The HBCU Labor Day Classic Battle of the Bands returns to Jackson, MS

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The HBCU Labor Day Classic Battle of the Bands will return to Jackson on September 6, 2026.

The event is expected to draw more than 50,000 fans to Veterans Memorial Stadium. This year’s event will feature the first-ever appearance of Bethune-Cookman University in Jackson.

The Battle of the Bands will kick off with the HBCU Labor Day Fanfest at 12:00 p.m., which will offer music, food and vendors. Gates to the stadium will open at 4:00 p.m. The Battle of the Bands will tart at 7:00 p.m.

“This is the lineup that band fans have been asking for,” said Alex Davis, founder and president of HBCU Labor Day Classic. “When you bring together legendary programs like Jackson State, Southern University, Alabama State, Bethune-Cookman, Tuskegee, Grambling, Alcorn State, Talladega, Langston, and Mississippi Valley State, you’re creating an experience unlike anything else in the country. We are excited to welcome thousands of visitors to Jackson for what will undoubtedly be our biggest event ever.”
