SWAC Football 2008: Even More Parity

With a OL that returns everyone except the center and we add more depth with transfers and a guy who was highley sought after but had to prop and we will have the holes for any runner. And we have some good potential coming in to carrry the rock. We also have a suprise who played last season. Add to that we have a fullback that can make holes. War vet Edward Lee. We really just need to solidify the backup QB spot.

WR
Gray-Starter caught two TD's against AA&M. Played all season
Carlos Simpson- Two year starter
Frost-Blocker,soft hands
Dixon Started at TE in place of frost caught first TD in the SCG.Tall and big
Mc Laurin-Leading receiver in 06 starter. RS back to play.
Then we have three backups who caught passes all season and in the SCG.
Add the Wilder kid three star
Kilaske Hunter out of Florida who was the best receiver in the spring. So
And a few more transfers.

What vital part are we missing besides QB.

Oh yeah we got some good transfers at the RB position along with a outstaning freshmen. See Gram for freshmen starting RB.

Defensively we have a solid DL with added depth. Too many LB's and DB's.

We can run all season long and mix in the pass and we are fine.

This discussion was about the West and how much Parity is in it and how strong it is. I just don't see it.

I'm gonna take a line from GR .... you listing name and positions, but it don't mean nothing.

-- At RB, you are depending on transfers and freshmen> vital spot.
-- At QB, MOST VITAL spot.
-- Your WR's sound a lot like Southern's .... high on talent, low on experience. We lost ONE guy there .... ONE.
-- And you threw your TE's in there as well .... how much damage did they do last year .... did Woody even use them?
-- Our OL only lost Trent Thomas, the TE make-shift tackle and we return three starting OL from 06 due to their grade issues last year.

I see as many questions for JSU as I do for anyone.

We lost Johnson and Johnson and Johnson(not a starter) vital as he was he didn't start. Simpson was as vital as the rest he was the guy who kept a lot of drives going. He and gray played all 12 games and Simpson has a lot of all purpose Yards. So I say we return good depth and expereince at the WR spot. Mclaurin also was a top possesions guy until he got hurt in the first game. So WR be it vital we have starters with experince and game breaker speed.

yeah RB position is questionable but we have been a RB by commitee team for the past two years. So we just have a fresh new commitee. Great line play will open up holes. You guys have no one to key on.

Now at the QB you got me. Shawiggi aint happy and that's all I'm gone say.

For UAPB, who is their QB, seriously? You say they have all this talent and no coaching, but even in their game against us, they weren't dominant at all.

Bad part is, if you combine Southern and Grambling's issues, you have my thoughts on Jackson State. I love the defense, but offensively, you enter with way too many questions in vital positions.

UAPB has Jonathan Moore. He played better than Wallace at times last year. But I believe their offensive playcalling and o-line play was bad last season. But the line was young and Mallett is good.

As for JSU, our defense is solid and we have very good depth there. On offense, we have good talent but inexperience at RB and we have experience at WR, TE, FB, and the offensive line. We just need a QB to step up.

We return Frost, Dixon, Gray, McLaurin, and Simpson and theywere ALL starters at either TE or WR. We have experience and we have about 5 more inexperienced WR's ready to play. The difference between JSU and SU is that we return talent, you don't. Trust me that when I say that we are a solid two deep. Comegy cut those who don't fit the mold bruh. He even recruited some JUCO's and cut them after the spring. Honestly, I would put my second string with Mosley at QB against Southern and I would like my chances.

Now the two brothers above this speak like they have some sense about their team, but you just blab off about starters. Hell, we all return starters. Roberts and White were starters. We have about 5 WR's as well who got playing time last year. How do you know what talent SU has?

For once, can you be real and stop acting like JSU has the end-all of players? You have questions going in just like anyone else. the main difference is that yours are mainly offensive .... ours, to be honest, are split like you said. All of our offensive positions have depth, unlike last year. To me, defensive secondary is our biggest question and if SU fans know this and know who we have working with them this year, we are not in bad shape at all.

C'mon man. I'm not talking about a dominant team that tore through the conference .... hell, the last one to look like that was Grambling 2005. I'm just speaking on our game last year. There were times when I thought SU should have took that game over and there were times when I thought UAPB should have plowed us. Neither happened which paved the way for that crap we saw at the end.

Dude, starters don't mean nothing to me. Howard used to always say they would beat JSU because they were returning 18 starters compared to about 10 or 11 for JSU. Returning sorry starters does not help your case man.

I wish SU the best because I want to see ya'll across from us in Bham but JSU really has more talent than the rest of you. Comegy is a great recruiter. Pete has never been known as a recruiter. Not even you can dispute that. We are now into year three so now Comegy's HS recruits will be RS So or Jr's. Our coaches got better game by game last year...that is why we ended the season winning 8 of our last 10 and the championship.

You are the one who brought the fact that you had starters returning.

You won 8 of the last 10 because you finally settled on a quarterback. Something you will have to start over again this year and NONE of them have the intangibles that Oliver did, even though I didn't think he was that great.

You act like no one else can gain talent or improve coaching ability. I have the feeling you are gonna get a real lesson this year.

Dayum, JR said the exact same thing last year....:lmao:

Face it, JSU entered the 2006 season with practically nothing...half of starters didn't even know the plays. In 2007, we filled some holes and brought in some new faces to do what our thrown together 2006 team could not do. This year, we have kids who have been in this system for 2-3 years for the first time since Comegy arrived. We have NOTHING but talent and it's gonna show.

I can agree with your assessment, however being at that game I don't agree with SU getting the raw end of the deal as it relates to officiating- ( crap you saw at the end)- but I understand how you might feel differently about that!

I still don't see how you throw a penalty flag for a team celebrating a win they though they had. Seems natural, doesn't it? I understand UAPB getting another chance, but the penalty was ridiculous.

However, it doesn't matter now. We just have to make it where a field goal does nothing in Mumford. Believe me, the boys have not forgotten that one.
