White House mistakenly sends Trump-Ukraine talking points to Democrats

:lmao:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...70aa52-dfb2-11e9-b199-f638bf2c340f_story.html

In the hours after the release Wednesday of the rough transcript of President Trump’s July phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the White House circulated an email with proposed talking points for Trump’s defenders.

Unfortunately for the White House, the email was mistakenly sent to not only Republicans but also Democratic lawmakers and their staff.

The message, titled, “What you need to know: President Trump’s call with President Zelenskyy,” was quickly recalled — but not before Democrats took to Twitter to ridicule the White House over the error.

Justice Department ignored additional allegations when considering if complaint could be shared with Congress

Washington (CNN)The Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel essentially ignored additional allegations from the whistleblower outside the July 25 Trump-Zelensky call when it determined his complaint should be kept in-house, according to a newly unsealed memo from the department's policy office.

Steven Engel of the Office of Legal Counsel was tasked to interpret only whether the whistleblower complaint was indeed an "urgent concern" under the law. The Office of Legal Counsel, the first unit within the Justice Department to learn of the whistleblower's complaint, decided it was not of urgent concern.
The OLC's acknowledgement of the other allegations are in two footnotes in the now-declassified September 3 opinion advising the Director of National Intelligence what to do about the complaint. The binding advice was to keep the whistleblower complaint within the Justice Department for a possible criminal probe instead of sending it to Congress in early September.

A complaint against President Donald Trump concerning his interactions with the Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky was released with few redactions. It offers a detailed look at concerns from a government official that Trump has abused his office by soliciting “interference” from a foreign country in the 2020 presidential campaign — specifically, that he asked for help digging up damaging material on a leading Democratic rival, former Vice President Joe Biden — and that White House officials tried to cover it up. Read the latest on the complaint. Below is a line-by-line examination of the allegations.

Trump publicly urges China, Ukraine to investigate Bidens amid impeachment inquiry .

Despite Trump's accusations of corruption, there has been no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the former vice president or his son.

President Donald Trump said Thursday the Chinese government should investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden over the latter’s involvement with an investment fund that raised money in the country.

Trump, however, added that he had not actually asked anyone in China to investigate the matter.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump said that, “China should start an investigation into the Bidens.”

“What happened in China is just about as bad as what happened with Ukraine,” Trump said.

When asked a moment later whether he had asked China to investigate the Bidens, Trump replied, “I haven’t.”

“But it's certainly something we could start thinking about,” he said. “The guy got kicked out of the Navy and all of the sudden he’s getting billions of dollars.

Trump order denies visas to immigrants who can't pay for health care
:read:

Washington — In its latest , the Trump administration announced Friday it is planning to reject visa applications from immigrants the government determines will not be able to pay for health insurance or cover health care costs in the U.S. The new requirement is set to go into effect November 3.

In a late-night proclamation signed by President Trump, the White House said the government will only accept immigrant visa petitions made abroad if the applicants demonstrate that they will have the ability to secure health insurance within a month of their arrival in the U.S. If that's not possible, then petitioners would need to prove they have the financial resources to pay "reasonably foreseeable medical costs" — a standard not defined in the order.

The order alleges U.S. hospitals and health care providers are not being reimbursed for treating those who are uninsured. "The costs associated with this care are passed on to the American people in the form of higher taxes, higher premiums, and higher fees for medical services," the order claims.

According to the order, the new requirement will not apply to people who already hold immigrant visas, asylum seekers, refugees, children of U.S. citizens living overseas or holders of special visas for Iraqi and Afghan nationals who helped U.S. forces in those countries.

There’s no way that Mike Pompeo actually venerates Donald Trump. I doubt he even likes the president much.

Pompeo graduated first in his class at West Point decades ago, a feat that suggests enormous reserves of discipline, a profound respect for tradition and a talent for self-effacement when the circumstances warrant it. Trump possesses none of those qualities.

Pompeo is an evangelical Christian, steeped in the very dictums that Trump has spent a lifetime mocking with both his words and his deeds. And Pompeo has long believed in the importance of American military intervention abroad, the kind of activist role that Trump railed against during his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.

In fact Pompeo, who was then a congressman from Kansas, supported Marco Rubio — and publicly praised him, while disparaging Trump, just before the state’s Republican caucus in March 2016. As Susan Glasser of The New Yorker recalled in an excellent recent profile of Pompeo, he sounded an alarm that Trump would be “an authoritarian president who ignored our Constitution.” He urged Republicans to come to their senses and resist the lure of the surging Trump campaign. “It’s time,” he said, “to turn down the lights on the circus.”

But the lights continued to burn bright, so Pompeo just put on a clown suit, put away his ethics and finagled a big role under the Big Top.

Trump makes way for Turkey operation against Kurds in Syria

View: https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-middle-east-49965076/us-troops-leave-syria-border-ahead-of-turkish-offensive

The US says it is stepping aside for an imminent Turkish operation against Kurdish-led forces within Syria that have until now been a key US ally.

Kurdish militias played a major role in defeating the Islamic State (IS) group, but Turkey regards them as terrorists.

The US - which has hundreds of troops in north-eastern Syria - has begun to withdraw them from border areas.

The main Kurdish-led force has condemned the pullout and accused the US of abandoning its fighters.

In January, President Trump threatened to "devastate Turkey economically" if it attacked Kurdish forces.

Trump stopped the US ambassador who texted “Call me” in Ukraine exchange from testifying

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-poli...bassador-testimony-impeachment-inquiry-schiff

Ambassador Gordon Sondland was part of a text chain in which a diplomat wrote, “I think it’s crazy to withhold security assistance for help with a political campaign.”

Gordon Sondland, the US ambassador to the European Union and a critical figure in the Trump-Ukraine controversy, was set to testify before Congress Tuesday — but hours before that testimony was to begin, the Trump administration canceled it.

“Ambassador Sondland is profoundly disappointed that he will not be able to testify today,” Sondland’s lawyer, Robert Luskin, said in a statement. “Ambassador Sondland believes strongly that he acted at all times in the best interests of the United States, and he stands ready to answer the committee’s questions fully and truthfully.”

That order seemingly came straight from the top: Shortly after Sondland’s lawyer announced the State Department had forbidden his client from attending the closed-door session with House Democrats, President Donald Trump confirmed he did not want Sondland to testify. He blamed Democrats for the decision, writing on Twitter he would have allowed it if he thought the process was fair.

Trump On Turkey: 'I Have A Little Conflict Of Interest ... It's Called Trump Towers'

https://www.yahoo.com/huffpost/conflict-of-interest-donald-trump-syria-kurds-turkey-235239996.html

As even Republican lawmakers and foreign policy experts reel over Donald Trump’s unilateral decision to abandon Kurdish allies to an assault from Turkey in Syria, the president himself apparently has an explanation: “I have a little conflict of interest” concerning Turkey.

Trump made the comment in a Breitbart News interview in December 2015 during his presidential campaign when asked how he would handle Turkey and Syria.

“I have a little conflict of interest ’cause I have a major, major building in Istanbul,” Trump boasted in response. “It’s a tremendously successful job. It’s called Trump Towers — two towers, instead of one, not the usual one; it’s two. And I’ve gotten to know Turkey very well. They’re amazing people, they’re incredible people. They have a strong leader.”

He said then that the situation was “complicated,” adding, “I thrive on complicated.” Trump did not reveal what he would do in the region if he were to become commander in chief.

Trump still profits from Trump Towers in Istanbul, and the “strong leader” then was the same as now: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Check these guys plane tickets.....I bet they were head to the Ukraine.

(CNN)Two associates of Rudy Giuliani connected to efforts to dig up dirt in Ukraine on Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden have been arrested and indicted on criminal charges for allegedly funneling foreign money into US elections.

The charges against the men suggest Giuliani's push on Ukraine and President Donald Trump's receptiveness to it had ties to an illegal effort to influence US politics and policy using foreign funds. The indictment involves two people central to the impeachment inquiry in the House.

The two Giuliani-linked defendants, Igor Fruman and Lev Parnas, were detained at Dulles International Airport outside of Washington on Wednesday and are scheduled to appear in court in Virginia at 2 p.m. ET Thursday.

Trump Has Already Lost His Pricey China Trade War, Paul Krugman Warns .

Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman warned Sunday that President Donald Trump is handing China what it wants as the nations a trade war that has cost Americans billions of dollars.

“However Trump may try to spin this, he lost,” Krugman, a columnist for The New York Times, explained in a series of tweets. China learned, as did North Korea, that “Trump talks loudly but carries a small stick, and can be rolled,” he noted.

Going in to the end of the year, Trump is going to be claiming victory in his trade war. The truth is that there are almost never winners in trade wars — but there are losers. And however Trump may try to spin this, he lost 1/

Trump has declared that the U.S. is close to reaching a “Phase One” agreement with China to settle his trade war. The deal is not yet finalized, nor have details been released.

But Krugman argues that China “hung tough” and is “basically ending up” where it started — buying American agricultural products while continuing to sell “increasingly sophisticated” manufactured goods to the U.S.
