The G-Men needs to sweep UAPB for their lack of hospitality in Pine Bluff, even though we won the series.

Man if you knew what I knew about that school, you would do the same thing.....it's a crying shame and I really hate I went there...

Alcorn will go for their 11th straight win as they play a three game weekend series at Arizona. First pitch Friday is 8 P.M. CT. All games this weekend can be heard on wprl.org.

Good Luck, because you are looking at one those old time power house teams of the Pac-10!

A welcome change to SU routine

Published: May 6, 2011 Comments (0) Wade Boggs was one of the best hitters of the 1980s and ’90s, a consummate pro who finished with a .328 career batting average — but somehow, he never felt comfortable unless he ate chicken before every ballgame.

Joe DiMaggio became an American icon, known from coast to coast for his grace and discipline — but whenever he ran from center field to the Yankees dugout, he had to touch second base along the way.

Long story short: Ballplayers are famously married to their routines. Even the slightest change could throw them into a full-fledged Chicken Little act.

That’s why the cases of Daniel Garcia and Cody Hall are, by baseball standards, a little odd

Southern shortstop DeMario Ellis puts out Jackson State’s Desmond Russell and throws to first base to complete a double play last month.

Published: May 6, 2011 Comments (0) On the rare occasions when he’s not in motion, Southern shortstop DeMario Ellis studies, watches baseball on TV and enjoys a little handiwork with clippers and scissors.

“I’m (majoring) in business management,” he said. “I’d like to run some kind of athletic facility, a place to work with kids in the community. But I also cut hair. So I think that could be a good little side job.”

That seems fitting.

Lately, whether he’s used a set of clippers or a baseball bat, Ellis has been pretty sharp.

This weekend, Ellis and the Jaguars host Texas Southern in the final three-game series of the regular season — a series that means little to Southern in the Southwestern Athletic Conference standings.

TSU (21-24, 8-13 Western Division) is playing for a chance at second place in the Western Division, the Jaguars (25-16, 15-6) have already clinched the pennant.

GRAMBLING — "It's a great day in America at GSU, where everybody is somebody," as retired baseball coach Wilbert Ellis would put it.

The Board of Supervisors of the University of Louisiana System approved the renaming of Grambling State University baseball stadium, naming it "Ralph Waldo Emerson Jones Park and Wilbert Ellis Field."

Grambling President Dr. Frank Pogue requested the approval to take place at the April board meeting.
