SU Engineering College Gets Graduate Degree Authorization

I received this correspondence from the school today:

"TODAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2001, THE LOUISIANA BOARD OF REGENTS APPROVED THE MASTER OF ENGINEERING PROGRAM, EFFECTIVE SPRING 2002. FURTHER, THE REGENTS APPROVED A CHANGE IN NAME FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING, EFFECTIVE IMEDIATELY."

Please join me in congratulating the college on its accomplishment. The key now is faculty members each finding a research "niche" that they can exploit. Duplicating other research efforts in the state, or in the region for that matter, won't help a whole lot. Research can bring in a substantial amount of funding to the school.

Regards.

Congrats to the school on the bluff -- the undergraduate program is solid. Hopefully, by exploring diverse and novel research topics SU can recruit exceptional faculty and develop and strong grad program.

It's great that Southern will now have a Master's program to complement its stellar undergraduate Engineering program. The only bad part is that more of our neighbors from Tigerland(LSU, not Gram)will start trickling over to take advantage of it.
