The Southwestern Athletic Conference released on Thursday its schedule/scenarios to determine the final two spots in the league's postseason tournament.

Texas Southern can only watch.

The conference will move forward with a pair of critical makeup games that were originally postponed because of bad weather. Out of the three teams — Grambling State and Prairie View A&M are the others — TSU is the only team done with its conference schedule.

Southern may play Monday

The Southern baseball team faces LSU-Eunice today at Lee-Hines Field in a doubleheader that begins at 3 p.m., and admission is free.

As for next week’s schedule, it’s up in the air. The Jaguars might play on the road Monday. Or they might not. They’ll find out Saturday.

Grambling and Prairie View are in contention for the fourth and final Western Division berth for the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament.

Rain wiped out the third game of SU’s weekend series at Grambling on Sunday, and that game could be needed.

First, Grambling visits Prairie View in a makeup game at 1 p.m. Saturday. If the Tigers defeat Prairie View, they will qualify for the tournament, May 20-24 in Baton Rouge.

But if Prairie View beats Grambling on Saturday, Southern and Grambling will have to play at 1 p.m. Monday at Grambling. A GSU win over Southern could then force a three-way tie in the Western Division between Grambling, Prairie View and Texas Southern, with only two of the three teams able to reach the SWAC tournament.

If grambling wins saturday, gsu and tsu are in, pv is out.
If pv wins and su beats gram, texas 2 are in, gram is out.
if pv wins and gram beats su, pv and gram are in, tx su are out...:shame:

Ahh...does SU need this game? You know Cador is famous for playing his rookies in games like this. :lol:

Naw he probably will play his starters, as some are coming back from injuries, and some are in a slump, but Po Ben :lol: will take the mound .

Exactly.... :lol: Besides we can't have both traitors playing in the tournament, if they don't both win they'll probably do like their gov. and take their ball and leave. :lol:

I know what your trying to do here but I want GRAM to beat PV...I want to get in on the first opportunity...Don't want to leave it up to GRAM and SU...
 



It really doesn't matter which two of the three teams get in. JSU and Valley are both likely to give the two teams their first loss any how.:nod:

Texas Southern baseball coach Michael Robertson is tossing allegiances aside this weekend.

He’s openly rooting against former employer Prairie View A&M.

Even more surprising, Robertson finds himself pulling for Southwestern Athletic Conference rival Grambling State.

“I never thought I would be rooting for Grambling State,†he said.

Robertson has no choice if TSU hopes to extend its season beyond this weekend’s final non-conference series against Florida A&M.

A couple of weather postponements in April have delayed finalizing the eight-team field for the SWAC postseason tournament. On Thursday, the league announced makeup dates for the games and, if needed, a dizzying sequence of tiebreaker scenarios for the three teams — TSU, Prairie View A&M and Grambling State — vying for the final two spots in the SWAC tournament.

With no remaining conference games, TSU (10-14 SWAC) could be left at home a year after reaching the NCAA Tournament.

“We can’t control our destiny,†Robertson said. “All we can do is wait and hope for the sun to shine on our program.â€

The Tigers qualify for the SWAC tournament if Grambling State (9-13) beats Prairie View A&M (9-14) on Saturday. If Prairie View wins, TSU would need Grambling State to lose to West division winner Southern on Monday in another makeup game.

A win by Grambling State over Southern would create a three-way tie at 10-14. In that scenario, TSU would be eliminated based on the league’s second tiebreaker: winning percentage against No. 1 seed Southern. Grambling State and Prairie View A&M (.333) would have a better percentage than TSU (.167).

“It’s pretty simple for us – just win,†Prairie View coach Waskyla Cullivan said.

You are right, SU has some players that need some work. Mike T at catcher and B Mac in right. Jesse O could go back to gram and improve on last weeks debacle.

But after that.......

Friday’s doubleheader between Southern and LSU-Eunice was not do-or-die.

Far from it, in fact.

It was a pair of exhibitions, a way for both teams to keep playing baseball. And because it was an exhibition, it was a way for the Jaguars to take a few chances.

Winning, SU coach Roger Cador said, was not as important as taking a look at players who haven’t gotten off the bench much.

Considering the final scores, perhaps that was good news.

The Jaguars won the first game, 9-8, by holding off a late rally by the Bengals — who rank No. 1 in the NJCAA Division II baseball poll.

As for the second game, there was no late-inning rally. LSU-E didn’t need one, having done its damage in the middle innings of a 13-8 victory.

For Southern, it wasn’t as disastrous as the scores might have indicated.

“What we wanted to do, especially in the second game,” Cador said, “was experiment.”

That they did.

Dude that article clearly says No. 1 ranked Division II team. Just like Delta State, but better this season. If you can't add anything productive, don't post. This crap is tiresome.
