Super Bowl XLV Surprises

These are 5 teams that missed the playoffs in 2009 that I believe have a shot at making Super Bowl XLV. (Of course this list is comprised of franchises who are OK, but we would not normally expect them to contend for a Super Bowl birth).

1. Atlanta Falcons
2. Jacksonville Jaguars
3. Miami Dolphins
4. Tennessee Titans
5. San Francisco 49ers

Of those 5 teams, I think Tennessee and Atlanta are the only two teams that, with some major tweaking, can rebound and be playoff bound. I don't know about being a championship contender though.

Tennessee needs a QB in the worst kind of way. I'll never understand how you go 13-3 with a glaring weakness at QB (Kerry Collins and Vince Young) and do nothing to better yourself at that spot. Defensively, they had a bunch of injuries and losing Albert Haynesworth hurt. I think they can rebound defensively. Fisher usually has a top notch defense. But with a stud like Chris Johnson you gotta get a QB to protect him him like the Vikings did Bret Favre to protect Adrian Peterson.

As for Atlanta I think their offense will rebound and be better next season. They are young and have the pieces in place. Defensively, they need to make a big splash and I don't think they can attempt to do that through the NFL draft alone but with a combination of that and free agency. They need an impact defensive lineman, a linebacker, a cornerback and a safety. Not an easy thing to do but if they can manage that I think they will be okay.

Although the teams I listed have needs on both offense and defense, it does not take much to at least put yourself in a position to compete for a Super Bowl. We can look no further than the Colts and Saints.

Obviously both teams have great quarterbacks, solid receivers and solid defensive players. But the Colts ranked 30th in the NFL in rushing. The Saints were ranked No. 25 in total defense. To win the NFL you need great players, a solid scheme and a lot of LUCK.

Oh, I actually did seriously think about placing the Texans on the list. No offense to Blade, who seems to be a passionate Houston fan, but every year the Texas are predicted to have their breakout season and tend to fall short. Houston either starts great and flops at the end or they start bad and turns it on at the end.

Man cut your bullshyt.... The Saints Defense is the reason why they are where they are...

it's dummies like you that don't know football and all you have to guide your dumb arse is stats..... Stats are for those who don't know how and never played the game....

The Saints defense isn't lucky to lead the NFL in turn over ratio... It's obvious it's a lot o elements about he Saints and Colts that you just don't understand....

You up here listing teams that don't have a chance in hell at making the play-offs but because you can't understand football you think they have a legit chance at the SUPERBOWL??:retard:

If you wanna call a SUPERBOWL contender lucky ...look no further than the 2006 Chicago Bears..

The Saints were clearly better than the Bears... but they got lucky and stripped the bowl from us in that cold ass weather all game long..

And you gotta be A LOT of stupid to think of a dumb ass thread like this

This is truly one dumb arse post.

Why are you going off on a tangent about the Bears not being better than the Saints and I'm somehow slapping your favorite team in the by implying luck was a factor in them reaching the Super Bowl? Are you that paranoid?

Of course luck has to be factored in. The perfect team does not exist. All of them--no matter how great--have holes as I pointed out with the Saints and Colts. Teams who play in the Super Bowl have been fortunate to not be hampered by injuries.

There have been times during the regular season where teams have be fortunate to get a call in their favor or a lucky bounce of the ball, or the field goal kicker misses a short try or one of the best running backs in the NFL fumbles the hand off from the QB inside the 10.

The Colts probably would have lost to the Houston Texas earlier this season if Andre Johnson--one of the best WR in the NFL--does not drop a sure TD.

By no means was this intended to be turned into a Saints discussion at all. But don't tell that to a Saints fan. :retard:

Oh, if you actually stopped sniffing the black and gold glitter for a minute, you would realize that there has been a team all most every year in the last 10 years who have made the Super Bowl and it was not expected. You know, like the Rams, Titans, Panthers, the Patriots with Tom Brady the first time, Cardinals, Seahawks and Giants. Oh, and the Saints.

Jeff Fischer tries to win on defense, not offense, so having a great QB is not high on his agenda. All he wants is someone that doesn't turn the ball over. As soon as Tennessee is winning by 1/2 point he is gonna try to sit on it.

Saints missed the playoffs for the past two years, and will be playing in next weeks' game for all the marbles.

Did you really try to quote me...or, was that an accident?

...Sad, but true

I think Miami will be a play-off team. I am not willing to bet on Superbowl yet...

Without some injuries they would have been in the playoffs this year. The Dolphins are definately a team where thier record really didnt reflect thier team. They had a rough schedule and played well against the top teams in the leauge.

Next year they will be alright. The running game is nice, and still was good after Ronnie Brown went down. Henne will be more polished, and hopefully they will beef up thier Defense.
