St. Augustine High School in New Orleans.

Lol..........Wait so you think that most of the recent graduates from St. Aug are suspect. I want to know how do you know that my classmates and myself are so called suspect? Have you visited St. Aug and sit in classes to find this out or hang out with the students at lunch? If you haven't you can't say any students are suspect because I knew about 4 dudes out of 127 graduates in my 2008 class and they all were on color guard. You really sound like a hater because every school in the city of new orleans has suspect students in there school. If your St. Aug is influencing young men to be gay then your just like them public school dudes who hate on us because we took they girl. Go do a study on Jesuit or Brother Martin you will find a lot of fags there.

Rise Sons of the Gold and Purple!!!

When I say suspect I am not necessarily referring to a person's sexuality. My personal politics sit very far left so a person's sexuality means nothing to me. I could care less. My definition of suspect in the context of this thread is in terms of social interaction due to the way St. Aug conducts it's self.

This is about the 5th or 6th time I've said this and I have yet to get an answer.

Are you just gonna make an empty statement or are you going to pull quotes to prove your point?

I could pull quotes, but you can read as well as I can.
Alpha3 explained the tradition of the school and the type of men that it turned out and gave a host of examples.
Jaguar99 gave you a recent graduate's perspective.
jsupop33 attested to their work ethic.
I am a woman and I stated how I've never had a problem with the graduates I've met, so I guess they can interact with women on a mature level.
Your question was does the school's style stunt the social development, and from the responses you've been given in this thread I would gather that you're running into the minority. You asked would others opt to send their children there and the response was yes. So which question wasn't answered?

This is about the 5th or 6th time I've said this and I have yet to get an answer.

People in this thread have adressed your point over and over. Your point of "do guys from St. Aug have social interactions problems post high school due to the environment of St. Aug, and the answer has been no. I went to school with cats from St. Aug and nothing is wrong with them.

Peace and Practice

Much of what I've read has been very cliche, I wasn't looking for co-signers but much of this seems very cut and paste. I just find it funny that I would run across multiple people with not so great things to say about the school and all of them happen to be people who are not effected by St. Aug, be it they are not from New Orleans or they've already achieved success while being graduates of other schools.

Damn A3.... I just love an articulate, well spoken man. And you went to St. Aug! Their band used to kick us to sleep yearly, lol! Uh.......You married????

Great response CD. As a graduate of St.Aug I will respond to this later when I'm at home and not pissed.

Ever since St.Augustine was founded, it has been the leading school for black males in New Orleans. St.Aug has always had a tradition of high academic standards, strong discipline and pride. Everyone knows that St.Augustine uses the paddle for disciplinary reasons. A student at the Aug will think twice before they disrespect someone, arrive late to school or show up not in the proper uniform. Discipline is the reason why the "Marching 100" is well known around the country. If your nephew doesn't want to be there, his parents should take him out. They are paying tuition and I don't think the Aug is giving scholarships out at this time. When a young black male leaves St.Augustine you better be believe he's ready to be a leader. I'm not going to speak for every purple knight so I'll only give you my perspective. I've been around St.Aug Alums all my life dad(68) uncle (76) another uncle (83), so I knew what the deal was early on. I was paddled a few times for various reasons, but it only helped me to be a better person. I bet I learned how to knot my tie and shine my shoes the correct way. This is why my clothing game is on point now. St.Aug taught us to give 101% while everyone else is giving 100%. Don't get me wrong we have our share of black sheep, but we also have our share of shining stars. All I can say is that if the lil dude doesn't want to be there, take him out now. As far as the women you mentioned, there problem is that they didn't holla at me. We're taught to be leaders in the community and everday life. With that said checkout the following list.

Other notables:
St. Aug led the way in battling segregation in New Orleans. The successful legal challenges led by the school and lawyer A.P. Tureaud resulted in the de-segregation of high school athletics in Louisiana, so that by the end of the 1960s St Augustine teams could play against teams from white schools. The“Marching 100” was the first African-American high school band to march in the REX parade on Mardi Gras Day. The "Marching 100" has also played for the Pope, Super Bowls, and Presidential inaugurations.

Neither from N.O. nor attended St. Aug. Have several friends from St. Aug.
I've read several post from Deuce and I'm still trying to figure out what it is that you are trying to accomplish. You posed the question and it was answered, countering what it is that you heard prior to the beginning of this thread.
You now have a list of pros and cons. If you began this thread, to find out if it would be a smarter decision to remove your relative from St. Aug, I don't think you can get an answer from people on the net. You have a family decision to make and you aren't seeking counsel with your family. Only you and your relatives can know what is best for the future of the young man under your care. St. Aug might be a great place for him or it could be a place that he does not develop socially. I don't think that would totally be the fault of the school considering it's mission is to help offer more opportunities for holistic achievement.
I'm not sure what you are getting at when it comes to the "suspect" comments and the immature relationships that women have told you about, but either you're rip van winkle or you don't have a television, but that's all that's on the idiot box these days. They call it reality TV.
You stated that your ideoligies or to the far left, so it sounds to me that you could be a bit suspect and may have been in a relationship with a suspect grad from St. Aug (Not calling the school a breeding ground for homosexuality, because all schools in this age has at least one) and now you're scorned and want to bash the entire school and it's existence. It's not fair to the graduates and current students who are trying to be successful and are ignoring the pettiness of critics that have and will continue to exist.

Now looking at the St. Aug alumni that know, I myself have noticed that many of them seem to socially lagging in terms of behavior. Entering college with a few of them, they operated as if they were 13 or 14 year olds entering 9th grade as opposed to 17 or 18 year olds entering their Freshman year of college. Loud outbursts, constant ribbing or joking and pretty soon most of them would be gone by mid year. Those that remained were painfully shy.

You said that you were alumni?? and yet you made these ^^^ statements above; thats even worse; that you means you have issues with self-hate and hate your own kind; yeah you need help

Actually I'm an alumni, class of 2001.

Anyways thanks for the responses people, I appreciate it I wasn't expecting co-signers and I respect and am grateful for your honesty, have a blessed day.

Please ignore what I've previously posted and go seek counseling. :(:kaioken::upset::noidea::shame::retard:

Those statements above are 100% true am I supposed to just forget that just because I too came the school. What I did is not self hate, what I did was point out what I saw and what I've heard.

I explained earlier that my definition of suspect in the context of this thread did not exclusively mean homosexuality, but the immaturity and behavior that is not becoming of a grown man. Now attempting to accuse me of being a homosexual you make yourself look stupid, me pointing out that my political ideologies are far left were to show that a person's sexuality means nothing me but only to further prove my point that my definition of suspect did not exclusively fall on a person's sexuality.
In my world I could care less about what a person does in their private time. I'm not scorned, life has been very good to me. I just wanted answers and opinions on recurring comments that I've heard and things I've seen. That's it, the end.

How do you expect anyone to take you seriously. Why you didn't preface that you were a graduate of the school that you are questioning in the first post of this thread? As matter of fact, why didn't you question the school when you were going there or as an alum, speak with the current administration. I have never observed the statements you made about your fellow St. Aug. brethren.
But I guess maybe I am the stupid one for entertaining your foolishness.

Many around New Orleans many are quick to put us in a box. Stereotype us faggots or purple punks or stuck up individuals due to where we went school.

Hearing issues of stunted social development, laziness and then remembering instances of immaturity that I have seen, I was left to wonder, are these things by-products of the environment at St. Aug.

Dude how many times do you hear from white people that black people are lazy, have 8 kids, on welfare and food stamps, stupid, incompetant, troublemakers, only good for sports and other ignorant sterotypes. Im back and forth from MS to LA so i hear it all the time but does it make me think that all black people are like this???? No. Are there some black people like this but there are white, latino, asian people like this as well. like i said your problems start way before St. Aug. Please seek help

I don't have problems, just because somebody questions St. Aug's time honored methods of educating and methods of discipline does not mean that they have problems.

If you can't see that maybe you have problems and not me.

WOW.... so good schools still exist, huh? I could teach at this school!

I could not teach at a public school. I would be in jail.

anyways thanks for the responses people, i appreciate it i wasn't expecting co-signers and i respect and am grateful for your honesty, have a blessed day.

wtf? My brother was there during that time.

I get it now. You were describing yourself when you were asking about St Aug grads being socially inept and not ready for life post high school. You are one of those people and you are looking for someone or something to blame for your being like that. Well it wasn't the school, it you. Also , no one is co-signing anybody. I went to TnSU with plenty of people from St. Aug and all of these cats were cool as fans. It you and the people you know that are f*cked up bruh. I bet all those accounts you get from other people are people's account of you or you probably making that shat up.

Peace and Practice

Wrong again.
I've been out of St. Aug for almost 10 years. I've only began to hear the things I've pointed out in this thread in the last say 2 years or so. Before that, like I said earlier in this thread I chalked up any negative comments attributed to St. Aug to jealously and outright hatred for St. Aug.
It wasn't till I began to hear people break down the situation that I began to guess, maybe corporal punishment, an all male environment and a slight militaristic rule isn't working in 2009 and might not be getting thru to everyone and may be causing adverse effects or maybe it isn't...

This is not a "lets roast St. Aug". This is a more or less should St. Aug attempt to make changes or should St. Aug remain the same.

Much of what I've read has been very cliche, I wasn't looking for co-signers but much of this seems very cut and paste.

This, alone, placed after all your comments and questions...and, the answers and comments that were given to you......lets me know that you weren't going to accept any positive, uplifting answer(s) you were given. Something drove you to this topic...and, the drive drove you right past logic and basic answers, which you now have deemed as cliche ( :retard: ).

I, also, have marched with St. Aug cats in the "S". Heck, it was me and two St.Aug cats in our sub-section...so, us 3 spent alot of time together, in band and out of band. Ain't nothing wrong with St. Aug. Heck, just the opposite. I wish alot more schools and school districts would convert to the way St.Aug is, and has been, doing things.

The nature of the thread was ultimately not to find a positive or negative answer in terms of personal opinion of St. Aug, it was originally to gather opinions of the school's methods.

Cut and Paste and cliche are directed towards the long list of successful St. Aug grads that another member has listed. The same list I have seen countless times before.

I stated in my opening post and in a later post that I am far left and that bulk of this board is probably center to center right and maybe far right due to the fact that many on this board are southerners and due to that fact I wasn't not expecting many people to disagree with St. Aug's methods. In otherwords I new this thread was going to be an up hill climb.

I'm not saying "F*ck St. Aug". I'm just asking if the methods are still working, now after giving this thread a few re-reads it's obvious that people agree atleast the people here that the those time honored methods still work and these incidents are isolated

I know it isn't a secret. I have St. Aug alums in my family and am friends with a few and I myself attended for a short period of time in 1998. Everybody in the city knows of St. Aug's disciplinary actions. I remember being in 8th grade and telling a older white woman about me potentially attending St. Aug and even she made a remark about the corporal punishment.

My point in this thread is not to "expose" anything, my point is to show that maybe just maybe the methods they swear by are NOT working.

Duece,

Sorry brother but you are full of shcit man...

You say you are Alumni of St.Aug and you said this a day ago?

Come on nah brah.. You could at least deleted your post before you told a lie..

I'm just surprised the rest of you guys didn't catch this....lol
