Exactly. I guess the field in Birmingham was 100 times better than everywhere and to me, Trustmark was the better one.

well I can only speak for AAMU basketball players... they were thrilled to play in home of an NBA team.... Ive spoken with a few players... they were very excited....

If it's a poor excuse NOT to play on one's home field, why don't more conferences allow it? Because it would be an obvious advantage to the home team. One doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to realize that.

Well, a lot of the smaller conferences do hold the tourney on college campuses. For example, USM is hosting the C-USA tournament and Winthrop is hosting the Big South tournament.

As a player you do like to compete in a actual baseball stadium.

Dude, the home team isn't in the tourney....It was a poor excuse NOT to use SU's field this year. One doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to realize that.

The complaint was the teams in the western division had already played there. And if you have followed SWAC baseball, you would know the field hasn't been the reason for teams being defeated.

I agree. It would be nice for the conference to hold the tourney in some decent minor league parks....and most of our schools are located near some. But like with Trustmark, there wasn't enough attendance plus paying for grounds crew to keep the tourney there.

Now, instead of playing in an "average" field, the tourney is now at a city park for kids. Good thing about it is the infield won't have to be drug between games.

With the improvements SU's field is above average.

Exactly. That's why this damn conference at the bottom and will stay that way. They don't want to do what's right. And half the time, when we did host we didn't always come always with a trophy. Only time, we did was when we beat Alcorn. Now they switch it up every year to places who are worse then Lee Hines. That's why I hope don't nobody in the East win it. Crybaby azz coaches.

If that is the case then the powers that be are looking at it wrong. Memphis is pretty much in a centered location for most SWAC Schools. The city itself is a SWAC haven of alumni. I'm talking about lots of PB, Valley, Grambling, sprinkle of other schools and the most cockiest noise talking JSU fans outside of TSPN LOL. With the right promotion, they could pull it off by hosting the event in Auto Zone Park in my opinion. If you ever seen the movie "Willie Dynamite," this is where he would say, "You got to have visiooooonnnnnnnnnnn!"

That's not what it's going to look like and I don't know why they are still using that picture. The final design hasn't been announced since they changed the architects.

I think that no conference tournament should be held in a state where there are no conference schools. You're sending conference dollars to a place where none of the schools are located and get no benefits in return.

I think that no conference tournament should be held in a state where there are no conference schools. You're sending conference dollars to a place where none of the schools are located and get no benefits in return.

I guess I should have reworded my post to say the location of Memphis is where a lot of SWAC supporters probably wouldn't mind traveling particularly if there are major events (Memphis in May BBQ for example) going on around the same time.

Fiyah, I understand what you are saying. Yet, I feel sometimes we have to go outside of the box. Still, why not a neutral location? No SWAC schools are in Tennessee, but in Memphis alone, there are so many SWAC alumni making things happen. I haven't attended yet, but over the last few years, a group of SWAC alumni has been getting together and having an annual picnic in the late Summer. Some of the alumni have taken it a step further to raise funds for their school. Now if this can happen out of the blue, why can't the conference build off of this and take it another level? With the right marketing...I see dollars for the city but I can also see dollars and more recognition for our SWAC schools.

We are so behind because there has not been enough creative vision...it's simply been business as usual...

I don't think it's best to hold a conference tournament where there is no footprint for its member institutions. Just because there might be a small group of supporters in a state doesn't mean the league should up and move a championship there.

The Redbirds, MiLB affliate of the Cardinals, do have a great facility.

Memphis would be a horrible location. You are taking the tournament away from the folks who's SUpports on a weekly basis and you would be counting on folks who hadn't gone to a game all year. Jackson or BR would bee the most centralized location. It's 5 schools that's three hours or less to those two cities.
