The Infamous "48 Posse" on YouTube!!!

The "48 Posse" was my freshman yr on the yard. Them boys was blowing all night long. Thanks for those memories!!!!

I was in Junior High School in New Orleans and heard about them. Thanks for posting the footage, because I never got the chance to see them.

Pressure from the administration for Doc to allw girls in the band, cause the disolvement of half of the bands scholarships, and work study. This happened after the start of school, so many students had received "account receivables" until their bill was paid. Being that they lost the scholarships after school started, the accounts receivables were revoked, and they were essentially kicked out of school. unless you had enough finacial aid or cash to cover the cost of tuition, room and board + out of state fees if you were not from La.
Thats the second hand story that I got from the old heads, but skull89 was there and completed the season so he would have the complete saga.

I knew a crab in the fall of 1990 and he loaned me the tape from 1990 where it had a story about the first girl that year and the first white guy on tuba

did SU battle against the 80s TSU that game?

Trying to make sure 48 didn't blow away a whole Ocean band?..lol I understand...

Not at first but now that you mention it. Most of the opinion of this is one sided. No old Ocean members, no one who was at the game from other schools (if they were) have corroborated. Plus, I'd like to see a battle from that early that isn't a bunch of MEAC bands. On other sites, when you click on 80's, most of what you get is MEAC and well......the aggression just isn't up to my speed sometimes.

How long did they go with 48, for just one game?

That was the only game we used 48. After that game we marched the standard 128. our first rip that season was the Saints Vs the Cowboys and we were 200 strong. i remember when the horses arrived after crab week, their were 10 snares. And i was the lone freshman. i had to include that. lol

You must do not talk to the KKPSI's from Gamma Omega who marched in the Ocean then. They freely acknowledge getting their arses handed to them and so did Butler. Butler even mentioned it at Doc's gala in Houston a couple years ago when the BC was there.

After '93 alot of Ocean alumni from that era and before just didn't come around the bandhall. Even now. Lee keeps most practices closed to most alumni. Butler told me a few months ago that he felt sorry Doc had to have 48 people but that he didn't recieve an L at all. But seriously, I've seen this, I want to see what the Ocean was working with that year before a few incidents took place in the music program when they had an unfriendly department head.

Now the Ocean was different back then for sure. I hate what happened after 91. I had just moved to Houston when the Ocean went through the Lee transition. I actually like Lee though. Even though old heads from the Ocean didn't. Butler would never try to cut us no slack. Doc and Butler are best friends but try to one up the other. Even though they would tell each other exactly what they are going to do.

:lmao:

Yeah, the last conversation I overheard between him and Doc was the SU game in '03. It sounded like "grumpy old men" the movie the way they were ribbin' each other! Why does Doc talk faster when he cusses?

Lee's not bad, it's just some things stylistically I think he didn't want to continue with the Ocean (like coming from the hole, the uni- you shoulda noticed by now that the shoulder crests are gone, block band, trbns in front, quads added, marching style) that the alumni weren't feeling he was right to do that because it was the Ocean's identity. And plus, Lee needed to control the band and that's his utmost priority and I can't knock him on that. Discipline is a good thing.

I haven't seen the Ocean in a minute, but they used to be a force to reckon with..

OOS was our nemesis back in the day...:smug: Then afterwards, we would all party together...

I remember in 93, SU came to town and played TSU in the Astrodome and did a tribute to Butler with the gospel show...TSU was barely 50 deep

In 89', what show did TSU do? On Youtube, they have 2 shows from the 80s by TSU at Southern and one was where they got house with the Love Me Tonight Ballad and the other was a Fatboys dance routine or something like that
