j-state83, I don't know if the NCAA wants to make an example anymore out of HBCU's. They're already getting flack for possible racism against HBCU's in lieu of the APR system as a whole.

Thats where you wrong.
Ya'll gonna get what you want one day with this "NCAA ain't gonna mess with us because we a HBCU" crap. Some of ya'll honestly think the SWAC has that much clout. The NCAA is still chopping USC's head and got Ohio State by the nutts. Do you honestly think they GAS about fugging one of us up?

The SWAC Office and the Presidents should begin to really stress academics. Didn't have to worry about APR years ago and they can't work like they did years ago. They must readjust their focus, they haven't done so yet and that's why the SWAC is in the situation it is today. Not to sound nonchalant but no one really knew or cared who Texas Southern was. They are not a high profile HBCU so many didn't really pay attention to them even the SWAC Office but i'm sure with the high profile schools of the SWAC being in the spotlight new rules will be implemented concerning APR scores, championships and post season. I can't see how someone says not to ban JSU and SU for football. The SCG is the ultimate prize in the SWAC so why allow JSU or SU to be apart of that since academics is supposed to be first? I don't understand some people's logic.

But JSU's APR rating is one of the highest in the SWAC. That alone should tell you how illogical the APR system and it's penalties are. If they were to go by actual numbers in comparison to other SWAC schools, JSU would still be eligible.

The subject is not about the SWAC in general, it's about the hint of possible racism.
Racism is a powerful tool that the NCAA don't want no parts of. All Jesse/Al or any major political figure for that matter, has to do is bring up the subject.
The NCAA is already a massa/slave system in the first place. Black athletes making most of the money, while getting practically nothing in return.

What does racism has to do with the SWAC doing the right thing and put education or playing in championships, tournaments and play-offs? Some of you will try to twist a brick to make things favor your bias views, but right is right. Some of you allow your school pride to get the best of you. No morals or ethics whatsoever. Damn the NCAA, the SWAC must handle business that the NCAA didn't handle, trust me many are waiting to see whats going to happen.

like I said, ain't nobody gonna be paying attention to that chant. Ya'll can dig up that massa/slave shat all you want. It ain't gonna work and you can bring in Al, Jessie, and anybody else you want. I'll say it again, ya'll honestly believe we got that much "untouchable" clout with the NCAA. Ya'll have fooled yourselves into thinking that. :smh:

One should also consider: This decision sets a precedent for future decisions regarding postseason participation in the sport of football and a postseason bowl game (.i.e. Heritage Bowl).

Not really...not as I see it. The decision being made now is done WITHOUT any concern about post season play because there is none for football. If/when a post season berth is on the line and an NCAA ban is in place due to APR issues, then you have to act accordingly. I don't see how you do something when it's NOT any post season impact dictates how decide IF/WHEN post-season play is at risk.

I am really disappointed as I read this thread. Some of you I had much respect for have challenged my assesment of you. Maybe your heart is so out in front of your mind that things are distorted. I don't think I read many GSU or SU people on the side of "Let them play". There are many JSU people it seems on the side of "Let them play".
This reminds me of some of the idiot Alabama/Auburn people around me. I kind of held us in higher esteem than them.
It is very very simple at this point. Football or Basketball, SCG or Tournament, everyone below the line for what ever the reason has to sit this one out. Come back with better scores, come back with better attitudes just come back better. I really (and I know it may not sound right but) wish we could hang our hat on somethings that we do better than the so called them. Halftime has even gotten boring for us.

You don't seem to understand the APR data, so do some research before you post.

Fact of the matter is that HBCU's give Black athletes second and third chances that other schools won't dare give them.
Why penalize our schools for giving "our own" a second chance? Why penalize our schools for bringing in students who may not be as booksmart as others attending PWC's?

HBCU's have ALWAYS been a haven for the marginal Black athlete, so we are to be penalized for this? Are you saying that we shouldn't allow these students in our schools?

Look at JSU's APR rating. It's higher than six or seven SWAC schools, so why is JSU being penalized and the other six aren't? Do you see how nonsensical such a rule is?
For example, if you made 70 percent on your final exam test at your school and failed, but Johnny made 59 percent on the SAME test, yet passes at his school, how fair and logical is that? You'd be pissed and scratching your head wondering how did that happen. Same principle here. APR is not a fair assessment of a school's athletic program. It's systematically flawed.

JROB the APR is a measument that in my view is not flawed. Maybe I am bafooned here. JSU come up to the standard and hold everyone else to it also.

The system is very flawed once you understand it. If JSU is being banned by having a higher score than most of it's conference colleagues, why aren't the others being banned who have lower APR numbers than JSU? It makes no sense.
If it does, please enlighten me.

Personally, I would be in the boat of banning my alma mater and Jackson State this year, BUT how in the hell does it look that our SWAC Champs, who just got sanctioned themselves, with possibly the LOWEST APR in the conference, would have a shot at our conference championship while two schools ABOVE them do not?

Does that make sense to anyone who is commenting about the SWAC's IMAGE in this discussion?

For that reason ONLY do I think that Southern and Jackson State will be allowed to compete and the conference will put in a set of parameters surround APR and it's championships following this year.

According to the way it is calculated, they are ok. The criteria has been there for a number of years now. SU lost scholarships like TSU is currently losing and we didn't do enough to correct the problems. If TSU is going to be in trouble for it, it will happen when it happens.

We had our issues 3 or 4 years ago and we CONTINUE to have issues.

Thanks for stating the obvious j4life. I knew someone other than me would say. "They are lower than us" this year. COME ON MAN

JSU lost scholarships also so i don't know why Jayrob is trying to throw up smoke screens.

That's NICE and all, but to those who don't know about APR and those who would use that type of thing against the conference, it's not really going to matter now is it?

Very sure its a messy situation involving both parties but if you think you know something else roll with it
From what I heard other coaches not SU was pushing it to be in BR. And I know our Mayor wants it in BR. Another thing, it doesnt have to be @ SU to be in BR.
And thats another thing thats wrong with this conference. Everyone and their moma knows that football will be more SUcessful in Jackson, baseball in BR, but just because of selfishness they would rather it fail in another city. Sad.

It makes no sense at all. That's why I said that those who are taking the "academic integrity" angle needs to rethink that. Basically what the vote would say is, "We will ban JSU and SU for repeated low APRs, while there has been improvement. We will do this for the respect of the NCAA and our academic integrity and thus illustrating our high priorities on academics. However, our defending SWAC champs, who has the lowest APR in APR history, will have the ability to defend their title." If it solely based on academics, then there needs to be a ban for all institutions with an APR below 900.

Man you said it right. I've said many times that baseball at SU, football at JSU and basketball on the MS Gulf Coast but these selfish haters would rather it be in Alaska or some remote area and fail vs the championship games being at the right venue.

Tell em SUjagTillidie.

And with that APR score, Texas Southern will be the defending 2010-2011 SWAC Football Champion!

If I'm throwing up smokescreens, please post the rules the SWAC already has in place when/if a school's APR rating is in question.

The smoke screen you are putting up is:

JSU's APR is higher than some schools so they should be able to play in the SCG.

That's not how it works fella. JSU has APR problems like majority of the SWAC schools but some are just more serious. As you can tell from this thread alone, most in the SWAC wasn't focusing on the APR much until the high profile schools had issues. I guess the SWAC Office didn't think this would happen. Can't cry over spilled milk all you can do is make sure you start from somewhere and have a plan in place for future spills. Nothing more, nothing less.
