McNeese State will resume its football schedule Saturday, Oct. 8 against Texas Southern on the campus of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.

Kickoff will be 3 p.m. and there will be only one admission charge, $15 a ticket. Northwestern State will handle all game management.

The Cowboys are 1-1 on the season but have had three games canceled due to hurricanes, Katrina and Rita. Also, McNeese has not played a game since losing to Southern Mississippi 48-20 on Sept. 17. The team's victory has been a 23-20 decision over Georgia Southern. Games canceled have been those with Southern, Northwestern Oklahoma State and Southern Utah, all home outings.

Hurricane Rita forced the closure of McNeese which is expected to be closed for several more weeks. The Cowboys will relocate on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond on Monday and will have their first practice on Tuesday.

"This game will allow our young men an opportunity to get in a contest before we begin conference play," McNeese athletic director Sonny Watkins said in announcing the game with Texas Southern. "We appreciate the help that Northwestern State has given us in making this game come about."

McNeese head coach Tommy Tate had a meeting with his coaching staff on Saturday and he and all Cowboy personnel will leave at 1 p.m. on Monday for Hammond.

"We are thankful of the opportunity to get our season going again," Tate said. "We appreciate the support of Southeastern Louisiana, Northwestern State and Texas Southern in that respect."

The Cowboys will open Southland Conference play on Oct. 15 against Stephen F.Austin. The game was to have been a home outing for the Pokes but other arrangements are now being studied and will be announced soon.

I don't know if this is good or bad. I can easily see TxSU coming out of this game with alot of uneeded injuries.

They may also win this game, don't go in as a defeated team, play the game.

I just like the fact that two teams wanted to play a game, and made it happen. Some of us need to grasp this concept.

Exactly! We are just happy to have the opportunity to play again! :nod2:

If that's the way you feel, then don't field a team.

Injuries are part of the game.

Now, if they were playing USC or Miami, I would say it was a bad risk but not Mcneese

With one week's preparation, I wouldn't expect more than 500 people there.

I think you'll be surprised.

I'd say there'll be 2-3,000 McFans there, plus some NSU fans that don't make the trip to Huntsville.

I hope you're right. Will you all be tailgating?

J4L's right. I've already missed as many SU games this year (2) as the previous two combined.

Coincidentally, the Jags are 1-3 in those games. I don't plan on missing any more this year...lol

CLeb, I won't be in Natchitoches, but I can guarantee that Mc72 and many of the geauxcowboys crew will be there. They always like meeting and socializing with the other team's fans.

Some of those guys post here every so often so they may tell you where they'll be, but just look for the GC tent. I'm sure they're ready for some partying after the last several days.

I guess that your super powers of deductive reasoning have led you to that assumption.... :goof:

Keep...nose...SU/grown folks bizness. :smug2:

Way to go Texas Southern. Show McNeese that not all SWAC teams are avoiding them...just one.

Common open date....how about tentatively scheduling the game for Dec 3rd in case McNeese doesnt make the playoffs.
