Blue Bengal Athletics Association to host JSU v. Southern Baseball
The Jackson State University Blue Bengals Athletic Association will host Blue Bengal Day on Saturday, April 28 when the Tigers host the Southern Jaguars in Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball action at Braddy Field. First pitch is set for 1 pm.
Blue Bengal president Bobby Sutton will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the game. The organization will also pass out souvenir JSU baseballs during the game.
Jackson State comes into the game with a SWAC best 29-11 overall record and an 18-3 conference mark. Southern has the best record in the West Division with a 25-14, 14-7 record.
The Southern Jaguars have won 10 straight games and now find themselves in first place in the SWAC West after sweeping Prairie View on the road this weekend.
The Jags were once 4-6 in SWAC play, but have caught the Panthers by percentage points, even though PV still leads SU by a game in the loss column. The importance of the sweep this weekend means that Southern holds the head-to-head tie-breaker with PV as well, winning the season series, 4-2.
The title has already been earned in the SWAC East. Jackson State took two of three at Alcorn State and secured the division title and the top seed in next month's SWAC Tournament.
