illnesses who caught Covid-19 and had mild symptoms. I know folks that are healthy and caught it and got beat down. So all that doesn't matter.

The main concern I have about the vaccine is how fast it was developed. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but in the back of my mind, I feel they may have had this in the works and were waiting for the "right time" to release it.
 
Hmmm, I will say this; If it wasn't for vaccinations, we would have people running around here with mumps, measles, chickenpox, and numerous other infectious diseases. I do understand some people's concerns about how swiftly the medicine was developed. I suspect that as time progresses, the Covid-19 vaccination will be honed. However, that doesn't do anything for the present.

Polio would still have people in leg braces to walk. Smallpox would be killing people. Meningitis would be taking people out. Tuberculosis would be killing people.

If you have taken penicillin or any other antibiotic you are being hypocritical.

I get what both of you are saying. I guess I just have to wrap my mind around modern medicine. I've been so used to hearing how long it took to develop and test those vaccines you both mentioned.

@Herbert77060, I don't feel like I'm being hypocritical. Maybe a little overly cautious.

ALL medicine is modern when it is first developed. Y'all need to stop drinking the koolaid and not knowing it.
