Baton Rouge Police Department homicide Detectives Elvin Howard and Chris Johnson investigate the scene of a shooting beside A.W. Mumford Stadium at Southern University. The Jaguars played their first home football game of the season Saturday against the Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devils.

For the second time in two years Saturday night, the Southern University campus became the scene of a shooting during a home football game, a shooting the university chancellor described as ?an unfortunate incident.?

Although details were sketchy late Saturday, Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman Capt. Danny Martin said a security guard hired by the university pulled his gun and shot a man in the abdomen while the guard was on duty on Harding Boulevard about 7:30 p.m...........

This is sad sad sad!!!!!! :smh: :smh:

Yes, it is thuggery. The same that leads to violence in ALL of our communities and campuses. Its unfortunate and sickening.

The security guard was not hired by Southern University, he was hired by one of the businesses across the street on Harding Boulevard. They try to regulate parking on game day and during school hours.

Join us in praying for the families of all involved and praying for our coummunities and people.

The Security Guard has been charged in the shooting. Lives have been thrown away over a damn parking space. :smh:

Arrest made in shooting at SU game

A private security officer, hired to watch a parking lot as Southern University played its first home football game Saturday night, was accused of murder after he allegedly shot a man in an argument over a parking space.

Curtis Lilly, 41, 5124 Byron St., was booked into Parish Prison on Sunday on second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon in the shooting death of Freddie Jackson, 59, of Port Allen, authorities said.

Although the nature of the argument is not known, Baton Rouge Police spokesman Capt. Danny Martin said Lilly felt threatened by Jackson after he got out of his vehicle at a private parking lot near the university. The guard then pulled out his pistol and fired one shot into Jackson?s stomach, Martin said.

?The gunshot victim was attempting to park the car there and the security guard told him he could not,? Martin said. ?One thing led to another and the security guard shot him.?

Authorities found Jackson moments later at about 7:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Harding Boulevard ? adjacent to an area where a host of tailgaters was set up, Martin said. He was rushed to LSU Earl K. Long Medical Center but died about 11:30 p.m. after undergoing surgery.

Jackson was unarmed, Martin said.

This crap would not be going down if I was the Mayor/Police Chief/Housing Inspector/Fire Chief of Baton Rouge like I am here in Jackson.

I wish a nizzle would fire off a jammy in my city, I'll take a sledgehammer to his crib!

STFU looking like Mister's daddy from The Color Purple.

If the security guard said he could not park there then why didn't he just roll on?

From what I understand, Jackson was already parked and he was attempting to talk to the guard about letting his fiance park. Mr. Jackson was not armed. No reason for the guard to pull a weapon.

You are right there is no reason to pull a gun. Yet, serious question how bad is it there?

Nowhere as bad as some would perpetuate.

I have the best times on campus tailgating. But, I was taught it's the company you keep...

You all are in my prayers. I pray that God will keep everyone safe from hurt and harm.

I also hope the perpetrators of these incidents will be rightfully punished.

The news stated that he was threatening people who was performing CPR. He asked "does anybody else want some"? That is scary coming from a Security guard.

It sounds as if the security guard was "not well"...something is wrong w/him. Why would he react that way, over something so trivial? Then make the statements that he made, when CPR was being performed? ole boy's elevator ain't going all the way, to the top.

Sad, sad story...I pray peace for the victim's family. :(

He was "high on power".

I am also told that the security guard had his gun drawn on someone else before the incident with Freddy Lee.
I went to school with 3 of his siblings and I know the family very well.

He had just gotten a new truck for tailgating. My dad says he would not miss an SU game no matter where it was being played.

He had parked and then his girlfriend pulled up and he told her to park next to him. The guard said she was too close to the road. She said she would just go park somewhere else and then suddenly, one of the kids in the car said..."Momma, he just shot Freddy".

This is information that I have gotten from some folks who were there, so read/take it as you will.

There were about 40 witnesses. This should not be a long drawn out deal.

Keep them all in your prayers folks.

Have mercy...:smh:

it's something deeper to this story. you mean to tell me...this is how it went down.

Jackson: baby park right
Lilly: she can't
Jackson: yes she can
Lilly: pow
:retard:
If it went down like that...man what is the world coming to.

This is very sad and I feel for the family.

I personally do not argue or discuss anything with Security Guards. Whatever they say I just turn around and leave. It seem like they are braced for an argument, but get upset if you walk away.

I feel the same way. They do that at Grambling as well. Last homecoming we pull up and we had my mom's handicapped placard. The dude at the gate was a Que. Well I showed him the handicapped placard and he flat out said and I qoute and this not a representation of all or even a majority of the Ques, "N(word) you not handicapped." My mother who's a Delta and her friend, both pledged at Delta Iota let the window down and was like what is wrong with you don't talk to people like that.

Lil man was like, oh, oh sorry soror. My mom was quick to tell him, my soror's are women and Deltas. Omegas are not my sorors. Then she went on to tell him that he has no idea of who someone is and to treat people with the most respect possible.
