Grambling and Hampton will be one of the better early match-ups. McNeese seems to be ranked a bit high.

I guess voters think we are going to fall off since Bruce is gone. The Hampton game will be a great test and a great way to start a season against a top 15 team. Lets get it poppin.

I like the fact that although our preseason top team isn't ranked as high as I would like, more SWAC teams got noticed this year compare to past years. It is rare that over half the SWAC get votes in this poll. It shows that pollsters believe this will be a good year for our conference.

I peeped that too...

First, I love that Grambling is not ranked high. It plays a part in our motivation. Also, I am happy that other SWAC teams got noticed.

One Question

Do you all think that if the nine game mandate was ended, and more SWAC teams were able to play more 1-AA teams, would our SWAC schools be ranked a bit higher?

I think so. We could add some I-AA matchups and still have room for our classics and Division I-A matchups. But this year, the SWAC has some pretty good non-conference games despite the mandate. Grambling plays Hampton (important game for the SWAC). Valley is going to North Dakota State (important game for the SWAC). Arkansas-Pine Bluff plays Southern Illinois. Texas Southern plays Texas State (well I don't know about this one :emlaugh: ). Southern and Bethune Cookman. And if Tennessee State is any good, JSU and Alabama A&M plays them.

I say 4-3. Grambling will beat Hampton, Southern will beat Bethune Cookman, JSU and Alabama A&M will beat Tennessee State. If North Dakota State was in Itta Bena, I would say Valley has a great shot. But Devils don't like snow  Wins for Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Texas Southern would be a surprise.

^ I think Valley have a shot. TXSU will really be a shocker. It can happen. Now as far as UAPB, he!! Mickey Dean will have his way with the Salukis!

I hope the guys go up there and light the scoreboard up, but most of all that noone gets hurt.

Good opportunity for Valley... strap em on, lace em up and play to win. You have the conference pre-season Off & Def POTY, a first team WR, and several other all-conference selections.

Good Luck to all

There seems to be great non-conference Match-ups throughout the SWAC this year....

NDSU plays in the Fargodome but Valley is there on their homecoming.

Those past wins or losses mean nothing this year... Each season's team has to make it's own mark, win it's games.

JSU accepts full responsibility for these SWAC numbers. We used to rarely lose an out of conference contest. With us moving back into the think of things, we will bring respect back to the SWAC as only JSU can do.

Yeah, it helps to play MoBrown and Savannah State instead of NWState and Hampton.
A simple "thank you A&M for keeping us from going win-less for the 1st time in history" would be suffice TP. lol I guess JSU is doing it's part, huh? Paul Quinn is who you're playing THIS YEAR, right? And Mo Brown and Savannah State? We didn't play them last year... I see you're already trying to black out the Bell years. :emlaugh:

No, you did not play them last year but your only out of conference wins have been a few against TNState and teams like Tuskegee, Allen, Savannah, MoBrown, etc...

You ran from Jacksonville State..and we shall never forget it. Yes, we are playing Paul Quinn. It's a transitional year. You are playing Stillman, what's your excuse?

It's a homecoming for us. No matter who we bring in we will average 15,000 attendance. With bringing in Stillman, they will bring all their fans, and we don't have to pay them much to much. It is a business move.
