The Great Debate: Better baseball player: Griffey or Bonds

It's close, but Barry Bonds all day every day. Bonds could have went to the AL and DH, but he got black balled out of the MLB. He would have hit over 800 HRs.

Griffey was a more complete player overall than Bonds in later years...Once Bonds started taking PEDs his defensive side fell off!

Good topic! Bonds was trill before the steroids in my opinion he didn't need it. When it came to putting wood on the baseball Bonds all day. Griffey was better all around from his swing to his athleticism so I would give the slight edge to Griffey

Griffey, Jr. was on pace to finish as the best baseball player of all time before his injury. Pre-injury, it's Griffey, Jr. hands down!

Bonds without question. Hit 40 HR's and Stole 40 bases in one season, was also a 5 tool player before he bulked up. I'm a huge Griffey fan but it's really not even close. You have Bonds, Mays, then everybody else.

First 10 seasons

Bonds: averaged 30 homers 90 RBI, .288 BA, 161 OPS+. WAR 7.6
Griffey: averaged 36 homers 105 RBI, .299 BA 145 OPS+. WAR 6.4

Ken Griffey was the better overall player for those of you that actually watched his era of baseball. Both were great hitters, but KG gets the defensive nod out of the two.

Ken Griffey was a Beast With the Glove, But Bonds gave you the base Stealing capabilities. Ken Griffey Swing was Magical so I give him the Nod.. Ken Griffey and Strawberry had the Best Swings in the league

I like both. But at the end of the day, Bonds had the better career. Although I think Jr Griffey had the potential to be the greatest of all time. Injuries derailed him while Bonds was err doing his thing to stay on the field. LOL. One thing we do know for sure. Jr will get in the HOF before Bonds will. The sad thing is, I don't think Bonds really needed to take PEDs to continue to be great. But we will never know since he did. Griff did seem slightly more of a natural athlete than Bonds though. Would have been great to have both of them in your outfield in their prime.

Like I said before, Ken Griffey, Jr. was the better player. Bonds clearly had the better overall career. There's no way you can compare post-injury Griffey to PED-era Bonds. KGJ had the best swing and outfield arm. Truth be told he was the better hitter. Bonds wasn't a feared hitter until him, McGuire, and Sosa were roided up. That's when all the BBs started.

Steroids doesn't help you hit the baseball. Barry had the best hand to eye coordination ever seen. Also, pitchers used steroids 10x more than hitters. It helped them recover faster.

Yeah, but steroids can sure in the hell turn a fly to left field into a missile to the concession stand. Lol.

You are so very right about those pitchers.

Come on. Steroids helps you hit the ball farther, you know that. Statistically speaking, Griffey was the better hitter too. Kendrick put the stats up above. The fact is nobody was calling Barry Bonds THE BEST PLAYER in baseball before he started chasing/breaking home run records, but that's also the most controversial part of his career. Bonds even started his career out as a lead-off hitter for a few years. KGJ was regarded as the best player in baseball for a few years in the 90s. Don't get me wrong, Barry was one of the greatest players of all time, but Griffey was the better baseball player.
