David Oyelowo is next up to play James Bond… after snaring the role in a forthcoming audiobook.

The star of ‘Selma’, in which he played Martin Luther King Jr, was personally invited to take on the part by the estate of Ian Fleming, the creator of 007.

“I am officially the only person on planet Earth who can legitimately say: ‘I am the new James Bond’ – even saying that name is the cinematic equivalent of doing the ‘to be or not to be’ speech,” said Oyelowo of his appointment.

Sorry but as a BOND franchise watcher since rodger moore, this is clucked up. Happy for the brother but this is not gonna work for these movies.

007 is stiff upper lip Brit and white. This new bond should have been made 008 if they wanted to go in a new direction.

As a guy who has read the books and has seen every Bond movie this is big especially crossing racial lines. Sean Connery said some years ago that it is time to cross the racial boundary with the franchise. I just pray he is not a Timothy Dalton or George Lazenby. I think Lazenby resented not being in more movies but he was merely a replacement for Sean Connery. If I'm not mistaken Connery came back for one more after Lazenby because of some contract disputes.
 
I will check it out. It will be interesting to see where they take the story. I have my doubts but I will at least buy a ticket out of black pride. I am a Bond fan also. My favorite was “A View to a Kill.” I even brought the Soundtrack and became a Duran Duran fan. I still play the song to this day, drives my wife crazy. She calls it “that dam into the fire shyt you be listening to” lol.
 
This is only for the audiobook which has been voiced by a black man before. I agree that Idris would be better if they decided to go that direction on film.

I'm torn on this. I'd LOVE to see idris in this role. However, I'm kinda like what Jstate said a while back in this thread, I'm just used to Bond being a certain way. BUT..........I'd love to see Idris do it. I think he's the only black Brit that can pull it off........he's tough, smooth and could definitely pull it off with no problem. Unfortunately I'd hate to read all the racist bullsh-- that comes with it.

I know that question wasn't for me but I'll throw my answer in the hat. I think he could face some of the stupid racist backlash that the guy that played the black storm trooper did in the new Star Wars series. People are stupid like that.
 
Folks were WILLING to OPENLY encourage shoot up theaters showing Star War TFA & Fantastic Four (2015) over black guys in roles that THEY did not approve of.
On the RUMOR of a still unnamed black actor begin named DR Who-he got DEATH THREATS. He would have replaced David Tennant instead of Matt Smith.
Lets not forget the movement to give Black Panther low ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

What do you think they will want to do to a black James Bond? Lets not forget all the pro-blacks who will go off along with those who support white supremacists.

I think it is both. Me personally, I am not a fan of Idris Elba. The brother bores me to tears. And that's in just about everything I see him in (including his tv show Luther). Now, I know some of yall think he is the second coming.

He will definitely face a backlash. But I really don't think Elba playing Bond will ever come to pass.

Your point is well taken. I have to ask myself, how would I react if a new John Shaft movie was made and a white actor was casted as Shaft.
