In one short year, it seems that the SWAC West has abdicated it's throne as the stronger division in the SWAC.
For instance, Bama State defeated PV on the road. Bama State defeated PB. AAMU defeated SU. It seems that in 2010 the East is the stronger of the two.

Yeah, we know Grambling has won a few games, but that's basically it. Texas Southern defeated AAMU, but turned around and lost to Tuskegee.
JSU, Alcorn, Bama State and even AAMU have a shot at the East.
No one in the West has any chance of beating out Grambling.

No smack..but if you shifted Gram over to the East and rescheduled games accordingly, the same thing could be said. I really think PV has a legit chance at beating the remaining East Division teams provided some key injuries issues can be addressed. I think they need to sit Babers or use him on 3rd downs only and run the bigger/healthier back until that ankle gets better.

PV will not be able to outscore JSU and they definitely don't have the running game Grambling had when they won by only six seconds.

Aye bruh! Don't tell em anything. Rest assured that PV will finish the season at 8-3. :read: Considering where we've come from, I would call that a damned good season.

The power of the conference is still in the West. The top three teams in the West (Gram, PV, sTu) can and will be any of the East teams. It's just sad that we were "snake-bitten" by that dayum Bama State team. :emlaugh: Can't let a team thats hungry hang around throughout the whole game. Gotta put em to sleep early!

*Somehow, some way, this thread will turn into a smack thread* #smgdh

For the sake of this having the possibility to be a good thread, I won't even comment on this....:smh:

Jay, be for real man! The game is 60 minutes long.

Who has JSU beaten in the West? BTW you will know who had the strongest side by December.

I tell you what, if Gram over looks us in Normal, they will be in for an azz kicking. This is the SWAC, ain't no one unbeatable. Don't be surprised this weekend when things don't go as many as you think it will.

Nor will the JSU defense pose the obstacle to their run game as Grambling's did...also factor in that both KJ Black and Babers will have four more weeks to heal up. Their schedule prior to playing yall is Valley, Pine Bluff, Lincoln, and Southern. Not to put down on any of those but that's not exactly a daunting schedule of games so they might not have to use either of those guys extensively.

I observed us against both teams and to be honest PV has the better defense of the two and their receivers seem just as capable. The margin of victory should have been about the same...granted yall came back and made it close late, but that was more due to a bobbled fumble inside the 5 that would have made it 35-14. PV stopped us defensively... we ran up and down the field on yall all night.

These are fan comments... I doubt if the players even take time to read over here and those that do, it's for "entertainment" purposes only. Our staff doesn't disrespect folks, not in terms of our level of preparation. Yall gonna be alright at A&M (I really believe that...yall ain't as bad as you looked against TxSU nor as good as you looked against SU)...but the bottom line is that we (Team, not fans) don't look down at anyone on the schedule. All we do is Win, Win!!!!

Man, you crazy... the only impressive win the East has over the West is AL State's win at Prairie View. SU hasn't beaten anybody, and hell, PVU might even be suspect.

How can you overlook Grambling beating ya'll or TXSO spankin us in Houston? The East might be more competitive, but it definitely doesn't isn't the power division. :shame:

We can start talkin bout a powershift when the east wins consecutive championships.

Sorry to bring your hopes down but Grambling overlooks no one, we always have the target on our backs and know we have to come to play every weekend. Don't allow your win over SU give you false hope. When you have a great coaching staff like we do they wouldn't dare overlook anyone but just know yall azz about to be smashed.

That remains to be seen and I'm more than confident we will play much better defensively down the stretch. Its still too early in the season to call but as is RIGHT now the East is playing better Football right now (as a whole). But F^ck all this East and West isht, all I know is whoever lines up in front of us better be ready and if not it will get Pretty ugly real quick. As personnel gets shifted around definsively and new schemes and packages get implemented to stop the run (because we can stop the pass) I know we will be a pretty hard team for anyone to beat. Not worried about the offense because we can score and I like the fact that THEY (offense) feel like they can do it Every possession. The new defensive schemes looked pretty good but that was against Valley. Ill make an assessment later about them on down the line when we play a strong running team.

As of Right now and I guess this is what Jayrob was talking about when he started this topic: If I had to rank teams based on the level they are playing at right now, It would be GSU, JSU, Alcorn, Bama St (since they beat both PV and PB), PV, PB, TXSU, AAMU, SU, MVSU. The top 4 teams are playing some really decent football (comfortable but no where near content). The rest are either still struggling to find those players to fill holes and develop an identity or the coaching just sucks and for some both.

You didn't say that to some of your fellow PV-ers when they made excuses about Grambling running up the score late in the fourth quarter. The game is four quarters, that's why I mentioned six seconds.

I know Grambling has a lot of games yet on our schedule and we can't afford to slip against any of them...We have talent but we win off playing football without making lots of mistakes. Mistakes kill you on any level, if you have overwhelming talent, you might can overcome it. But it the teams are close to being equal...it often makes the difference.

We're still breaking in a True Freshman qb...but the good thing is that he seems to be coachable, knowledgeable, and very capable. He's not just some little bitty dude that's getting by off a fluke... he's legit. I saw a PV db (Ellis Moses) bait him into a pick...bet he'll never get fooled like that again.

Uhhh, bull dawg, as of now, the West is not stronger than the East. Bama State beat your second and third best team, in PV and PB. Alcorn beat Bama State and beat them handily.
As of now, the East is playing better ball.

JSU more than likely will run through the West, but like somebody said, we can't take any team for granted.

Come on MB, don't be a homer. A couple of days ago, you boldly stated that JSU and Gramps would run the table on the rest of our schedules. Why you're backtracking now is beyond me.

As far as you running up and down the field on us, you failed to mention that we passed up and down the field on you. You also failed to mention that we came within six seconds of beating you.

We all know that Warren won't run for 256 yards if we meet again, but it's highly probable that JSU will pass for more than 350 yards on your defense again.

No you won't... And I still think you can run the table. But I also think that you, us, and everyone else in the league can be beaten. Grambling is the best team in the conference but we still have to prove it on the field. I'm not sure if you're better than PV, Alcorn, Bama State, A&M or any of the other schools you play... I think so, but I'm not sure. But then how objective am I... I only saw Therriault against us and he was good. But will he always be good, and will he always be able to make some of the throws and not get them picked. You talk about stopping Warren, but I've seen qb's go south in their game waaay more often than a rb. Plus Warren as Walker to help him and an offensive line that's the key...they block and Warren runs. But a qb can be off a hair in his reads, confused in his progressions and knocked on his azz enuff to be less than effective. Remember that yall are only good if he's good...really!

I said that any team can be beat, but I also believe that JSU has already played it's three toughest games up til now. That was the barometer.

Comegy usually starts off slow, but for some reason, he's gotten off to a 3-1 start and not a 1-3 start. When you look at his team's history, that says a lot about the kind of year his team will have.

Plus, our young defense is getting better and they're learning to play with each other. The offense will also continue to improve.....if that's even possible. Comegy knows he must produce, and I believe he will.

Disclaimer: NO SMACK INTENDED!

Do you really think so? You say, "It seems that in 2010 the East is the stronger of the two", but based on what? No jokes, seriously, the ONLY school in the East that is STRONG is Alabama State, being that they have won 3 out of 4 CONFERENCE GAMES!

Fist bolded statement:

I agree, it is still TOO EARLY in the season to determine. As for the East playing better f/ball, I can somewhat agree on that, and my reasoning behind that is because one school in the East, Alabama State, is carrying the East right now. If, and I do mean IF the East is or does become the stronger of the 2, a large part of that will be because of the Hornets.

Second bolded statement:

If how the stronger of the 2 Divisions is based on how each is playing ball right now, it is still too early to determine (in my personal opinion). But if you base this on conference play, which is the route I go, then it's still too early to determine. UAPB, for example, has only played one conference game, and while we did lose to the Hornets, we still have a chance to prove ourselves. Our remaining schedule is Southern, Prairie View, Alabama A&M, Alcorn, Grambling, MVSU, Jackson, and TXSU; tough schedule, but we do have a chance, and I'ma be optimistic. And unless I'm mistaken, most of us (SWAC schools) have schedules that look similar. In other words, based on conference play, it's still too early to determine.........unless you're Alabama State, which is currently carrying the East. Yes, Jackson State won their first 2 games, but they were non-conference. Yes, Southern won their first game, but that game, too, was non-conference, and they lost to UAM, but again, non-conference.

Third bolded statement:

Again, I somewhat agree. Remember, most of us (SWAC schools) made some major changes in our coaching staff.......and whether it's winning or losing, those changes are showing!

Didn't Bama State just give up 41 points to Alcorn? If that's the case, how can they be better than Alcorn?

man ain't nobody out the woods yet? Grambling has 3 more divisional games and 3 more Eastern Division games left. The thing is that all the teams in the West that remain on our schedule are still in contention within the Division. TxSU has only 1 conference loss period, but within the division...UAPB's loss is outside the Division and they shocked us last year...SU has only 1 conference loss and it's outside the division. We also have 3 East opponents to face... The same thing can be said about JSU on that side. Man, this thing is long from being over...gotta win em on the field.
