The GMs ego stopped the Bulls from adding more championships under their belt. The only team that would have challenged them was the Spurs.
Crazy how Pippen was the second best player on the team, but had like the 6th spot salary wise. How the heck is Luke Longley making more than him?!
Funny how they said that the Bulls were coke addicts when Jordan first arrived in town.

I think ESPN over-hyped this docu-series.... It's a great story and I enjoyed it. Made my kids (19 and 17) watch it so they could see who the logo on the tennis shoes really was.......
But this seems no different than any of the 30-for-30 shows........

I only watched the first one so far. I think Jordan came in and changed the team immediately for the bulls. His contract and Pippens was not the best deals during that time.
Exactly, Krause killed that team. He thought he could come rebuild it from scratch. He wasn't the one that was there that originally drafted Jordan. If the Rockets would have went thru with the trade with the Blazers, they would have had Hakeem, Drexler & Jordan.
A lot of team during that era was coke addicts.
Jerry Reinsdorf did.
He allowed Krause to do as he pleased for the most part because A) he's extremely loyal. And B) he (and now his son) let people he hires make the decisions. He did it with Paxson and Foreman the last 13 years, and with Kenny Williams with the White Sox. He let three GMs impede the potential for long-term sustained success with organizations he ran.
This is not a defense of Krause by any means, but we kill every owner when the teams they own fail on their watch. Jerry Reinsdorf allowed -- went along with -- the idea that arguably the best coach of all-time, surrounded by some of the best players in the history of the sport needed to break up in the middle of its championship window.
And the first half of the documentary went all-in on the GM and not the owner who REFUSED to rein him in.

my wife watched the first two parts and asked why the owner just didn’t fire the GM. She doesn’t even follow sports, but she saw that Krause and the owner’s inability/inaction as the problem.

watching this series so far made me think of the dynasties I grew up watching crumble before getting all of the rings they could.
Lakers crumbled because Kobe snitched on Shaq.
Heat crumbled because the Ohio natives guilt tripped Lebron into coming back to the Cavs.
Warriors crumbled because KD was jealous of Curry for being the Michael Jackson of the group.

That was the part of the reason why Krause wanted to break up the Bulls. He didn't want to be like Boston, trying to win titles with a bunch of aging stars well after they were realistically beyond the title window. During the 1998 season, Jordan was 34, Rodman was 36, Pippen was 32 coming off surgery. Ron Harper was 34.
The only 20-something they could build around was Kukoc, who was 29 then. But he got traded to Philly when the franchise went into full tank mode.
And after that season, Jordan retired, Pippen had back surgery and his production declined every year after that and Rodman only played 35 more NBA games in his career. Maybe the Bulls could have won in 1999 under the 50-game season. But them winning more titles after that would have been difficult.

True. Front office had a decision to make for long-term success between Shaq and Kobe. Lakers brass chose Kobe for the long term, which was the best decision.

There's nothing for me to let go since I'm not a Lakers fan. That might not have been the main reason he left, but it is one of the reasons why he left.

The bulls have been trash ever since. Makes you wonder
Chicago had a period in the mid-2000s where they were a soild -- not great -- team. And in 2011 and 2012, the Bulls featured the best record in the NBA.
They've been trash during the tail end of the Hoiberg and now Boylan eras for sure.
