Southern faces Grambling in key SWAC series

They’ve lost three of their last four games. They’ve lost control of their division. And at least for the moment, they’ve lost their iconic coach.

And this is a team that believes it’s on the upswing?

Yes. That’s what the Southern Jaguars would have you believe.

They’re serious.

After almost four months of wild mood swings, the final weekend of Southwestern Athletic Conference play is upon them.

Southern (19-20, 14-6 Western Division) kicks off a three-game series at Grambling (16-26, 10-11) with a doubleheader that begins at noon today, and at the very least, seeding for the upcoming SWAC tournament in Shreveport is at stake.

“Now we go to Grambling and try to get better. It’s a big weekend for us, considering it’s the last SWAC weekend,†assistant coach Fernando Puebla said.

“We just need to get better. Going into the tournament, that’s what it’s all about. No matter what, we have to get better before the tournament starts. If not, our chances are not as good as they should be.â€
