SU sweeps doubleheader

HOUSTON — Starting pitchers Jesse Holiday and Jose De Leon and shortstop DeMario Ellis had all the right numbers for the Southern University baseball team.

The trio set the pace as the Jaguars swept Texas Southern on Saturday at McGregor Park.

Holiday (5-0), a Houston native, gave up only one run on six hits while striking out nine in seven innings as the Jaguars notched a 9-4 victory in the first game of Southwestern Athletic Conference doubleheader.

De Leon (3-0), making just his third collegiate start, then struck out 10 and yielded only five hits and two runs in six innings, setting the pace for a 5-2 win in the second game.

As for Ellis, he tallied eight hits in nine at-bats. The SU shortstop had a triple, a double, three runs batted in and three runs scored in the two games.

You know SU leads the SWAC in damn near every offensive catagories. But Gram can hit. They have a good team. Just kinda short on pitching after their first couple of starters.
