The FBS Football Playoff Debate Continues

Playoff runs have nothing to do with FBS invites. GaState, since you brought them up, have not even been to the playoffs AT ALL. It's all about money. When Georgia Southern is looking like Marshall at 3-9 every year, I bet they won't ever want to come back to the SoCon just to try to win a 1-AA national championship. Everything in 1-AA is smalltime/D2 to the rest of the world.

Yep. That's all I am saying. All those schools winning FCS titles are wishing they were FBS. ND State is a small FBS school in FCS clothing. They are actually too big to be FCS.

Another Bad Example.

Georgia State told the world that they was only interested in FBS ball from day #1. They have never said a word about competing in FCS period. Their only goal from day #1 was FBS and they put a time frame on it.

Why are ya'll so pissed that ya'll can't convince me the playoffs is such a bad thing? Is it that important to ya'll because I said I don't care but I will respond to any question put towards me.

I have to explain why I respond so other posters won't come in with the elementary "you post a lot" bullshat.

LOL. It is a good debate. Although we are all guilty of beating a dead horse on this subject. What is the real deal is our core fans could care less either. That's why none of our Presidents/Chancellors have been forced to do something. The average JSU and SU fan rather play each other 11 times a year. LOL. Only the alums and hard core fans who know football really well and follow entire FCS football is even remotely interested in those playoffs and even some of them are not. Hence no push to our administrations to change. Only banter on TSPN, which we all make up less than 1% of any of our fan bases. So our opinions are definitely in the minority.

.... and then you have to add in those who only want to come to see the bands. I think there would be interest if we were in bigger conference but if we moved to C-USA or the Sunbelt, our fans would not be very interested except for maybe playing USM for JSU or UL-Lafayette for Southern.

I have always seen this "moving up" deal in the same way that admins see it... as a way for the school to get more visibility. That is the bottomline.

No one is pissed. Its your opinion and no one is trying to convince you otherwise. We think your opinion is wrong just like you think ours is wrong. I see just as much value in a SWAC championship as any other championship and every kid is not set out to win a national championship. If that's the case, they would not play at some of the schools they know will never win one. For JSU, wining the SWAC should mean a WHOLE LOT considering we only won ONE in 17 years.

See what I mean JR?

I post............ I'm crazy.
I say I don't care............... reverse psycology 101 with the "you shole posting a lot" crap.
Then when the really senile and squirrley, then they go to the name calling and post about YOU IGNORANT and bullshat like this.

You know, typical IGGA shat.

And this fool is still putting words into my mouth. Never did I say JSU or anybody needed the playoff to move up. What I said that this dyslexic man have not seen in 3 post is A PLAYOFF RUN AND A NC ON THE RESUME WILL..........................

Let him go back and find it for himself.
And please tell me when and what conferences JSU, GSU, and SU have got INVITES to move up in Mordern times. Don't come telling me about some shat back when WC gorden was a assistant coach.

Mordern times............FBS CONFERENCE NAME, DATES, (YEAR), WITHIN LAST 20 YEARS?

Stop being so damn sensitive nobody called you ignorant. I said you were ignorant to your own worth. Duh....

Now you're trying to qualify your bogus position. What the hell does modern times have to so with any damn thing?

Either way none of us had made a playoff run or won a national title.

They say ignorance us bliss alot of folks are in Hogg heaven right Abott now.

Ok............ Now I'm sensitive and ignorant to my own worth.....(whatever the hell that mean).
As for my bogus position........I say again............See what I mean JR.
My position is bogus and his is A1 top notch. And now, just like so many others on here, he want to latch onto "Mordern Times" as the lynchpin to not answering the question. You got a 20 year window to name just one FBS conference that called us. :lmao:

What conference extended JSU, GRAM or SU an invite to move up to FBS in MORDERN TIMES..............last 20 years. Heck.......I'll even go 30 year back to my freshman year of 1982. I want to know so I can put all these "Where ya'll gonna go" posters to rest. And I say mordern time because talking about 1975 ain't even worth mentioning if it was that long ago.

Wow is not an answer to the so-called fact YOU threw out in cyberspace.
Are you gonna answer your own statement about JSU, SU, and Gram? :goof:

Don't get pissed at me, trying to make me look like the bad guy when those were your words about the invites..........not mine. 30 year time frame then on those invites......back to 1982.

40 year time frame.............. Back to 1972?? There are only 14 years left to go back for JSU. We didn't move up to the SWAC until 1958. Just one little FBS conference name. :noidea:

Frat, I am on the High Road (Thanks MH). I think every one makes some valid points on this. None of us on here speak for our fan base. I would hope this kind of stuff come at the various National Alumni Meetings for our schools. I know our AD is in favor of the playoffs. Now whether he will be able to convince the higher ups to move the BC back a week. Good luck with that. Especially if it pisses off the Grambling and Southern alums who do donate. I just want the conference Presidents to step out and speak on a plan one way or the other to put all this rest. We know Duer can't do nothing and neither can our ADs or Football coaches. If any move happens it will be the President's/Chancellor's decision. All of us are just bumping our gums because we either feel one way or the other. The bottom line is our leaders will tell us to show them the money and benefit of the FCS playoffs. If the folks advocating it can't show good reasons that will increase our bottom line financially. You already know what the answer is going to be. They could care less about a championship of any kind if it TAKES money out of our pocket to participate.

Just like those conferences who are moving to FBS from FCS. Somebody has presented the package of why it makes FINANCIAL sense to those Presidents of those schools to get them to buy in on moving up which will not come without a cost. But the end result will be more revenue than staying FCS. They could care less about competing. Sure they want to win. But they get judged on decisions that make their respective schools prosper across the board. Us Fans don't matter. We just go along for the ride wherever it may take us. LOL.

 come on man. dont leave me hanging on this cause you done pissed me off now. jsu had a chance to leave the swac. make a move up to FBS years ago and turned it down? bring me that jsu presidents head. :goof:

I just don't think that it would be a bad thing for at least two (preferably 3) schools to break away from the conference. That way the 9 game mandate is a moot point. If it's Jackson State, Southern can just schedule them every year in a non conference match-up. If we can get 3 schools to leave we would have better schedule opportunities. However, I don't see much changing and it is all a pipe dream. Now the three schools I would prefer leaving or moving to another conference are Prairie View, Mississippi Valley and Alabama A&M. If Jackson State leaves, I would have to flip a coin on whether I would want A&M or PV to stay. The reason is PV don't have football facilities and A&M don't have a formidable baseball and track program.

Frat no matter how you look at it. In the grand scheme of things is nobody cares about the FCS football level. That's what I am saying. Everybody wants to be FBS. Not everybody can be of course. But there is no prestige being the FCS champion other than beating your chest either about beating teams on the FCS level. The average person only cares who won the FBS title. Even grads of FCS schools align themselves with their state FBS programs like they went there. That's why certain schools have made plans to leave FCS for FBS.

I am not saying not to play them folks. But as I have said, you can't just move dates around/cancel the SCG to get the auto bid and think that's all we need to do as a conference without having a PLAN on how you will win in those playoffs once you get there. That means you can't play a 9 game schedule. Probably need a 7 game schedule in conference and you better play 3 games against tough FCS foes and maybe one D2 or a money FBS game for your OOC game. You better stop over paying our HBCU coaches and make sure the supporting staff is compensated instead of just one guy. You also better open the doors up to recruiting more than just black kids to play on our teams.

We have examples already on HBCUs who supposed to be more progressive than us Frat. You have Tenn State who has probably as big or bigger budget as any SWAC school. Been playing in the OVC for years now. You would think they would have won something or been to many playoffs. Same for the MEAC. I say this to say that nobody has developed a plan to win these games. Only developed a plan to participate. You can't win like that. You have to hire a coach who can take you to the promised land and we will never do it the way we hire.

There is no plan MEAC or SWAC wise to dominate FCS football. All folks want to do is go and say hey I tried. Fugg that. If you going to go. You better have the horses and coaching to win that thing. Not just show up and get beat 45-7 every year.

AMEN! Truth told, there are some here that just can't see it, or don't want to admit to what you said is the truth!

o the 2012 College Football Regular Season has wrapped up and things were just grand...

Right?

Well it depends on how one looks at it...

But the bottom line is Attendance,Revenue and Wins.

And the initial numbers coming out are not looking too pretty for the bottom lines of most Athletic Departments...

For the second straight season, overall attendance at College Football Games dropped coming in at an average of 45,274 per game in 2012.

That number is at its lowest mark since 2003 and has declined 3% since peaking in 2008 at 46,739.

Now this is not trying to say the game is in dissary and everyone needs to panic...

Combined there were still more than 35 million folks that attended a college game this season according to the NCAA.

I definitely think we need to eliminate the SCG and crown the regular season champ (imo). Teams that are available for an "at large" bid should be given the opportunity to compete in the FCS.

The team that gets into it and wins will score major recruiting props. Say what you will but for the most part, those FCS conferences are getting better overall talent than we are...at least based on what I have seen watching their games. I realize that the FCS teams I am seeing are usually their conference champs. We can bash the MEAC and say "the playoffs hasn't helped the MEAC", but when you look at the overall record of the SWAC-MEAC challenge and the head to head records even outside the "Matchup", I think they have the edge. Once upon a time we owned the MEAC... sadly, they have also passed us by. I don't know if it's because of our 9 game isolation mandate or non-playoff participation, but we have fallen waaaaay off!

With all due respect to everyone where are all these so-called superior recruits that the teams who win the FCS playoff disappearing to?

Can anybody name three right of the top of your heads that are playing at the next level?

This same argument was given by the MEAC fans for the last decade and a half saying that just participating and winning a couple of game would boost them head and shoulders above the SWAC.

Well that didn't happen did it?

ASU, GSU, JSU and UAPB all have been doing well in recruiting two and three star athletes and putting them in the league for the most part.

Hell Big Worm hadn't been on the job a year yet and he's done a hell of a job recruiting these type of players.

So again can somebody please show some actual facts to support that position that the schools who participate in the playoffs get superior athletes?

The truth of the matter is coaching is and has always been the reason we've been beaten or more precisely the reason JSU have been beaten when playing in the playoffs even when it was clear they had the SUPERIOR athletes.

The SWAC and people who support are like most chicks now a days they have an inflated self confidence about themselves for no apparent reason....In other words the SWAC is BASIC...

Urban Meaning

BASIC- 'basic' is a term used to describe someone with attributes of idiocy, foolishness and child-like behavior. A 'basic' commonly has little to no intelligence, and struggles to break social barriers. A 'basic' often reverts to exaggeration and deceit to over come these social barriers and gain a mild sense of acceptance.
