SU/JSU Marches

Thanks Tapemaster...

Once again...Marches are a direct reflection of your marching band..

I see Liddell is gettin that Murray influence out of the BOOM and putting us back on top of the HBCU world when it comes to marches.

this thread will determine if other musicians should take what you say seriously.. (I already know better)..

Did you even listen to that clip TP?

I just listened to the marches, and did so with my eyes closed, so I can really HEAR..

But I did watch the beginning of the clip long enough to question why Liddell isn't directing? A director should ALWAYS direct a march.
But notwithstanding, I think our march was sloppy. Not very articulate. But better than they've been over the last two years.. But there's certainly room for improvement. Liddell's bands have always played marches well, because he (personally) emphasizes them.

SU's march was crisp. Unless there's some glitches in the clip, the audio seemed to skip forward once or twice. But they were very clean playing it. I liked it alot. You heard woodwinds clearly (which is usually a comment made about the Boom) with just enough Tuba (to keep the tempo).

But yall can keep arguing about 'em.

That's just my $0.03....

Agreed. The video that I have has both bands sounding way better than this clip. Also, the best version of the 5th Quarter is from the Human Jukebox website:

Don't know if it is the angle or what but most of those YouTube clips have both bands sounding not so good.

LOL at SUtrp96. You sneaky mane, I agree with Taylor-Made on this. JSU couldve done better with the march, SU played the shat of that march....

Well, I will differ with you on one thing for sure: who conducts the marching band - the drum major. Notice that is singular. JSU has 4 too many, which is a pet peeve of mine. The Band Director takes the baton only on special occasions like homecoming or a special tribute.

Next, as I have said elsewhere, I don't critique bands until after their homecoming. If you listen to both bands play the 5th, you will understand clearly why I have taken this position. Just for grins ... did the crescendo/decrescendo marking get removed from the current releases of Finale and Sibeleus? Just asking.

Of the march clips I heard good things from both. I was disappointed in the contrast of both bands playing the trio sections. I was REALLY DISAPPOINTED to see the JSU cymbal players sitting in the ailse behind the Sousas where they could not have seen the conductor if they wanted to. While I love the piccolo work of both bands (very nice!) and they are the featured voice of the woodwinds in each march, NEITHER woodwind section shone through. In all, both bands sounded like it was the 3rd game of the season. Overall, I think the Jukes did a better job in their presentation.

lol..you know I had to point em out.. the usualy folk come in here lying ...smdh

But I'm at a stand still that TMade say this is much better than the last two years...WOW!! I haven't heard clips of their marches the last couple of years..

But like I was taught in middle school.. Marches/concert are a direct reflection of your marching band.. So with the way Murray had them playing while he was there.. It's almost scary to think what them marches sounded like...smh

But I agree with TMADE... articulation is horrible... But listen to the marching band and name one song they are articulating on..
