The SWAC is soft. Let’s just admit it

In a similar post I wrote about our lack of defense. However, after watching the FCS semis and the Celebration Bowl I’ve come to the conclusion that we are just soft as a conference. Most of the top FCS teams run boring, smash mouth, offensive schemes. I hope there’s a paradigm shift amongst our schools to recruit more physical players so we can matchup better with the upper echelon teams.

You have damn good FCS teams who throw the ball a ton.

You need a great O-line and D-line…not an ok line, but GREAT. When Billy Joe was near the top, people forget how good his teams were in the trenches.

The MEAC isn’t anymore physical than the SWAC. The MEAC does get more time to prepare for an opponent…the past two years specifically because everybody knew Jackson State was gonna be in the CB

Another thing is Maynor beat South Carolina St. The reason is QB play. Glass could torch you, but that also allowed a running game. QBs like Glass and Sanders are rare on lower divisions. Another thing is getting white boys on the line at the deep south is different. Them Carolina white boys ain't that much different but a lil different than Alabama, Arkansas and Sippi white boys

I still see no reason for the touted J-State not being able to stop the run. They gave up 276 yds and 6.3 yds / carry despite having arguably the best defensive staff in college football history. Thurman is 2-time NFL DC, Mike Zimmer is a former NFL head coach and defensive guru, and Prime himself is immortalized in Canton.

Does it get any better than this? No excuses. Throughout 4 quarters, the top defense in FCS should have revealed itself especially with the depth obtained through the portal as compared to other BCF squads.

I watched North Dakota State vs Incarnate Word (as much as I could in a public venue).

NDSU was 1-12 for 5 yards passing. And won.

No matter how much football evolves, it will never not come down to blocking and tackling.

UIW came out swinging but eventually NDSU was able to control the game and play their style.

Yet we didn’t change or scheme up anything people haven’t seen before. we literally ran the ball at straight them as we have done to teams all year. MEAC philosophy is simple.. run the ball, stop the run.

And I'm sure Jackson State -- which had two weeks to prepare for NC Central -- scouted them, too.
