Shreveporter in B'ham
This is my second time writing this.
Thursday Night ? SWAC Welcome Reception ? Birmingham Civil Rights Institute ? small crowd ? very nice atmosphere. I met Russell L. Stockard Sr. first SID at SU, first PR and SID for the SWAC, and first Compliance Officer for the SWAC. He was a talker and I heard many interesting stories about SWAC and SU history.
Friday Morning ? 10:30 AM SWAC News Conference - photo ops players and coaches from both schools
11:30 AM ? Awards Luncheon ? Gene Upshaw plane was grounded and he couldn?t make it. Merlin Hanks spoke in his place. However, Hanks was preceded by Isiah ?Butch? Robertson. Butch wasted no time in declaring that SU would be the winner Sat. Butch is also a Jaguar. He closed by saying the game would be won on the field. We were welcomed to B?ham by the Mayor.
Coach Pete stated that Baton Rouge would be the winner Sat, ( however, I think he meant to say Birmingham). There were rumblings in ASU?s area. Highlights of last years SCG was shown. The SU players were enjoying themselves and laughing at the images on the screen. The ASU players were very somber. The fire has been lit ? it should be a L of a game tomorrow.
6:00 PM - Hall of Fame Reception and Dinner ? Great
Entertainment ? Bovanti National Fashion Tout, Howard Hewett
Look I'm getting tired - spring 71 and I have pictures of all events. Hope we will post by Monday. So far I have taken over 500 shots and we are more that 12 hours before kickoff.
I predict that we will exceed the 40,000 mark even with the temps in the 40?s.
