Swac Football Conference

What Conference would you want your team to join if you were fed up with the SWAC?

What Conference do you think would accept you?

:)

SunBelt conference would be more than happy to accept JSU. They currently have one 1AA football team in their conference.

OVC would make more sense... we are within 100 miles of 3 schools (Tn State, Jacksonville State, Samford)

Any of the respective local I-AA conference would accept us. They need the attendance money that we would bring. I would not leave the SWAC for any of them.

Yeah.  We somebody else besides Robert Vowels to step this conference up.

Leaving the SWAC would be the death penalty to the HBCU tradition. Now granted the SWAC needs some serious tweaking but I wouldn't trade the Black College football experience for none of the other conference's.When we recognize that we are responsible for making our institutions of higher learning better and that we collectively can achieve that. No amount of changing from the SWAC to the OVC, Sunbelt,or any pwc conference will change our bottom line. If every alum whether you finished or not contributed $500 per year (cheap) for every 2000 attendees that would generate 1 million dollars. In the history of your institution how many people would that be? Thousands and thousands, which would equate to millions and millions. So I don't buy this booshat about let's go to the Southland, or I know there are many conference's that would jump at the opportunity to have a jstate, su or gram, yea to pimp your attendance figures for their benefit. And the sad thing about it is , some are okay with it. Ante up BLACK PEOPLE!!!!!!!!

If Jackson State wanted to leave the SWAC and increased athletic funding, the Sun Belt and possibly Conference USA would be an option. I would not leave the SWAC for another I-AA conference.

Which team would that be?

Western Kentucky is in the gateway for football.

Western Kentucky football is in the gateway, but the rest of their progrms are in the SunBelt. They already have a seat waiting for them if they decide to move to 1A. Now thats a he//uva package.

blownup,

The SWAC lost its tradition a long time ago. The conference is not run very well from the SWAC front office, to ADs and to university presidents. They all continue to make bad decisions or no decisions at all. The conference is slow to market itself, slow to improve facilities, slow to spend their revenue wisely and slow to develop a plan where the conference can compete with other conferences outside of HBCUs in all of those areas. We can't get a sufficent TV deal for football, basketball, baseball or any other sport. Almost every other conference does this. (Just look at the TV deal for footballand basketball now and look at the SWAC website). I'm saying that moving to another conference would solve all the problems, but it sure would be something to look at.

subelt is a IA conference. none of their schools are IAA. jsu to c-usa, su to sunbelt along w/ grambling. alcorn? we have to stay IAA possibly southern cofnerece same for bama state.......

ideally several swac schools would leave together..hook up w/ famu, tnsu, troy and...well, I'm not even going to talk about it.

If we were to leave the SWAC, I would want for us to either join a more eastern/south-easternly conference OVC, or create us a new conference.

What traditional or should I say predominately black colleges are in a predominately white conference? Tennessee State comes to mind. I am not certain if I am correcton that one.

Years ago UAPB/AM&N left the SWAC for financial reasons and joined the AIC(Arkansas Inter Coll. Conference) It was a mess. They were treated like step children.

In this date and time do you think SWAC schools would be treated any different?

You cannot get any better than the SWAC to have the best 10 State Schools in a conference. Everybody know who the schools were that dominated the political climate of the SWAC. You all know what coaches and schools ruled the SWAC for years. We were not in the SWAC but I can assure you that a lot of us were fully aware of who ran everything in the SWAC. Times have changed for the better.

NEWSFLASH:

Western Kentucky to move up division to D1A in football. Sun Belt conference already has their seat reserved. Reported on ESPN last night.
