The Sabbath Day

I recently read a book, when I get a hold of it again I will give the title and author..but it questioned why we no longer acknowledge the Sabbath Day as Saturday. They said if we were to live by the 10 commandments how can you only acknowledge 9? They mentioned that no where in the bible was the Sabbath moved from Saturday to Sunday. It was pretty interesting. I dont post or check this board or anyboard on here as frequent as I use to, so if this was posted before..I apologize. I just wanted to understand where this change or disconnect occured.

I hope this helps!

According to Exodus 23:12, one of the purposes of the Sabbath was to give man and his animals one day of physical rest each week. Today's medical science has proven that our bodies need at least one day of rest each week to function at our peak. Deuteronomy 5:15, also clearly states that the Sabbath was to serve as a reminder to the Jews that they had been slaves in Egypt and were delivered from bondage, not by their own efforts, but by the supernatural power of God. However, in the New Testament, there is an even clearer purpose of the Sabbath stated. In Colossians 2:16-17, Paul reveals that the Sabbath was only a shadow of things to come and is now fulfilled in Christ. Hebrews 4:1-11, talks about a Sabbath rest that is available to, but not necessarily functional in, all New Testament believers. This New Testament Sabbath rest is simply a relationship with God in which we have ceased from doing things by our own efforts and are letting God work through us (Gal. 2:20; Heb. 4:10).

The Sabbath is not a day, but rather a relationship with God through Jesus.

Yeah, I remember reading something similar:

ORIGIN OF SUNDAY WORSHIP

Ample evidence from history shows that the celebration of Sunday originated from pagan practices of SUN WORSHIP. In March of 321 A.D., the Roman Emperor Constantine, who was at first a sun-worshiper and later a Christian convert, issued the first decree declaring Sunday to be a legal day of rest.

In 336 A.D., the Roman Catholic Church officially changed the observance of Sabbath to Sunday for political and economic expediency. Since then, the original Sabbath gradually gave way to Sunday observance and the practice remains to this day. The Biblical Sabbath, however, is and has always been on the seventh day of the week, or Saturday.

Here is a hint: Even in the Old Testament Saturday was not the Sabbath for the Levites. It was their most important workday of the week.

Now we have the Baby (the good) without the bath water (the implications that we should honor the Saturday Sabbath). This parsed quote is %100 true.

1 Thessalonians 5: 21. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Good Day and God Bless

This is the best way to identify Man’s tradition (i.e. none Biblical Doctrine) ….You will only find its origins outside of the Bible. The Pope and his crew gave us a lot.

Catholicism may have rename the first day of the week “the Sabbath Day”; however, the first day of the week (Mark 16:9/Acts 20:7) was the day the early Church gathered for worship for it was the day of Christ resurrection. The first day of the week is also mentioned in the New Testament as “The Lord’s Day”

Revelation 1:10. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet

The Sabbath was never observed, promoted or practiced by the early Church; it was fulfilled by Christ. When the source of a shadow is reveal, we have no need for the shadow.

Colossians 2:16. Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

This will allow us to avoid being deceived by traditions:

2 Timothy 2:15. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Good Day and God Bless

If we view all things relative to eternity....with our primary focus on Christ...we can extract His Glory from many things. I don't know how hard the Levites worked on Saturday but I do know that their office (earthly Priesthood) and their work (animal sacrafies) pointed to and was fulfilled by Christ.

Hebrews 7:27-28. Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

Hebrews 8:1-2. Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

:lecture:It is all about Christ, if we miss Him, all is for lost

Good Day and God Bless

I really appreciate you folks using scripture to back up your statements. It seems every day I'm learning something I didn't know before.
