Talk about embarrassing your child to get them RIGHT

Beating a child is not always the correct option. This child will remember this way more then beating her. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I have mixed feelings about this.

One on hand, one of the reasons I didn't act up in public was my father would always say "if you embarrass me, I'm going to embarrass you". He never did, but I believed him and never did anything to embarrass him or my mother. I do think my "act right" was due to fear of an ass-whipping more than fear that he would actually embarrass me though.

On the other, my mother was very active at my school as a parent. Active in PTA and other events. She was one of the few parents my school could depend on to support school events. Another reason I never acted up.

But, my parents are not "hood". Are not ghetto. I'm not sure coming to the school and being ghetto is a way to keep your child from being ghetto. I was actually proud of my mother's participation at school as she always presented herself well. I guess what I'm saying is that there are positive ways to encourage or reinforce good behavior in your child by being an involved parent.

I'm not sure my mom showing up with blonde hair, facial piercings, talking slang and interrupting school activities would have had the desired effect on me.

Shame and embarrassment are definitely tools that are used to influence behavior, but I believe they can backfire and that there are better tools available.

My mom did the same thing when I was in the 8th grade... Except without the blonde hair, camera and abrasiveness.

Grades started slipping in summer school... mom spent the next six weeks in class with me. Couldn't help but do well when she sat next to me every. Single. Day.

I'd say this mom meant well. A little extreme for some maybe, but she meant well.

I would act right in school just to keep from having to let anyone in school know that was my momma. That part in itself was embarrassing enough.

I didn't have a problem with what the mom did. She had to prove a point to hopefully make her daughter act right. I always tell my son that if he has a bad day and the teacher calls me that I will come to his class and spank him in front of the teacher and his friends in class. Sometimes you have to put fear into your kids. Not abuse but fear to get them to do what they are supposed to do.

That's a mama that cares. She could easily be up there cussing out the teacher for lying on her daughter, who couldn't possibly be acting up in class. Instead, she showing daughter that there will be consequences and repercussions to her bad behavior.

On another note, I really don't give these parents credit for using the internet to make points. I mean do you really need to post a video of you doing something like on ratchet azz worldstarhiphop of all places? Pretty sure she could've come up with something better than that. Hell my pops came to the school and made the teacher put my desk by the teacher's in class once but there wasn't a need to film it and put it online or post it in the newspapers lol. And on top of that, you give your daughters name AND the school she goes to to the whole world. Yea, that's definitely smart.

Do what works for your child...it is YOURS TO RAISE. But this crap would NOT have worked with me, in fact I would have laughed at my mom if she came up there like that lmaoooo. I wasn't a bad kid anyway, and my mom did not have the luxury of missing work to harass me in class lol, she was too busy getting paid. But judging by the reaction of the kid when mom said, "facebook" that did it right there :lmao:

She posted it on FB. It ended up on WSHH after that but usually the folks who send stuff to WSHH aren't the ones who initially posted the video.

Sometimes parents can be extreme. In this instance, I'm not sure it is that bad. There was this guy in my neighborhood growing up. And when he did something wrong, his grandmother would bring him in front of the neighborhood kids and give him a whipping in front of everybody. This was just wrong and she did it several times. She use to whip him with these little car race track, IMHO that was abuse. Strange enough, she would buy him anything he wanted and he always had more than anyone else in the neighborhood. That was some strange love....
