JayRob I thought the NCAA was a governing body for athletics within the collegiate world not the governing body for general university academics. Stop talking about general student body APR because I have not seen where that has been entered as a measuring tool yet by the NCAA.

The SWAC has put out its official statement. It speaks about the "challenges" that we (HBCUs) face, having "limited resources". In light of these challenges that we admit, to even consider additional penalties doesn't make sense.

It's not a measuring tool, but it's part of the equation of the formula that is used to determined the APR.

Why don't you go with reality. If you see a speed limit sign saying "70" do you go with that or say "naw, it's really "80" because that's what folk do???
It's being discussed because there's no real punishment to a SWAC football team. We getting banned from something that we don't play in anyway.

MH, that dont have anything to do with the flys ishting on my neighbor's window ceil. If the NCAA dont view this game as a "post season" game, then why do the imbeciles that run this conference do? Dont we follow the NCAA guidelines and their views as a conference? So, you are saying that it's all right to pick and choose which NCAA guidelines and views we wish to follow?

If the students handled their business in the classroom this wouldn't even be a topic so some of you are mad at the wrong people and have lost focus and are only stating opinions from a bias perspective. Nothing more, nothing less. This is the first time the SWAC Office can finally do something right.

Honestly, bruh, there is more to think about here. If GSU was in this situation, you would see that this goes way beyond two years. JSU and SU probably won't survive this. Why? Because when they ban us, the kids we have now will quit! That will only make APR worse. If the SWAC is interested in us fixing this, banning us won't help. And like it or not...no JSU or SU will spell the END of the SWAC.

The inaugural game was played on December 11, with Southern defeating Jackson State 31–30 before 47,621 fans at Legion Field.[6] The following week, Southern lost to Hampton in the Heritage Bowl; however, the meeting would be the only one for the SWAC champion following the championship game. In January 2000 the NCAA ruled schools cannot compete in two postseason games, effectively ending participation in the Heritage Bowl by the SWAC champion.[7] With the SWAC left unable to compete, the Heritage Bowl folded in February 2000[8]

I'm not saying its alright to do anything. I'm just simply saying that I believe the sentiment exists that regardless of how the NCAA classifies it, the SCG has been viewed as more than just a reg season game to the SWAC.
Fiyah the NCAA updated its bylaws in like 2006 and does not consider the SCG a post season game anymore.

I would say the same thing if it was GSU. Academics first and if you aren't handling business in the classroom there is no way a team should even come close to be allowed to play for a conference championship. Makes the school and the conference look bad when they put sports over academics and by not banning them that's what they are saying. Hell some of you are acting like its a lifetime ban. Sheesh. Banning will show where the priorities are. Nothing more, nothing less.
But doing nothing will?
Just like children if you don't punish them for doing wrong they will never learn and do right

and that bold part in your quote is the problem. We always complain about those imbeciles in Birmingham and how backwards they are. And if they cant read and interpret the NCAA by-laws and guidelines, then this would be another assinine act that they will commit.

How do you know that this has to do with the classroom. JSU could have realistically had 10 guys decide they wanted to go to a different school (like a D2) or go back home becasue they were not getting any PT. Unless you read our APR report, you don't know what the issues were. All the APR report tells you is that we retained AND/OR passed 88% of our students. It's doesn't say that the kids we didn't retain were not academically eligible. And yes, this could be the equivalent of a lifetime ban. IF those kids quit or transfer (again having NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CLASSROOM), we could get banned from the NCAA when the retention numbers drop. Just so you know, JSU has rarely had academic casualties over the last few years.

APR=Academics. I don't care how you try to spin it. All the excuses in the world won't change the current APR score.

It's no trouble when it comes up so easily but you can't find any information about it not being a post season game. If you looked that was information that comes from the 2010 season.

Doing nothing? We are doing something? We are already working with only 50 scholarships and we are facing a NCAA ban. The SWAC has nothing to do with this. The NCAA has handled this. And, whether we would actually qualify or not, JSU is still banned from the playoffs. No one expected AlaState to win more than two games last year. If they go 10-1 and JSU goes 10-1 or 9-2, we could get a playoff bid.
Thing is, the only hope some of you have of beating us is if our kids quit but hey, ya'll try to take a W anyway you can! :smh:
