The ATKINS Diet.

I know that Subway has some type of Akins sandwich.

I need all the carbs I can get, so I'm on NOT TYPE OF DIET. I am probably 10lbs heavier than I was when i was in college 14 years ago. I'm just one of those skinny people that will always be skinny. I like to call myself LEAN since I workout. There is a difference between SKINNY and LEAN (I think).

Sperm, I was in Subway yesterday morning for breakfast and I saw that "sandwich". Its a subway wrap. The wrap is made up of like a corn tortilla substance. It looks good.

Lean is cool, if that is what you want. The Atkins diet will not help you......unless you want the "Pokey Look". If not, I would advise against it. If you want to get a more "fuller" look with your body, then Lift heavier, and add more protein (shakes, red meats, beans, peanut butters, seeds, etc etc). Dont overdose on red meat and peanute butter, but gradually add it to your workout plan.

I have a gain 15-20lbs plan that I have been following and I have gained 9lbs of muscule in 5 weeks. Ill be happy to share it with you.

The thing about carbs is that after you eat them you a have 2 HOUR window to burn the sugar off.

If you don't exercise within that 2 HOUR window then the sugar from the carb breakdown will turn to FAT. If you work in a office and eat carbs at breakfeast and lunch and don't work out within that 2 HOUR window, then the obvious will happen. MO FAT! AND MO FAT.

Next you go home after work and eat some carbs like rice, cornbread, a sandwich or a hamburger and if you don't work out within that 2 HOUR window. Well guess what? MO FAT! AND MO FAT.

That's why athletes can eat a high carb meal because they will play a game or work out during a practice after they eat.

If you know you are not going to work out after the 2 hours you eat, then just cut back on your carbs. You don't have to eliminate it completely, just cut back on the PORTION.

PBLA: You are exactly right. However, diets like this were used for people who were obese and requiring heart surgery. They'd quickly lose weight just so they could SURVIVE the surgery. The Mayo diet is one they use also.

Read and like anything else...understand for yourself and consult with your physicia

Mr. Louis Aronne, an obesity specialist at New York Presbyterian Hospital and president-elect of the North American Association For The Study Of Obesity, tells The Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen the problem is people don?t really read the Atkins book. They just think they can eat all the fat they want throughout the diet, but that is not the casete.

No two bodies are alike. You certainly can't eat all you want of anything...even on a so called balanced meal. What's considered balanced for some as in the food groups that we've grown up on...is considered hazardous to others. You have to know your body...what's good for it and what's not. You may be able to eat 10 dinner rolls and someone else only a half of one. Anyone who has read the book knows that Atkins is not harmful when approached as instructed to get a healthier you.
You don't give up anything...you eat what you want in moderation and eat whole wheat/grain breads, rice ...etc...
doesn't mean you can't have that yeast roll ever...just not on a daily basis. My advice. Read the book and understand for yourself.

I stand corrected.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Nutrition expert and author Dr. Robert Atkins, creator of the high-protein/low-carbohydrate "Atkins Diet," was released Wednesday from hospital care and is resting well after his heart stopped, a condition called cardiac arrest.

Atkins was waiting for breakfast at a restaurant near his office last Thursday in Manhattan when he went into cardiac arrest. He was quickly revived by an associate and taken to the New York Weill Cornell Medical Center.

The episode was caused by cardiomyopathy, a condition in which the heart's ability to pump blood is weakened because of enlargement, thickening or stiffening of the heart muscle.

In Atkins' case, cardiomyopathy was caused by an infection that spread to his heart muscle.

<b>"I have had cardiomyopathy, which is a non-coronary condition and is in no way related to diet," Atkins said in a statement. </b>

A statement by The Atkins Companies also said the hot weather in New York may have been a factor in the cardiac arrest. Temperatures last week in New York were in the 90s.

"We have been treating this condition, cardiomyopathy, for almost two years," said Patrick Fratellone, Atkins' personal physician and cardiologist. "Clearly, his own nutritional protocols have left him, at the age of 71, with an extraordinarily healthy cardiovascular system."

Atkins told CNN, "I want the public to know the truth, not every condition affecting the heart comes from a blockage." He said "a controlled carbohydrate lifestyle really prevents risk factors for heart disease."

Doctors have checked for blockages, Atkins said, "and I don't have any."

Dr. Clyde Yancy, a cardiologist at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and a member of the American Heart Association's national board of directors, said: "Despite the obvious irony, I believe there is a total disconnect between the cardiac arrest and the health approach he (Atkins) popularizes."

Atkins' doctors have advised him to curtail his travel plans for the next 30 days as a precaution, but Atkins hopes to return to his work within the next week or so.

Paul Wolff, chief executive officer of The Atkins Companies, said: "Up until today, this has been a personal and private family matter for Atkins. It is unfortunate for the family that this has not remained so."

I believe the Dr. Yancy in that article is from Baton Roude.

I went on Atkin's just long enough to get under 300 lbs. I was going along fine until I got to about 270 lbs (which took about a month). I lost the next 20 lbs through careful dieting and exercise (took about 3 months). I was well on my way to about 225 lbs. when some little pencil neck punk in Y decided to size me up one day because I he thought I had got a hold of some bad pudding and was on the way out. After I took him to school, I realized that losing weight too fast gets these Oscar Meyer's out there to thinking its their lucky day.

I hurried up and bulked back up to about 260 lbs, but I use Atkins every now and then to keep myself in check when I have a little to much Killian's Irish Red and Sonny's Feast for Four.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Dr. Robert Atkins, creator of the high-protein, low-carbohydrate Atkins Diet, died Thursday after an accidental fall on April 8 left him comatose.

Atkins, 72, was rushed to New York Weill Cornell Medical Center by his colleague, Dr. Keith Berkowitz, where surgeons removed a blood clot to relieve pressure in his brain on April 9.

Atkins slipped on an icy sidewalk outside his New York office.

In April 2002, Atkins was hospitalized after he went into cardiac arrest, which he said in a statement was "in no way related to diet."

He is credited with revolutionizing the diet world with his theory that you can lose weight by eating fat, and his followers hailed him as a pioneer. His critics accused him of selling a dangerous idea, but Atkins dismissed their claims.

He is survived by his wife, Veronica, and his mother, Norma.

Personally, I'm doing Weight Watchers, and I've lost 164.8 lbs since March 24, 2003. But, I also workout 5 days a week and drank 2 gallons of water daily. You just have to do what works for you.

 WOW MasterRattler that is fantastic! I am doing Weight Watchers too and having MUCH success!

You are my hero!!!

Thanks Seeing Spots,
How long have you been on? I will tell you how I do it, I never eat activity or flex points and since I don't like to go to bed hungry I usually have a small breakfast and lunch, which is no more than 9 points total then I have the remaining points for dinner. Actually, I probably do eat flex points because I weigh-in Saturday morning @ 8:00, and after weigh-in and working out, I don't count points all day and I eat whatever I want. I don't go overboard, but I will go to nice restuarant for dinner or have some beers while watching the game.

Also, I work out at the Gym 1.5 hours every day except Wednesday & Friday, and as mentioned earlier I try to drink 2 gallons of water a day, but I do get in at least 200oz everyday .

BF, I will welcome anything you have to tell me. I will tell you that HEAVY for me and HEAVY for you are 2 different things. Also, when I eat more protein, I have a problem with my BM (It HURTS). I've tried more water in my diet, but I hear that water can make you lose weight. I've started a spreadsheet of my workout regiment. I can e-mail it to you and take a look and let me know what you think.
