PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas ? Southern University baseball coach Roger Cador could tell his team was ready when the Jaguars took infield practice Saturday.

SU took that intensity into the games, with two big first-inning outbursts that carried the Jaguars to a doubleheader sweep and the Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division title 7-5 and 9-3 at Prairie View.

Ignited by James Armstrong?s solo home run, Southern took a 5-0 lead to start the first game. And the Jaguars took a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the second game.

?The kids wanted it today,? Cador said. ?For the first time all year, I saw something. They took the field to take infield like I?d never seen them do. It was their body language, their approach. I knew we had a chance.?

Southern (25-15, 17-6 Western Division) clinched the division title and the division?s top seed in the SWAC tournament, which will start May 14 at Southern?s Lee-Hines Field.

I don't know where that bitter crap comes from. Like the article said, SU just wanted it yesterday, and they came out and took care of business. They hit the ball extremely well yesterday, and came up with several huge double plays to get out of tight spots.

Game 2, it looked like PV might try to rebound, but got the air sucked right out of them at the beginning. For the life of me, I still don't understand how there was a tag play at the plate, and there was no umpire there. That's how SU scored their first run (he may have been safe anyway, but with no umpire there to cover the play, we may never truly know). After that, PV just seemed very flat. We hit the ball well, just right at people. SU hit the ball well, but like that old saying goes, they hit em where they ain't.

Good job and congrats SU. See y'all again in a couple of hours.

Who genuflected in Mumford in '07?:emlaugh: Who genuflected in Memorial in '06?:emlaugh: Dude, you are just too easy. Southern BETTER win the baseball tournament or else!!:lmao::lmao:

Correct me if i'm wrong, but PV won the swac in baseball last season,,,,right ?
And the tournment was in Jackson,Ms,,,,right ?

By know means i'm i trying to smack jSU,but ya boy needs to think sometimes..

btw:SU had to rebuild after Weeks and co. left also, but if we said that, jayrod would say that was an excuse..

Think? Playing ball in Jackson is NOT the same as playing ball in Jackson on your OWN baseball field dude. Southern's playing on their OWN if I'm not mistaken. I think you would agree that that's a tremendous advantage.
